Crime And The Perception Thereof
STATS IN MACONGA HEADING NORTH
STATS IN MACONGA HEADING NORTH
”The number of residential burglaries in Macon is up so far in 2010 compared to last year.
At the beginning of August, 1,037 residential burglaries had been reported in Macon, 215 more so far this year than during the same period in 2009, according to Macon police statistics.
Businesses have fallen victim to 215 burglaries, 53 above 2009’s comparable year-to-date numbers.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office statistics show 75 residential burglaries and 151 commercial burglaries were reported between January and July of this year. In 2009, 473 residential burglaries and 169 commercial burglaries were reported.”
The basic statistics as reported by Amy Leigh Womack in this Morning’s MACON T’GRAPH are grim. Not as grim, perhaps, as they were a few years ago, but certainly considerably higher than last year. Read the article here: http://www.macon.com/2010/08/23/1237448/residential-burglaries-up-in-macon.html “RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES UP IN MACON”.
Our not so bright but over active cadre of rip-off artists, both adults and juveniles, are waging a war they think they can win….since most of them pick up a get our of jail free card upon entering the LEC (or YDC), since space on the inside must be reserved for more violent criminals, not the little bastards who merely run off with our flat screens and X-Boxes.
The pressure is on to expand the county’s penal accommodations. We expanded the LEC a very few years ago. We will most likely build more jails, lock up in the fullness of time more of our squandered citizens, all in the name of security. Neighborhood watches are, in many places, doing a damn good job of taking care of their neighborhoods.
But neighborhood watches aren’t everywhere…..and the police and sheriff’s deputies cannot be in all places at all times.
It’s cruel, perhaps, to say it, but a couple of thieves shot to death by residents whose homes are being burglarized might help. These slime balls think they are immortal. “I can beat the system,” one young man told me recently.
Beat the system? Right!!! An addict will do anything to get his next hit of crack or meth.
For the time being, be vigilant, watchful, and do get involved. I have two calls from local citizens already today. Took a third call to the MPD to get a minor matter resolved. These are observant folks.
We need more observant folks, good citizens who truly dive a damn about their neighborhoods.

PERRY BUCKARAMA
A Bit Of A Disappointment
A Bit Of A Disappointment
I thought it was my fault at first,
The Perry Buckarama yesterday was busy, thronged, but uninspiring.
After an hour or so of checking out vendors and talking shop with politicians, I was ready to leave.
What surprised me was that so were my three companions, ready to leave, that is. We had had just enough.
More and more are these shows less and less about hunting, or even the outdoor sports. I see too many vendors selling jewelry, foodstuffs, t-shirts….things that, while fine, seem out of place in an event devoted, in theory, to deer hunting.
I hunted once upon a time and dutifully taught my sons to seek out the wiley dove, quail, and deer.
Not anymore. Quite frankly, I simply have no desire to kill anything that flies or walks on four legs. It may be a matter of age, but I prefer to walk around a rattlesnake in the field than harm it. I draw the line at certain nasty little critters like fleas infesting my feline companions, mosquitoes, and houseflies. Bedbugs, too, probably, although the infestation embarrassing the Big Apple hasn’t come to this part of old Dixie.
It may sound a bit odd, but where I have no desire to kill an animal, I would pull the trigger in a heartbeat on some low-life robbing me or attempting to harm a loved one. Animals are instinctive; humans have the capacity to think and make choices. Robbing somebody whose shotgun loaded with double ought buck shot sits propped handily next to his bed is one lousy choice.
So be it. I will spend the rest of today getting ready for some primo events, namely: the Friends of the NRA Banquet (September 9th.) and our rifle club’s Sight In Day (September 11th.).
Busy times.

Ground Zero Mosque:
CONFUSING THE ISSUE
CONFUSING THE ISSUE
”Which brings us to the ground zero mosque. There can be no doubt that any mosque organized and run by Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf will be based on Sharia law and will serve as local branch office of the pan-Islamic terrorist offensive against the west. That such a facility should be located right next to the place where jihad achieved its most hideous triumph is unspeakably inappropriate.”
Sweet and to the point, this little piece by Dick Morris gets to the heart of the proposed ground zero mosque in New York City.
The confusion in the President’s and other statements is that this is not a matter of ‘religious freedom’, but a darker raison-d’etre, the advancement of radical Muslim Sharia Law at the expense of civil, constitutional law as it is practiced in the West.
I found the column in this morning’s TOWNHALL newsletter, it is called “GROUND ZERO MOSQUE: THE REAL ISSUE. It can be accessed directly at: http://townhall.com/columnists/DickMorrisandEileenMcGann/2010/08/21/ground_zero_mosque_the_real_issue
Good way to get your weekend off on the right foot.

In a piece about taxation, found today in the Macon T'GRAPH, a chap calling himself 'Perry CPA, wrote:
"When Reagan cut taxes, revenues to the treasury doubled. The problem with Democrats is that they believe that there is only so much pie to go around. Republicans just bake a bigger pie".

Tortured Bovine Hits Back At His Tormenters
and loses his life in the process
Here is the video of the poor bull that jumped out of the arena and attacked the Iberian spectators.
My sympathies are with the bovine. You can listen to his agonized screams as the mob of bloodthirsty Spaniards attempt to crush the life out of him.
CAUTION DO NOT VIEW IF YOU ARE SYMPATHETIC TO ANIMALS.

”DON’T CAMPAIGN WITH ME, MR. PRESIDENT, PULLEEEZE….
This clip from the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS online edition contains a link to a very funny, though not terribly well executed, campaign video showing Democrats deserting their president at campaign time.
Remember that Airline Flight Attendant who deserted the ship on the tarmac?
The original can be found somewhere in Youtube land.

…..MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER
It is important that your humble b’logger insert a personal note here. My inbox has been inundated with ‘where the hell are you’ posts.
Well, I haven’t been here….on the Gospel According To Luke….since Sunday.
Seems that the rains that hit Macon…3.5” according to my personal rain gauge….caused wide-spread flooding all over town, including the sub-cellar of the county courthouse where the process marriage and firearms licenses, and my living room to boot.
The flood kept me up all Sunday night. With a borrowed ladder Monday, I climbed up onto the roof and painfully cleaned gutters clogged by the boys who had re-shingled a segment of the roof a month or so previously. Messy job? I’ll say. Been stiff and sore for two days.
Things settling down. Almost have the living quarters high, dry, and put together. Sid save all the t-shirts, hats, and assorted goodies sent in by the NRA to celebrate our gun club’s SIGHT-IN DAY (September 11th.).
Maybe get something of important up by tonight or tomorrow.
Ciao.

Letter To The Editor found today in Macon's DAILY BLATT and BUGLE (in its entirety":
"What this country needs is more Baptist churches in Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia."
I guess the reasoning behind this is that our Muslim 'cousins' will find out how much kinship they share with ultra conservative Christians.

SEVENTEEN
and
DOWN AND OUT
update two
and
DOWN AND OUT
update two
The story about the local seventeen-year-old who was locked up for felony robbery, continues to resonate among my readers. Several have requested another update.
The kid spent roughly two months, not in the Youth Detention Center, but but confined within the Big Boy, adult Law Enforcement Center along with rapists, murderers, and other assorted dregs of society, all presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The kid is out on bail and finds himself now in a long-term Christian AA treatment facility about forty miles from town. He will therein reside for a minimum of six months, more probably, a year.
He called me last Saturday and seems reasonably chipper. Certainly better of than when he lived in max security. He needs a long time away from dope and booze and may now be able to get it. He asked me to bring him a pack of cigarettes when I come to visit, which may be a couple of months from now owing to my own crazy schedule.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a truly wonderful philosophy cum organization. It has saved many a life, my own included. AA is not perfect, of course, nothing is. The thought behind the practice is usually better than the folks who form the membership. People are people; we all have flaws. But this original twelve-step program is the best thing I know to get the poor, suffering alcoholic off the sauce and into a larger society beyond his bottle and a shrinking circle of so-called ‘friends’.
I remember vividly walking across Boston Common very early one summer morning thirty-five years ago. It was a day as beautiful and dripping with promise as any I had ever seen. I passed a group of twelve or so men, dressed shabbily, generally unwashed. Winos; probably spent the night sleeping on the greensward of that magnificent park. They were crowding around, jostling one of their number who was holding aloft a nearly full bottle of cheap muscatel wine. They wanted a piece of the poor devil’s action.
Just as I passed one gentleman slurred, “We’re all friends here.” Friends share with one another, do they not? Twenty yards along I heard a horrific scream. Turning I saw the ‘friends’ scattering, the largest of them clutching the bottle, its original owner writhing on the ground, gut stabbed and dying.
He did die before paramedics could reach him. The ‘friends’ were long gone before I gave a statement to a lone police officer and hurried off to open my restaurant. We set a record for lunch sales that day for some reason.
I do expect a call from my young neighbor sometime this afternoon. His privileges allow him one call a week and a pot luck lunch/visitation for a few hours on Sunday: better than the close confinement of the LEC, but with enough supervision to keep the boy on the straight and narrow.
Hopefully.
More update? Let me know.

A BRIT’S EYE VIEW
of the
SINKING OBAMA ADMINISTRATION
of the
SINKING OBAMA ADMINISTRATION
”There is a distinctly Titanic-like feel to the Obama presidency and it’s not hard to see why. The most left-wing president in modern American history has tried to force a highly interventionist, government-driven agenda that runs counter to the principles of free enterprise, individual freedom, and limited government that have made the United States the greatest power in the world, and the freest nation on earth.”
While the White House is busy re-arranging the deck chairs on their very own Titanic, we are here treated to an excellent piece from across the pond by Nile Gardiner.
It is titled “The stunning decline of Barack Obama: 10 key reasons why the Obama presidency is in meltdown” and can be accessed directly at: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/nilegardiner/100050412/the-stunning-decline-of-barack-obama-10-key-reasons-why-the-obama-presidency-is-in-meltdown
Mr. Gardiner takes a fairly lengthy and incisive look at what has happened to O’s administration in recent months before he lists his ‘top ten’. That preface is important to understanding the primary thrust of the column.
It might be interesting to readers of this b’log that the first reason listed is one we have harped on recently: “1. The Obama presidency is out of touch with the American people”.
Please read this excellent piece. It will help, I think, put the confusion that marks our nation’s current mood into perspective.
WE ARE CURRENTLY LEADERLESS.
