GRASSROOTS NEWS MINUTE VIDEO
from the
NRA

The NRA sends these important video's out every month or so. Even if you are angry with that organization, as are many right now, for its apparent role in the Disclose Act, the short piece is well worth viewing.

FELONS VOTING?
What’s Going On Here?

I had just entered my apartment at about 8:45 or so this morning after proping tomato plants laid low by yesterday’s East Macon storm, when I heard a chap calling in to MIX IN THE MORNING with Kenny Bergamy and Charles Richardson complaining that he had been denied a firearms carry permit because he was once convicted of a felony and had served time. He went on to say that he had applied to vote and was allowed to do so, voting, as a matter of fact, in the last election.

It is my understanding that if one is convicted of felony-level criminality, he loses his civil liberties including the right to vote and carry a firearm. This is not entirely true. I called Ex DA Howard Simms, who just this week resigned his position to run for a superior court judgeship, a few moments ago to get the skinny on this matter.

It seems that the courts almost automatically restore ALL CIVIL LIBERTIES, except the right to own and bear arms, to convicted felons who have served several years of jail time. This is a little know fact of judicial procedure here at the outset of the twenty-first century. But it is done regularly.

The idea, I suppose, is to help these guys and gals who have once or several times violated the law, integrate more easily into the society outside the cell block and exercise yard.

I do not know, nor did I ask, if this restoration of rights is accomplished on an individual basis or is a simple fact of life upon release from the slammer.

I do know that the idea is dead wrong if it is carried out en masse and granted easily without careful review of the ex-con’s record.

Sure, it makes the matter of restoration of civil rights easier, much easier, for the courts to manage. But it does remove some of the teeth from a law designed to punish criminality, such punishment being a deterrent to the kind of anti social behavior that lands these clowns in the hoosegow to begin with.

THOMAS SOWELL ON GUN CONTROL LAWS
Beyod The Second Amendment

”Those who have no confidence in ordinary Americans may expect a bloodbath, as the benighted masses start shooting each other, now that they can no longer be denied guns by their betters. People who think we shouldn't be allowed to make our own medical decisions, or decisions about which schools our children attend, certainly are not likely to be happy with the idea that we can make our own decisions about how to defend ourselves”.

This morning’s main read from the TownHall Newsletter is a short column by Thomas Sowell on yesterday’s Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago guaranteeing the right of firearm ownership as a ‘fundamental’ American right.

Mr. Sowell goes beyond the Second Amendment and argues the inherent logic of gun ownership as a simple expedient in keeping down the crime rate. The media does not get this irrefutable message that GUNS SAVE LIVE nor do many of those who apply the laws in our courts.

This is a fine little column and should be read carefully by all who think the fight for firearms’ rights is over.

The piece can be accessed directly at: http://townhall.com/columnists/ThomasSowell/2010/06/29/gun_control_laws It’s called GUN CONTROL LAWS.

Well done.

TODAY THE SUPREME COURT TOOK A MAJOR STEP FORWARD IN PROTECTING OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) handed down its landmark decision about some fundamentals of gun ownership in its McDONALD v. Chicago ruling that came out today.

Here is what GEORGIA CARRY DOT ORG. The statement includes a link to the lengthy arguments the decision was based on:

”Today the long awaited Supreme Court Decision in McDonald vs. Chicago was handed down in favor of McDonald. The ruling held that the second amendment of the US Constitution did apply to the states. Here This decision is very long, but is well worth the read. You will learn how many of the Supreme Court Justices feel about your rights by spending the time to read the decision.
The decision did not strike down the Chicago gun ban, but set the stage for it to be dismantled. Chicago is expected to continue to fight with as many restrictions as possible as did Washington, D.C. after the Heller decision. Here is the link to the entire SCOTUS statement: http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/09pdf/08-1521.pdf

And the streets shall not run red with blood any more than they did when the Heller Decision struck down the law in Washington D.C.

”JIHAD DENIAL SYNDROME”
See no jihad. Hear no jihad. Speak no jihad!!!

According to a report in Congressional Quarterly, he "...defended the Obama administration's decision to avoid using terms such as `jihadist' or `Islamist' to describe the enemy in the war on terrorism, saying such descriptions legitimize the rhetoric of criminals and extremists while denigrating true Islam."

This echoed what Obama counterterrorism adviser John O. Brennan said in a recent speech: "Nor do we describe our enemy as jihadists or Islamists."

There can be no doubt: The Obama administration has made it official policy to silence any reference to "jihad," "radical Islam" or any related term by officials in its justice, defense, intelligence and counterterrorism branches.

This goes beyond political correctness. This is Jihad Denial Syndrome, an obsessive denial of reality that will encourage more terrorism and put America at greater risk.

The Obama administration is in total denial of the obvious fact that extreme islamists want to destroy American in particular and Western Civilization in general.

In an email from ACT FOR AMERICA this morning I was made aware of an article written by Guy Rogers, Executive Director of that organization which first appeared in THE HILL some days ago.

Mr. Rogers spells out chapter and verse how the current administration is refusing to call a Jihadist spade a spade lest we offend our enemies who wish nothing more or less than to wipe us off the face of the planet.

The following is a direct link to a hard-hiting article written with fairness and not in the heat of irresponsible passion: http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/homeland-security/105243-jihad-denial-syndrome

Well done, Mr. Rogers.

For Every Disorder There Is An Equal And Opposite Psychological ‘Treatment’
Mike Adams Strikes Again

”Today, the effort seems to have spread into the realm of nearly every conceivable form of behavior. It is worth noting that the number of disorders legitimated within the medical profession is directly correlated with the number of defenses legitimated by our legal system.”

Even though he probably attaches a Christian raison-d’etre to the eternal question of the origin of ‘good’ and ‘evil’ inbred in the hearts of man, Mike Adams’ latest TOWN HALL column is a gem.

He complains here that modern sociological-psychiatric thinking seems to attach some kind of treatable ‘disorder’ to every imaginable kind of criminality, sociopathic horror, and just plain lousy bad-acting by our fellow humans. “We can fix that!!!” “There is a treatment center in Tucson”.

Feathers of horse, of course. There is evil, real evil abroad in the world and has been since Ug and Uga, that captivating caveman couple, first stole aged Mastadon meat from their neighbors…
Long before Cain and Abel had their little set-to in the region of the Fertile Crescent. Evil, like good, is an intricate part of the human psyche and ALWAYS WILL BE. No twenty-eight day treatment program is going to alter that truth.

I think you will like this piece. It’s called “ODD* HUMANITARIANISM” and can be found at: http://townhall.com/columnists/MikeAdams/2010/06/28/odd_humanitarianism

*You must read the article to find out what Mike means by O D D.

NOW WE KNOW WHY RORY REID DOESN’T WANT FOLKS TO KNOW WHO HIS FATHER IS

”Republican Brian Sandoval continues to hold a lead of more than 20 points over Democrat Rory Reid in Nevada’s race for governor.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state shows Sandoval with 55% support, while Reid earns 33% of the vote. Eight percent (8%) favor some other candidate in the race, and four percent (4%) are undecided.”

A brief article appearing in THE RASMUSSEN REPORT indicates that L’il Rory is trailing his GOP opponent by more points than daddy Dirty Harry is trailing his.

You can read it here: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2010/election_2010_governor_elections/nevada/election_2010_nevada_governor

Then tell all your friends in Nevada that the Reids, pere et fils, are on their way out….we hope.

HERMAN CAIN
on
THE DISCLOSE ACT

Hello Intelligent Thinkers,

As I warned in the recent CAIN ALERT entitled "Freedom of Speech is Under Attack", the House voted on and passed their version of a controversial bill (HR5175) that would ban certain government contractors, corporations, and nonprofit organizations from engaging in any political speech. The vote of 219 - 206, opened the door for a full Senate vote which democrats intend to muscle through by July 4th.

The real purpose of the "DISCLOSE" Act (which is an acronym for Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections) is to impose restrictions on speech by corporations, nonprofit groups and others who express themselves through political campaign advertising.

Of course UNIONS would be exempt from most of the provisions of the bill since unions support Democrats almost exclusively. Read more here...

Please call your US Senators and urge them to VOTE NO to their version of DISCLOSE ACT (bill # not yet assigned). We can't let this legislation slip through our fingers again! It is just another way for government to deny Americans their freedom of speech.

WHO THE HELL
is
RORY???

Rory is running for governor.

Rory is running for Governor of Nevada.

Rory doesn't want us to find out what his last name is, judging from this cute little campaign ad:

http://www.breitbart.tv/harry-reids-son-drops-last-name-in-campaign-ad:

In case you know it, Rory's last name is Reid.

In case you don't know it, Rory's last name is still Reid.

He is the son of none other than Senate majority leader "Dirty Harry Reid".

Were I Rory, I wouldn't acknowledge that connection either.

John Stossel
on
MORE GUNS, NOT LESS

”As usual, the Times editors seem unaware of how silly their argument is. To them, the choice is between "carefully controlling guns" and "arming everyone to the teeth." But no one favors "arming everyone to the teeth" (whatever that means). Instead, gun advocates favor freedom, choice and self-responsibility. If someone wishes to be prepared to defend himself, he should be free to do so. No one has the right to deprive others of the means of effective self-defense, like a handgun.”

I wear a button, supplied by Georgiacarry.org that proclaims out loud GUNS SAVE LIVES. I also carry a handgun wherever I go that it is legal to do so. The practice has saved my personal bacon more than once. (And I have never had to fire a single shot at a single soul).

GUNS SAVE LIVES is the title of a first rate column by a first-rate journalist, John Stossel, which appeared this morning in TOWNHALL’s daily newsletter.

Mr. Stossel makes the case for more, not less, LEGAL carrying of firearms by citizens who have earned the right to do so. Eliminate guns altogether, and the criminal element, those scumbags who have no fear of running afoul of strict gun laws, will rule the night (and the day). We have, or should have, the right to protect ourselves, our loved ones, our property, our fellow human beings.

You can access Mr. Stossel’s piece directly here: http://townhall.com/columnists/JohnStossel/2010/06/23/guns_save_lives

It is strongly recommended that you do so.

IS THE UNITED STATES ON A PATHWAY TO TYRANNY BY GOVERNMENT?

”In our times, American democracy is being dismantled, piece by piece, before our very eyes by the current administration in Washington, and few people seem to be concerned about it.

The president's poll numbers are going down because increasing numbers of people disagree with particular policies of his, but the damage being done to the fundamental structure of this nation goes far beyond particular counterproductive policies.”

Thomas Sowell, one of our leading Black, conservative columnists, a man who like many of us reveres the United States Constitution, has written a hard-hitting column entitled “IS THE U.S. NOW ON SLIPPERY SLOPE TO TYRANNY?” It can be read online here: http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/537967/201006211813/Is-US-Now-On-Slippery-Slope-To-Tyranny-.aspx (I found it linked to DRUDGE this afternoon).

Using illustrations drawn from from the rise of the Nazi movement in Germany, and a botched, illogical piece of legislation proposed by FDR, Mr. Sowell asks the telling question has Obama and his henchmen put the United States on the road to tyranny by a government masquerading as benign?

Powerful stuff. Many of us are asking the same question. HOW LONG THE LIBERTY???

GEEZER GUNS

In an age where over- hyped, large capacity on one hand, or dainty little anemic semi-automatic pistols fill the holsters of most who carry (legally) hand guns, there is still a place where the six-shot, ‘Dirty Harry’ kind of big bore revolver holds sway.

That’s the subject of this short article by gifted gun writer great Mossad Ayoob appearing this morning in LEW ROCKWELL dot COM. It is called “SENIOR CITIZENS CLINGIN’ SIXGUNS” and can be found at: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig10/ayoob25.1.html .

The article is a delightful piece of nostalgia, yet it holds a genuine place for hand gun enthusiasts in that it shows quite another side of the diverse panorama of weapons available to today’s enthusiast.

Ayoob discusses several ‘old timers’, all younger than myself, who favor carrying 45’s or 44. Magna monsters along their appointed rounds. Good stuff, although there doesn’t seem to be any room for the single action hogleg once so popular.

I carried several double action revolvers for years. Still do, sometimes, although these days I favor a lighter, easily concealed semi auto in .380 or 9mm. That is more of a concession to the aches and pains of old age than it is to favoritism. My ancient revolvers function flawlessly and respond exactly to my personal quirks.

Read this column for fun, then go, rent a Dirty Harry movie and see what the actor accomplished with his .44 magnum. I had one of those once, which I traded for a carbine in the same caliber. I could never seem to hit anything with the hand cannon.

THE NRA SPEAKS OUT
on
'THE DISCLOSE ACT'

There is a growing fight among politicians, lobbyists, and plain old citizens like ourselves over a nasty piece of legislation working its way through the brain-dead members of the American House of Representatives commonly referred to as 'THE DISCLOSE ACT'. In a nutshell it would limit the free speach of certain private citizens and lobbying groups when it comes to political campaigns.

It is far more damaging to our freedom of speech than ever was that horrible MCCAIN-FEINGOLD law which is still on the books.

To gather support a very few organizations, including the NRA, is exempted from the provisions of this new bill. Many, including members of the NRA thought the organization had caved in to shadey politics and was supporting THE DISCLOSE ACT.

Not true. Please click MORE to read the statement published by the National Rifle Association which sets forth its exact position on this matter.

Don't be fooled by the numerous mis-representations circulating around cyberspace at this very moment.

MULTIPLE MURDERS BY FIREARM IN EUROPE
Where The Gun Laws Are Far Stricter Than Ours

Lew Rockwell started my day (not with a bang, please) with an article on murders by firearm in Europe. Mass killings are definitely not an American phenomenon as most seem to assume.

John Lott is an prolific author, a savvy chap whose researches into the gun cultures are revealing. Here he shares some of this information drawing the conclusion that strict gun laws can and will be circumvented by those who are bent on mass murder. Mr. Lott uses recent statistics to back up his position.

His piece is called “Think Tough Gun Laws Keep Europeans Safe? Think Again...” and can be read directly here: http://www.lewrockwell.com/lott/lott68.1.html

It is just the thing to get your mind in gear early on a Saturday morning.

Remember, it is the SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION that insures that our other freedoms cannot be taken away by the growing power of our central authorities.

CHEATING TEACHERS?
Not Just In Georgia Anymore

To this old and long ago middle and secondary school teacher, the thought that members of my former profession would actually ‘cheat’ to raise the scores of their young charges by means other than good instruction is almost comprehensible.

But it is happening as this article found on DRUDGE and published first in the NEW YORK TIMES more than most realize.

Access it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/11/education/11cheat.html

SEVENTEEN
and
DOWN and OUT

A frantic midnight knocking at the front door ruptured my first hour of sleep three nights ago.

Bathrobe on, .380 racked and ready, I peeked out a side window. There stood a teenager I knew well. He appeared agitated, his eye slits red and wild. His normally skinny frame looked almost emaciated in the glare of the outside flood light. The kid, only recently a denizen of the area juvenile lock-up, was out on parole but had vanished from the neighborhood a few weeks earlier.

Cautiously I let him in.

“Don, I haven’t eaten in two days and I’m high,” he blurted out, expecting a hand out, of course. I had fed him many times in the somewhat distant past.

“You damned fool, if you have money for dope, you have money for food.”

Any junky’s priorities, like the practicing alcoholic’s, are sure screwed up.

The boy took a seat in one of the swivel chairs in my den. He was pale, his eyes darted from side to side as if looking for something that might harm him, he was clearly scared. In limping half sentences he told me the story of his last few days. He was broke, living in a makeshift tent in a patch of woods somewhere, probably hunted by a dope dealer to whom he owed money, his normal teen sense of immortality pretty much shattered.

Paranoia will do that.

Raised in a loving, Christian home, this youngster had begun to explore the dark side shortly after his thirteenth birthday when he spent much of that year buoyed by O.J. and vodka while at school. It was a short jump from there to full fledged street gangsterism.

I listened intently. I had worked with this boy, off and on, since the summer he turned twelve and the private school his parents wanted him to attend required some remedial work. “Now excuse me,” I interrupted, “I have to call the police now.”

“Why, Don”?

“Because you young idiot. There is a felony warrant out on you, and if I don'’ I can be thrown into the slammer for harboring a criminal. If they arrest me, you better hope that they put us in separate cells. If not you will be strangled dead before sun-up.”

That registered. I could tell by the expression of shock and terror crossing his pale face.

He bolted. Turned rabbit and ran. I immediately called the police dispatch number. Four cruisers showed up within five minutes. They left after a search of the neighborhood.

The child is still on the run, his life pretty much over.

Sad.

GOVERNOR PERDUE SIGNS SB308
Jim Crow Public Gathering Laws Nullified After 140 Years

JUST RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING MEMO FROM GEORGIA CARRY dot ORG:

June 7, 2010

Dear GCO Member,

Today represents a giant step forward for GeorgiaCarry.Org and for the citizens of the state of Georgia. The day many of you have dreamed of and worked very hard to see has finally arrived. The 140 year old, Jim Crow Public Gathering law is now in its proper resting place, the Georgia history books. Governor Sonny Perdue signed SB308 into law and it takes effect immediately!

The historical significance of the repeal of the Public Gathering law is monumental! To date, there has not been one law passed in the state of Georgia that affects the second amendment the way SB308 does! So, give yourselves a pat on the back and begin to celebrate.

However, it is GCO's position that we should all celebrate in a manner that will not bring negative publicity or impact our new freedoms in any way. Remember, our actions are being watched and those who were against this law would like nothing better than to have fodder to use against us. And, since our mission is not over as we still have objectives to accomplish, they will be much easier to accomplish if the transition from HB89 law to SB308 law goes smoothly with little notice by the general public. We need to exercise our rights in a manner that reflects positively for GCO.

GeorgiaCarry.Org will do a series of updates explaining the changes in the law, starting this week. In the meantime, the "As Passed - SB308 Bill" can be found here. Please remember, it is your responsibility to know the law when you are exercising the right to bear arms. Also, remember that law enforcement officers will also require time to understand the new law as well. Most laws do not go into effect until July 1 after the end of the session which gives law enforcement some time to train. This law goes into effect today and they have not had time to get updated on the changes.

Lastly, each member should contact the Governor and thank him for signing SB308.

Those of us with Concealed Weapons Permits must continue to exercise our rights sanely and soberly.

MAGIC MOMENT
at a
HERMAN CAIN
TEA PARTY

This video clip sent in by Riverside Red shows our friend, Herman Cain, speaking at a recent ‘Tea Party’ in Douglas County (Georgia) is likely to stun you. It is in two parts….for the patriotic, it is likely to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand straight up.

Also, I have taken the liberty of posting the rest of our National Anthem AKA THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER. Most have never heard the other three verses.

CLICK ON: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9_bP219ehQ&feature=youtu.be

The Star Spangled Banner

Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

too many
C O P R O C R A T S
in the ranks of
AMERICAN POLITICIANS

I haven’t used this word in a couple of years or so. But it fits today as never before in the history of the American Republic. Besides, it’s an election year.

Take a look at these word roots from the ancient Greek Language:

COPRO=dung (etc.) CRAT (ruling, to govern)

The meaning is clear when applied to him or her who governs us. A ‘coprocrat’ is a shitty elected official.

Example: “Nancy Pelosi, a Californian COPROCRAT, may be defeated in the November election.” (We wish).

By extension, the United States has become a ‘coprocracy’. Sad, isn’t it?

Now, think of your favorite ‘coprocrat’ and let us know who he (or she) is.

My vote goes to …………..

PS: Don ‘t forget ‘coprophage’ The Greek root ‘phage’ means ‘eating’. ‘Georgia has a ‘coprophage’ for a United States Senator’. Which one? Take your pick, they are both RINOS.

IT'S ALL IN GENESIS
according to
PROFESSOR MIKE ADAMS

”Joel Osteen makes millions of dollars suppressing Holy Scripture. Oprah Winfrey makes billions actually rewriting them. And the conservative atheist fails to see the connection between the current popularity of these two charlatans and the current political climate in this declining nation.”

Mike Adams returned to Town Hall dot Com this morning in a smashing little piece called “SMILING FOR DOLLARS ( http://townhall.com/columnists/MikeAdams/2010/06/07/smiling_for_dollars ) in which he defends last week’s attack on Joel Osteen and, by implication, the whole cabal of modern Christian preachers who depart from reliance on holy writ as they promulgate their version of a purely social gospel and claim that we can all become rich, happy, prozac-controlled, sexually-satisfied citizens of the world.

Adams is a traditional Christian and university professor who is fearless enough to bring his beliefs into the secular world of the college classroom.

Much to his credit, he is not a fan of Oprah W.

While I do not share his Christian ‘beliefs’, I admire his courage in swimming upstream against the tides and current of modern academe.

I am also not a fan of Oprah.

Good column.

A HISTORY LESSON
from
ANCIENT ROME

The citizens of Rome in the first two centuries A.D. generally lived a reasonably carefree life. They enjoyed a decent standard of living, good medical care, and lived in a world where peace was the watchword of the day; armed conflict was limited to wars fought on the fringes of a far-flung empire.

The masses, often referred to as ‘the urban mob’ by writers of that day consisted of families who lived on a kind of public welfare known as ‘the dole’, wherein each was given sufficient food, drink and monies so as to make his life fairly comfortable and far preferable to having to earn a living by the sweat of the brow. The Roman Citizen was the envy of the Mediterranean world.

There was massive public entertainment lest the good people become bored and restless, for when the mob became collectively irate it could unseat emperors and overthrow an entire regimes. Even the lowliest citizen could find cheap and even free, often bloody entertainment at the massive Coliseum or the huge Circus Maximus where teams of charioteers vied with one another for victory and the adulation of the fickle people.

Sports figures and gladiators were the public’s heroes du jour.

A once representative, republican form of government had morphed in a hundred years or so into the most powerful state in all history, headed by a single man and the bureaucratic apparatus that concentrated all real power in his hands alone. Augustus Caesar, Rome’s first ‘Emperor’ (he never took that title for himself) may have been the most successful politician in the history of the Western World.

Most of Rome’s citizens could read and write, being more literate in the aggregate than many modern states including our own.

The change from Constitutional Republic to despotic empire took place over many years. It happened so slowly that few seemed to notice.

THE ROMAN PEOPLE LOST THEIR FREEDOM AND INDIVIDUALITY WHEN THEY CAME TO RELY ON THEIR GOVERNMENT TO SUPPLY ALL THEIR NEEDS AND WANTS.

Any Questions?

SIGN, GOVERNOR, SIGN!!!
Letter From GEORGIA CARRY dot ORG Urging Members To Contact Governor Perdue

Saturday, June 5, 2010

Dear GCO Member,

The deadline for Governor Perdue to sign or veto SB 308 and SB 291 is fast approaching - this week! Tuesday, to be exact. So please contact Gov. Perdue's office now!

Last-minute lobbying heats up on gun bills
7:18 pm June 4, 2010, by Jim Galloway

Now that Gov. Sonny Perdue has signed the bill to ban texting while driving, we can move on to other matters.
Like whether visitors to Hartsfield-Jackson should be able to carry concealed weaponry, if properly licensed.
Two bills must be signed or vetoed by next Tuesday. SB 308, sponsored by state Sen. Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg), is a vast overhaul of the state’s laws applying to weaponry and public gatherings.
It would permit concealed carry at airport pick-up and drop-off points.
The other, SB 291, sponsored by state Sen. David Shafer (R-Duluth), is a measure less ambitious in scope – but it would permit the carrying of licensed weaponry in any airport areas that aren’t covered by federal restrictions.
We’ve been passed a letter that Shafer sent to the governor today, urging his signature – and reminding Perdue of public statements the governor has made on the matter. The letter also notes that the bill was custom-made to answer Perdue’s previous concerns.
Read it here.
Shafer also addresses a measure proposed in Congress, by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Decatur) and Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), to pre-empt the measure:
“The suggestion that Islamic terrorists might obtain Georgia firearms licenses in order to brandish weapons at baggage claim is as ridiculous and Congressman Johnson’s worry that the island of Guam might tip over because of the deployment of additional American soldiers.
“Please do not be deterred or cowed by the absurd claims of those who want Americans to be dependent on the government for everything from their health care to their personal safety.”

MACON UNDER SIEGE

Kids are out of school.

Three shootings yesterday, three at least because we don’t always get all the crime statistics, though we are working on that.

Our sheriff tells the County Commish’s that crime is up fifteen per cent. He needs money to stem the bad guy tide.

If reality is perception, then this community, city and county, are in deep doo-doo, drowning in thuggery, stolen cars, bank robberies, murder, commercial and residential break-ins, dope dealing, prostitution masquerading as massage, vandalism, gang activity, and all manner of illegal endeavor.

The cops arrest the bad guys, they are all too often out on the mean streets within hours: so porous is the bail system, so crowded the jails, so lenient the judges.

There are two things that will kill this county sooner than anything else: (1) first is our pathetic school system, (2) second is crime.

For those who know it, Macon ranks fifth in the nation in crime for a city of our size, for those who don’t know it, Macon ranks fifth in the nation in criminal activity for a city of our size.

We got big troubles, trouble right here in River City. There are no viable solutions in sight, within budget, inside the fevered minds of those we elect.

More, later!!!

GAUDET ALL-STAR BASEBALL CAMP
Tomorrow

It’s one of the finest events ever to hit mid-state Georgia.

The GAUDET ALL STAR BASEBALL CAMP is a free one day clinic for boys and girls ages six through twelve which provides both instruction and encouragement for the kids to participate in organized baseball and softball.

It is the brainchild of Jim and Jami Gaudet, he a former big league catcher and current chiropractor, she a former radio and TV newswoman, and currently Public Relations head within the MPD.

The Gaudets are among the most generous, giving, and selfless families on the face of the earth. Jim and Jami have been at this for two and a half decades. Thousands of young Georgians have attended this annual event.

Got a T Baller or Little Leaguer? Got a kid who plays softball like there’s no tomorrow? Bring ‘em on down to Luther Williams tomorrow and stay to watch the action.

BAR FIGHTS
ON FILM and TAPE
TWENTY OF THEM

It’s probably the hour of the morning. One of the cats woke me up a few moments ago (2:30 AM) and I turned for solace to my ‘puter and Lew Rockwell in particular. Only got so far as one article called something like THE TWENTY BEST BAR FIGHTS OF ALL TIME. It contains video links to fifteen movie scenes and five taken from what some folks call ‘real life’.

Now I owned a bar once upon a time, but never had a fight there. Never been in a bar fight myself in my whole life.

But…….well, let the article speak for itself. I have had some fun and only looked at two of the clips. Here is a little something to do on a rainy day in June:

”Bar fights are the ultimate expression of testosterone-fuled machismo. Two guys (or sometimes more) get liquored up, exchange some four-letter words, and then beat the ever-lovin’ crap out of each other. It’s simple, primal and totally awesome. And when these fights are caught on tape, we can enjoy them over and over again.
Here’s our list of the 20 best bar fights. 15 of them are from movies, and the remaining five are clips from real-life bars from around the world. And they’re all 100% USDA Prime Bad-Ass.”

Here be the link. Not for girly men too taken with political correctness and: http://www.lewrockwell.com/spl2/20-best-bar-fights.html
Thanks, Lew Rockwell.

FBI: CRIME STATISTICS DOWN
NRA: MORE GUNS LESS CRIME
murder rates at a 45 year low

A ‘Grassroots Alert’ from the National Rifle Association out late last week argues that, nationally, crimes are down due to the increase in gun sales over the past three or so years.

Arguable? Of course.

Me? I take seriously the button I wear courtesy of Georgia Carry dot COM which reads GUNS SAVE LIVES.

Here is the NRA statement in full:

FBI DATA AGAIN SHOWS MORE GUNS=LESS CRIME

”Anyone needing proof that fanaticism for gun control hasn't waned on Capitol Hill, that anti-gunners are -- as Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) put it last year -- only waiting to "pick the time," should watch the video of Mexican president Felipe Calderon's speech to Congress last week, versions of which have been posted on you tube dot cm. When Calderon asked that the federal "assault weapon" ban be re-imposed, a very large number of U.S. Representatives and Senators present gave him a standing ovation.

However, on Monday the FBI released crime statistics that should cause the applauding anti-gunners to sit on their hands. The statistics indicate that between 2008 and 2009, as gun sales soared, the number of murders in our country decreased 7.2 percent. That amounts to about an 8.2 percent decrease in the per capita murder rate, after the increase in our nation's legal and illegal population is taken into account. And it translates into about a 10.5 percent decrease in the murder rate between 2004, when the ban expired, and the end of 2009. And finally, it means that in 2009 our nation's murder rate fell to a 45-year low.”
