RACE and the SPLOST

”I have a great deal of affection for NewTown Macon and its board. But there is more that must be said and they aren’t going to like it. The people at NewTown Macon are good, decent people. But in their zeal to sell their precious SPLOST to the black community, they have screwed up.”

So saith Erick Erickson, Macon City Councilor and internationally known pundit. NewTown Macon, it appears, in its hiring of State Representative David Lucas to ‘sell’ the SPLOST to Bibb’s Black community is playing a divisive ‘race card’. Mr. Lucas is clearly going overboard in selling the extra penny tax to the lower economic-sociological bloc of African American voters.

“Only a fool hires David Lucas and thinks race baiting won’t happen. I was not at all surprised to get calls last week that NewTown Macon’s “voter education” consultant has been going into the black community telling citizens they need to support the black county commission chairman against the white mayor. Could NewTown Macon please explain how that’s helpful?,” writes Mr. Erickson. And so it begins.
