WEEKEND HIATUS
Taking a few (couple?) days off this weekend to give full attention to my editing duties for our gun club’s monthly newsletter. Should be back online Monday, July 5th. Or Tuesday.
There is much to say in the coming days, not the least of which is a primary election coming up on July 20th, here in The Peach State. I am endorsing several candidates and positions. The only item of immediate import is that my fellow residents of Bibb County get out and vote saying NO TO THE SPLOST. Lots more later, of course. Time to get angry at scurvy, local politicians who are out of touch with the people. Something bad seems to happen in the psyches of most folks when they get elected to office. One answer is TERM LIMITS, but what selfish, egotistic pol is going to give up his free ride for a simple idea that will help our city, our county, our state, and our nation?
It is the weekend of the Fourth of July. Here are some patriotic links:
1. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE: (A radical document that make many a modern politician uneasy): http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/freedom/doi/text.html
2. A FULL-BODIED VERSION OF THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER: Not the wimpy, warbling disaster sung by pop singers. Especially those so-called ‘divas’ who can’t carry a tune, but a robust, patriotic rendering: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZjR8L81yQk
3. When I was a small child living in Jamestown, New York, World War 2 was raging and its outcome was in doubt back then. We children would go outside to play war each and every day, returning home in the late afternoon. Our mother would turn on the radio and the genteel home was filled with the sounds of a daily program hosted by Kate Smith who introduced it with GOD BLESS AMERICA. You can’t sign off without listening to this magnificent rendition now. On 9/11, as the World Trade Center came crashing down in hatred of America by s gaggle of radical Muslims, I requested that Kenny Bergamy put this version on the air. He did so. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCavKL2zdjM
Remember, the Fourth of July symbolizes much more than cook-outs, beaching, ball games, and getting drunk.
This is THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE and I am Don Brunel
