A MACON URBAN LEGEND
Here's a local urban legend....the story of a newly departed cow. It happened right here.
Don't confuse this piece as an example of raw fiction. There is nothing raw about it.
We ran this piece previously, twice.....but in light of the election before us, it seems like a good idea to revisit municipal bureaucracy once again.
THERE’S A DEAD COW ON OUR LAWN
It had probably been there most of the night. At least that was the consensus later as the little family tried to piece together the events of that very unusual day.
For Robby it began like most in the midst of a typical, sweltering, sticky Macon summer, a time when he and his brother had no school and enjoyed a leisurely swirl of family oriented activities sandwiched between two long summer camping treks that took them that year wide-eyed from the hinterlands of Mexico all the way up to the rugged shoreline of Maritime Canada. At sixteen Brother Wade was old enough to relieve the parental unit of some of the driving: when the roads were clear and the Old Man was in a good mood and his trust level in his teen was a just little higher than was his norm. For Robby life was a picnic, a smorgasbord actually, a vast groaning table of delights and new experience which meant that every day held in its breast the come-hither promise of uncommon adventure.
“Robby,” said his father as the last of the first pot of the day’s coffee filtered, “Please run outside and find the paper. I think the delivery boy might have parked it in the bushes, again, or maybe under the porch. Look there, too.”
