Mike Adams Claims
ATHEISTS DON’T UNDERSTAND SATIRE
ATHEISTS DON’T UNDERSTAND SATIRE
”But, in this case, such reasoning has no real applicability. Most of the people reading the column understood it except for a few dozen atheists. Besides, it is silly to chastise a person for an “intention to marginalize and harass” when they have no intention to marginalize and harass. Where satire is present, real intention is generally absent. Personally, I think we should eliminate intellectual poverty by eating the babies of those who miss that very crucial point.”
A few weeks ago our favorite academic columnist penned a piece of satire called “An Immodest Proposal”, a takeoff on the title of a satirical work by the Irish-British author Jonathan Swift* (11/30/1667 to 10/19/1745). Swift wrote a piece called “A MODEST PROPOSAL’ in which he claimed the Irish ate their own babies.
REMEMBER THIS IS SATIRE SO DON’T GET YOUR POLITICALLY CORRECT PANTIES IN A BUNCH!!!!
Following the publication of his essay, Professor Adams was inundated (or so he claims) with emails from ignorant atheists, atheists who do not understand the nature of Satire. Writes he, “Although they think they are tolerant, these atheists constantly offer me unsolicited moral advice. Although they think they are relevant, they constantly write to me with remarks not addressing the issues raised in the columns they hate but can’t stop reading.”
Were I to say anymore, I would most likely give away too much of the meat of this modest column. So I won’t.
You can read it for yourself at: http://townhall.com/columnists/MikeAdams/2010/07/12/my_apology_to_the_damned It’s called “My Apology To The Damned”.
Not bad; but he’s done better.
*For the undereducated, Swift also wrote, among many other things, GULLIVER’S TRAVELS
