FLEETING EXPLETIVES
and your
KID
and your
KID
The Second Circuit Court, in a decision two days ago aimed at a vague and poorly constructed FCC ruling about indecent speech over the airwaves, struck down the agency’s blanket ruling against potty mouthing on television and radio.
The ruling in particular struck down the FCC’s stated aversion to what is called ‘fleeting expletives’, the occasional outburst of a word or phrase that would have landed any kid of my generation in Pop’s woodshed.
Today’s youngster has a perfect out when he blurts out a ‘fuck you’ or refers to Mom or Dad as ‘ass face’. All he has to do is remind the irate and probably ineffectual parent that since the Second Circuit justices have decided that an occasional such outburst is perfectly OK in a particular context, then he (Junior) is therefore allowed the same right even if it angers mommy or daddy.
“Danny, did you just now call your mother ‘ass face?’
“Yes, Dad, I did. We were having an argument and it was appropriate in the context of the moment. Why do you ask, ‘shithead?’
Family life in America may never be the same.

A TALE OF TWO
HEADLINES?
HEADLINES?
The following two headlines appeared almost side by side in the online version of the Macon Telegraph this morning:
Macon man sentenced to life for 2009 killing
The obvious question must be asked: A life sentence for killing somebody else, but only twelve years for rubbing out one's wife.
Doesn't see fair, does it?
