No Time For B'logging
Yes...or no. Maybe, 'NO'!!!!
Who knows?
So where have you been?
Been? Nowhere...right here....here in Maconga. Right here in River City without benefit of seventy-six damned and noisy trombones, or even a piccolo.
Mainly been in my garden, or what will become my garden if I ever finish spading leaky acres up, tilling the black soil, and removing weeds one at a time, mounds and mounds of nasty, sometimes prickly, sometimes smooth weeds. All deep rooted and resisting any effort to tear their grasp away from the bones of Mother Earth.
Great stuff, gardening. Optimists make the best farmers. I am an optimist. Always have been. Plant in March start harvesting vegetables by June First. For me it's tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers....those and a few herbs make my garden complete.
No flowers....only plant what I can eat or give away to others who will eat. Lots of good folks depending on my limited skill at coaxing life from dormant seed.
No time for b'logging this week. Let the rift within the Gang of Fifteen, let the stupidity of the federal administration's screwed-up economics, let the North Korean Gooky missiles, let the bully boys of the G20, let the final four do what they will, my heart belongs to the labour of my hands, my shovel, my rake, my capacity to grow.

All items donated will be turned over to the Middle Georgia Food Bank to help that worthy organization give a boost to neighbors in need.
Competetive smatches each Saturday Morning in April are scheduled. Details and contacts are noted below. The public is invited to share in the fun.
Matches are open to anyone seven years old and up. Firearm safety is our primary concern at any time. Having good, clean family fun in the outdoors while lending a helping hand is the real goal of these events. We do ask that any children participating be directly supervised by a parent or guardian.

A Global Currency, Anyone?
Russia's Putin said it first.
The chant was picked up by our commie friends in China.
Even our own Treasury Secretary, Timmy Geithner, chimed in.
“OK, boys and girls....let's start a one-world, global currency.”
Oh shit!!! Sure and let us surrender our traditional constitutional rights to that highly suspect organization, the United Nations.
My ultra conservative Christian friends are delighted, of course, for a single, global currency is one of the 'signs' that point to the eschaton, the end times, the fulfillment of all those 'events' they imagine are predicted in REVELATION, the final chapter of the New Testament.
Of course Christians have been waiting for some sort of 'second coming' since Jesus was crucified, this being their pie-in-the-sky hope for a kind of ultimate vindication of their belief system. That's almost two thousand years, now; and still he ain't here. The author of Revelation must have been drunk, stoned, nuts, or had one hell of a sense of humor.
In a nutshell the global currency idea is not good for America because any way comes to pass simply means that we have to surrender elements of our sovereignty to unelected, third-world bureaucrats who detest the essence of what we are.
Just so no. And let's dump Timmy Geithner before he goes too far.

A sharp-eyed neighbor spotted a black truck cruising....stopping....and cruising the upper alley around midnight yesterday (Tuesday). The occupant was a single white male. The vehicle was too far away to get a license plate number. The police were called and told the neighbor that some juveniles had been spotted 'up the street' (upper Boulevard, most likely) selling dope....this after midnight.

Right here, in this little corner of cyberspace, the legislators were urged to follow the injunction, FIRST, DO NO HARM.
It is quite obvious that this rudderless, leaderless, gaggle of incompetent pols did hear the plea, but followed it imperfectly. “First Do No Harm”, became, “FIRST, DO NOTHING”.

Say you are president. You thunder about how your predecessor's bailouts let corporate execs keep big bonuses at taxpayer expense. That won't happen on your watch!
And then it does. AIG bigwigs take $165 million.
So you are angry at yourself, for signing that stimulus bill with its specific language permitting TARP recipients to pay bonuses if bonuses were part of contracts made before February of '09.
Maybe somebody should have read the legislation. So who has that job? Besides you . . . I mean the president himself. Why, Congress, of course!
Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley said he would at least "feel better" were AIG executives to apologize and then either "resign or go commit suicide."
Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer advocate passing a special tax to confiscate all the bonus money ex post facto.
Dodd didn't mention that he had authored the provision specifically permitting the AIG bonuses. He has now said he'll return the $280,000 in donations he's received from AIG executives. Schumer was mum about his $112,000 from those same execs.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar said, "We've got to do whatever it takes to make sure people that basically ripped off the American people weren't able to profit from it."
So is she talking about AIG . . . or Congress?

In fact spent much of the weekend doing Cherry Blossom things. Even ate some pink pancakes which offended my sense of sight but did wonderful things for my internal well-being. Great stuff even if the sausage patties were rather over-crisped around the edges.
Coffee was good. As was the companionship.

I combed the local media this morning.....radio, TV, and BLATT and BUGLE and guess what?
Not a crime has taken place in Maconga since the opening of the Cherry Blossom Festival on Friday last.
Nary a robbery, rape, carjacking, murder, drug bust, domestic violence, bank heist, home invasion, pickpocketing, or convenience store thuggery. Nothing whatsoever.
While crime has vanished from the local scene, we can still read about things like shooting sprees and other horrors. But they take place in far off lands like California and have nothing whatsoever to do with the good folks from insular Middle Georgia.
The good news is that this zero crime rate is sure to last through next weekend; the bad news is that it will pick up once again just as soon as the Cherry Blossom is history.
Gotta keep the tourists safe, don't we?

Our Government Has Been Taking Away Freedoms For More Than 200 Years

For the last century especially, we have seen the government lump together violent and in many cases unsavory agitators on both the left and right with Americans who simply question unlimited government, nationalist police powers and disastrous foreign wars. While there are indeed some violent and crazed elements on the fringes of the right and left -- while there are likewise some extremist characters and frightening viewpoints in the mainstream of American politics, too -- the result of such government persecution of dissenters is always to marginalize everyday citizens with unpopular views, conflate thoughtful and principled criticism of the government with agitation for social unrest and violence, and jeopardize the civil liberties of all Americans.”
Here is one heck of a thought-provoking article on the history of American 'loss of freedom', from post colonial times down through the Bush and Obama administrations.
Make no mistake about it, our liberties have been slowly eroded for more than two centuries....we talk about them, give lip-service to them, but deep down Americans seem to prefer security. (My Note: Not unlike the German People of the 1930's....the more things change, the more they become the same.)

Our Neighborhood Watch President, after consulting somebody, decided to put off the party scheduled for this Saturday evening. This I didn't find out until yesterday. My apologies to everybody, half the City Council and several dozen others whom I invited....in good faith.
Our local group plans to attend 'Balloon Glow' which doesn't appeal very much to this Old Man, so I guess I will occupy my evening with searching our ammunition bargains on the Internet.

”In an interview with CNN Wednesday evening, Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) said that “staff-level people” at the Treasury Department pushed him to add what seemed like “innocent modifications” to an amendment he offered to the stimulus bill — and that language, in turn, made it possible for the bailed-out insurance giant to pay its employees more than $100 million in bonuses last week.
The best discussion I have found about the AIG....BONUS.....WHO KNEW WHAT? mess can be found on today's POLITICO, and it points out for all to see quite plainly that Congressional Democrats and the Obama Administration are not on the same page.
That doesn't mean that the Congressional GOP is on any page, or even that it can read?

The conference presenters argued that Sirhan Sirhan could not have fired the fatal shot that killed Kennedy. Dr. Robert Joling has studied the Kennedy assassination for nearly 40 years, he concluded that the fatal shot came from behind Kennedy, while Sirhan was four to six feet in front of the senator and never got close enough to shoot him from behind.”
So writes Matt Sullivan in a provocative article entitled ”40 Years Since RFK Assassination, Mounting Evidence of CIA Involvement”

Mr. Sullivan argues that thirteen shots were fired at the moment of RFK's murder, while the accused, Sirhan Sirhan's pistol held only eight; that the bullet killing the former AG came from behind him while Sirhan stood directly in front; that critical evidence was destroyed by the CIA; and that three CIA operatives can be identified by name in the immediate vicinity of the assassination.
Strong stuff. I like a good conspiracy theory as well as the next citizen. Do we need to reopen the case? Should an official investigation expose the loathsome underbelly of our government at its most murderous?

ENDANGERED RUNAWAY FOUND
Fourteen year old runaway, Lauren Harrell, was found today by Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies at an address on Grace Road. An anonymous tip forwarded by the Bibb Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division lead to her recovery. She was in good health when found and was interviewed by Bibb Sheriff’s Investigators. Lauren Harrell’s case will now be turned over to juvenile authorities. She is currently in the custody of her parents.
No further information will be released at this time.

Let me be honest from the outset, I absolutely detest the color pink.
It goes back to my early teen years when I heard our much older and much admired football team captain make the politically incorrect comment, “Mr (name of teacher) had on a pink shirt in class today. That's for the limp wrist crowd.”
I do not believe that the grown men in our fair city who boast pink sport coats and matching (ugh!!) ties every spring are in any way suspect, however.
But it's Cherry Blossom Festival Time in good olde Maconga. Starts Friday with some official event and goes through the following weekend topped off by a massive (weather permitting) street party and an arts and crafts fair.

We want tourists by the hundreds of thousands to come as the city (and the festival itself) is in bad shape financially. President Bush told us to 'spend' following 9/11. Mayor Reichert says much the same thing.
One of the great things about CB is that the crime rate drops to nothing, at least the reporting of it tails off almost to zero. We don't want to alarm the tourists so your local newspaper will be filled with good, clean, wholesome new and human interest stories. Burglaries, break-ins, and assorted mayhem will not be reported or will become relegated to the last section....somewhere between the help wanted and the yard sale ads.
Over the years Macon's guests and tourists tended to be older folk, octogenarians who tour by bus and take in ours and similar frivolity all over the South. You can see them in places like the Hay House and along the third street park offloading by the thousands, a steady stream of blue and gray hairs many relying on canes and walkers, many more in wheel or power chairs.
These oldssters don't do much for the night life, but the sale of Depends, Geritol, and Viagra takes a healthy up-tick during our festal days.

Jacob Sullum has a fine little article this morning in the Townhall Newsletter, this in the wake of last week's horrific rampage through three Alabama towns.
The anti gun crowd became instantly energized within hours of the murders and is pulling out all the stops to create a climate in which 'assault weapons' can be made illegal.
Trouble is, those who would ban 'assault weapons' have no real idea about what one of these things is. The American public has not had ready access to 'assault weapons', that is firearms capable of automatic fire, for decades.
Sullum's piece is somewhat 'old hat' to those of us knowledgeable about firearms. It could be useful to those unfamiliar with guns or newbies in their use. It also serves to remind us that any ban on rifles, pistols, and shotguns constitutes erosion of old 2A, the Second Amendment, the prop that keeps our other civil liberties more or less intact.

Thanks to some really hard work by my fellow Special Operations personnel and especially Investigator Paul McDuffie, it looks as if we will have a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Team float in the parade Sunday. A certain local NW member will be prominently featured on our float and a few more will be riding and waving. I hope everyone can show up to watch and cheer. The parade starts a 3 PM on Sunday.

Stratford Parents Sentenced Following Soccer Team Booze Party
Writes Amy Leigh Womack in this morning's T'GRAPH, “Assistant Solicitor General Rebecca Grist said Jerre Leonadis Pearson, 53, and his wife, M. Kerby Pearson, 49, were sentenced to pay a $1,000 fine, serve a year on probation and attend a victim’s impact panel after entering their pleas Feb. 11. The Pearsons were sentenced as first offenders, meaning if they complete their sentences as ordered they will not have a misdemeanor conviction listed on their criminal record, Grist said.”

Birds and Airplanes
Since the miraculous safe landing in the Hudson River by a plane which had run afoul of a flock of birds, there has been a spate of reports of plane and bird mid air collisions.
Just this afternoon the AJC reported another such, a Delta jet made it safely to home port, fortunately.
There is a simple, foolproof solution to this increasingly dangerous development. Something has to be done before hundreds of people are killed in a single, horrific fireball.
That simple solution: why Kill all the birds, of course.

A Stabbing At Club $$$$$$$$
The fatal stabbing of a young patron during a melee at CLUB MONEY in South Macon should be a matter of grave concern for all area residents.
Why? Because it happened at 3:20 in the morning.
In Bibb County alcoholic beverages must not, by law, be served after 2:00 AM.
In the nineties, when my kids and I ran the late, lamented CELLAR on Cherry Street, we were told in no uncertain terms that we were required to stop service at 2:00 and clear the club by 2:30. Those orders came from the Macon PD and were universally observed in Downtown Macon.
The question to be asked by the authorities...did this South Macon nightspot sell (or give away) booze after the 2:00 AM witching hour?
Had we violated the law like that I have no doubt that our liquor license would have been pulled in a nanosecond.

UPDATE ON MISSING TEEN
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has been placing an emphasis on the areas between I-475 at U.S. 80 and the Bloomfield area near Colonial Mall in reference to missing 14 year old possibly endangered runaway Lauren Harrell. Hotel employees in those areas have reported sighting Harrell in the area as recently as Thursday. Anyone with information on this case can contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-746-9441.

Bank Burglaries
Two Bibb County banks were burglarized between the hours of 3 AM and 4 AM today. Bibb Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an alarm at the Atlantic Southern Bank on Eisenhower Parkway in Lizella shortly after 3 AM this morning to find that entry had been made to the bank. No coins were available on this occasion and the thieves left empty handed. A previous similar burglary occurred at that location on February 28th.
Approximately 30 minutes later, Sheriff’s Patrolmen responded to an alarm at the Robins Federal Credit Union on Zebulon Road. Once again burglars had made entry and no coins were available. Bibb Sheriff’s Investigators are comparing notes with investigators from Crawford County on a similar burglary that occurred at the Atlantic Southern Bank in Roberta shortly before 3 AM today. Bibb Investigators are also working with investigators from Butler and Columbus in reference to very similar burglaries that have occurred between Macon and the Phenix City, Alabama area since December.

So queried Neal Boortz of Jamie Dupree in the course of this morning's broadcast.
The remark apparently fell on deaf ears. But the question should be explored further:
Madoff ran an elaborate 'Ponzi' Scheme in which suckers new to his 'system' paid the older suckers who thought their money had been invested by this guru-darling of finance. No money was invested as promised....the left hand threw some crumbs into the palm of the right.
The SS Ponzi runs something like this: older, retired workers (like myself) receive monthly checks from the government. The monies we were required to pay into the system were never invested. The deductions from the paychecks of the current workforce pay us. No money is being invested as things now stand.
What's the difference.....Bernie's scheme was collapsing of its own weight set upon a weak foundation, exactly as the Social Security system is collapsing from the short-sighted, venal nature of the Washington-style politician.

Armed Robbery Arrests
Bibb Sheriff’s Investigators arrested the second of two armed robbery suspects on Tuesday March 10th. Cleveland Lanthrip age 21 and Domnick Williams age 31, both of Macon are in custody at the Bibb County Jail charged with one count of Armed Robbery each. Deputies took Lanthrip into custody on March 9th following a domestic dispute. Evidence discovered during the call indicated that Lanthrip was involved in the December 9th armed robbery of the Value Place Motel 4949 Harrison Road. Information obtained during the subsequent investigation also lead investigators to obtain a warrant for Williams. Members of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force took Williams into custody Tuesday. Neither suspect has been given a bond at this point.

The Colonial Bank located at 5590 Thomaston Road was burglarized at around 1:30 AM today. The bank’s security company sent a notice of a burglar alarm to the branch manager at approximately 1:26 AM. The branch manager arrived within several minutes and did not notice any obvious damage or signs of entry. The Bibb Sheriff’s Office was not notified of the alarm.
Employees opening the bank hours later noticed that coin vaults at the teller stations had been broken into and that an undisclosed amount of coins had been taken. Bibb Sheriff’s Investigators and Crime Scene Investigators noted that the method of entry to the building’s rear entry door caused very little damage and may have easily been missed during the night hours. Investigators gathered evidence from the scene, examined surveillance videos and canvassed nearby businesses for clues. The case remains under investigation.
A similar burglary occurred at the Atlantic Southern Bank 8340 Eisenhower Parkway on Saturday February 28th of this year. Deputies were dispatched to an alarm at approximately 8: 48 PM and arrived minutes later to find slight damage to the door. Further investigation revealed that coins had been stolen from the teller stations. Video surveillance showed what appeared to be a male subject of undetermined race wearing a mask, long sleeves and gloves.
Investigators urge anyone with information on these cases to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-746-9441 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.

The facts of the situation: Professor Paula Anderson teaches a class in communications at Central Connecticut State University. She assigned an oral presentation taking one side or another on a controversial topic. Her student, John Wahlberg a twenty-three-year old living twenty miles from the campus, argued that had weapons be allowed to be carried LEGALLY on the Virginia Tech campus, the bloodbath of a couple of years back might not have taken placed.
Paula called the cops who detained Wahlberg, marched him off for interrogation, and clearly violated his civil liberties....all on the whim of a moron.

It was shortly after school last Friday when an out of breath fifteen-year-old threw himself headlong into my living room and breathlessly told me that his school, The Hutchins Career Center, had been raided that afternoon.
Among the items seized was a pistol. The owner was led out in handcuffs.
By yesterday (Monday) the specifics included: a boy brought a loaded .45 semi-automatic pistol to school, along with two magazines filled with nasty-looking bullets and a list of kids he planned to shoot.
NOT TRUE!! There was something of a raid with some weed and smoking paraphernalia confiscated, but no gun, no ammunition, no hit list.
I was concerned and questioned the MPD folks at our meeting last night. Not a one of them had heard of a raid which wasn't a major concern since the bust was conducted by School Security personnel who don't always share.
This morning I called the School Board and got the skinny from David Gowan, Director of School Safety and one heck of a sharp chap. He knew about the gun rumor and said in most emphatic terms that it was just that, a rumor....no weapon had been confiscated. No student had planned a Columbine-like assault on his fellow students.
Rumors are dangerous. They spread like a California brush fire and do damage. Good to get the truth on this matter straight from the top.

As noted yesterday, I attended the MACON NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING last night. Every three months citizens and police officers get together for some information exchange and update.
Judy Gordon, now nine months into the office of coordinator, is doing a splendid job promoting the Neighborhood Watch idea within the city. There is a sense of renewal and vitality at these meetings that is most encouraging.
Last night I had the pleasure of congratulating Chief Burns on the current line-up of his four precinct captains: Carr, May, Doss, and White. These are men of exceptional ability, thoroughly dedicated to their very difficult job. They are consummate professionals working effectively with limited resources, reduced manpower, and a sometimes blind city government.
Thanks, guys, for all you do to serve and protect.

A revealing article in USA TODAY ( http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-03-08-mex-cartels_N.htm ) exposed the sordid fact that the Mexican Drug Cartels have moved lock stock and barrel into Atlanta and are turning Georgia's premier city into their East Coast distribution center.
To date there has not been the level of violence seen in cities like Houston and locations along the Mexican/US border. It is only a question of time. However.
And it is a fact beyond the shadow of a doubt that the violence and the narcotics will spread out and touch us here in the sleepy little city astride the Ocmulgee.
I asked two question at the Macon Neighborhood Association Quarterly Meeting an hour or so ago: was the Macon PD aware of the impending crisis coming at us from Atlanta; and do they have contingency plans to deal with it?
The answer was a resounding yes on both counts. I sense a pre-emptive first strike from a police force that seems better organized and motivated than I have ever seen it.
Ours was an excellent meeting.

A Middle Georgia REACT member saw a silver vehicle at around 8 AM today parked in front of his home. The vehicle matches the general description of the vehicle used in a recent Northridge subdivision burglary. The driver backed up immediately a long distance to the next intersection when the garage door to the home opened. The vehicle is possibly a Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable. It is a silver 4-door. The first three characters of the tag are possibly AVB. The driver was a black male. This sighting was on Lochwold Drive off Thomaston Road (close to the Northridge area). If you spot this vehicle in your area, contact law enforcement immediately to report a suspicious vehicle and person. Attempt to get a full tag number if safely possible.

A chap I know once compared Chris Krok to Socrates, who claimed that he was a 'horsefly' biting the flank of the complacent city state of Athens.
Not true. The analogy doesn't work. Krok is more like one of those flies that buzzes around offal and waste looking for a filthy place to lay its eggs, so far down in the dirty is he.
The Athenian politicians of the day exercised one of their options and sentenced old Mr. Socrates to drink a cup of the poison hemlock, which made the problem go away.

For three long and tedious days local talk radio flapster, C. Krok, has railed against an op-ed piece by Professor Katherine Meeks which appeared in Wednesday's T'GRAPH.
This column, which Krok mis-labels as an 'editorial', is a plea for 'civility' early in the Obama era. Meeks thinks that too many in the media have taken a harsh and negative tone toward the new President and pleads for moderation in discourse and discussion about the man and his policies.
Krok is never mentioned by name. The only reference to him is one small part of a single sentence within the context of a longer paragraph. The paragraph is reproduced below....the underlined segment is Krok reference:
”How did we arrive at this place where there is seemingly such a lack of civility? The recent New York Post cartoon depicting a mortally wounded chimpanzee with a reference to the president, the attacks of a local radio talk show host on Councilwoman Elaine Lucas and the attacks I have received via e-mail and in letters to the editor do not represent an ability or willingness to engage in a civil discussion that honors democracy and the right to free speech or the right to dissent. It seems most of the folks I am speaking about believe the right to free speech is their right, but not the right of those with whom they disagree.”
“….... the attacks of a local radio talk show host on Councilwoman Elaine Lucas..........” Not exactly an entire op-ed aimed at the Krokster's head, is it?
And for three days Krokie has blistered the airways and the ears of his audience with diatribe claiming that Ms. Meeks' 'editorial' was all about him, a 'hit piece' on Chris Krok', to be exact.
He wrote the T'GRAPH's Editor, Charles Richardson, and sent in a hastily writ 'editorial', a defense of himself against the shafts and arrows of the Mercer Professor. This document is available on Krok's own website which can be reached through the WMAC web page. Editor Richardson wisely decided that krok's literary opus was inappropriate since it dealt with issues beyond the scope of the Professor's letter. The Shock Jock had, like many when caught in a rat trap, tried to put all his pet rocks in a single basket.
So, deprived of a place in newsprint, the predictable Krok vented his impotent anger for the better part of nine on air hours.
And bored Middle Georgia to death.

A daytime burglary occurred on Ashton Drive in Northridge Subdivision on 3-6-09. A contractor saw 3 black males at the residence. They were in a silver 4 door with gray interior. The vehicle was similar in size and appearance to a Buick Century. If you spot a similar vehicle & occupant combination involved in suspicious activity in your area, contact law enforcement. A tag number would be very helpful if it can be safely obtained.

The Obama Administration has snubbed the British government twice in recent weeks: Once when it removed and returned the venerable Winston Churchill bust from the Oval Office and again when he presented PM Gordon Brown with a ratty collection of CDs available at any chemist's shop in the UK. Does this ill treatment of our oldest and most dependable ally signal the premature death of that of touted 'special relationship'.
Here is an interesting article by a chap previously unknown to this b'logger, a guy named James Delingpole, who, apparently, covers the U.S. Political scene for the London Telegraph. He suggests, after what seems to be considerable research, that Michelle Obama is reaching back to her own feelings as a Black student at Princeton, coercing her hubby, who, after all, has no real understanding of history, modern or otherwise, into his obvious rudeness towards our staunch, historic transatlantic partner.
Far-fetched? Possibly. As an Anglophile yours truly has tended to treat the snubs as mere silly gaffes on the part of our neophyte commander-in-chief. Maybe something more sinister is afoot.

The President's Enemies List
Not everybody remembers the term 'enemies' list' from way back in the Nixon White House years.
His close advisors, Erlichman, Haldeman, Mitchell, and Dean, compiled a sho-nuff, real list of American citizens to be considered as 'enemies'.
Nixon's enemies, enemies of the state, enemies of the GOP, enemies of the military, enemies of the late departed canine Checkers, enemies of the White House barber....enemies everywhere stemming from the paranoia of that president's personality (“You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore.”) Enemies everywhere.
Begala, Carville, Emanuel, Stephanopoulos....only names have changed. The new enemies list grows apace.
And at the very top of the list is...
…..Rush Limbaugh....
That windbag who takes great delight in being so designated. Rush, if you believe the listers, is the face of the GOP. He has, after all, talent on loan from god.
The list is growing with every disaffected Obama supporter who dares now speak out.
But there is a name missing from this little grouping of arch fiends, enemies of the establishment. It's mine. No Lucipater there. And that's sad because if I have any talent it is not loan from god because I don't believe in deity.
It get's confusing, sometimes.
I just don't like President Obama's liberality, his politics, his lack of economic education, his tendency to surround himself with academic advisors who have had no experience in the world of practical business.
Does the fact that Nixon was paranoid (well, everybody was out to get him) indicate that Obama or at least the characters he inherited from Clinton are as well?
Do I belong on the President's list?
Hell, the only l enemies list I am currently on is that of Chris Krok of local talk radio infamy.
Were I he I would hate me, too.

So smart politicians promise us more transparency, more sunshine, more info. But, being politicians, sometimes they don't deliver. And, when they do, they often spend a whole lot more than necessary.
That's what is happening in Virginia. Bills to put the state budget online have passed both chambers of the legislature -- unanimously.
But politicians estimate that the cost to get the job done will run over $3 million. Wow. That's a lot. How does that compare with other states?
At the Tertium Quids blog, there's a letter posted from Ed Martin, chief of staff to former Missouri Governor Matt Blunt. Martin points out that two years ago Blunt created the Missouri Accountability Portal by executive order.
The website is a national model with a searchable database of state expenditures. It's garnered over 17 million hits from interested citizens. And it cost less than $200,000.
Then there's Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn. As the Washington Examiner recently reported, he put Nebraska spending online without the legislature passing a law. He just did it.
"I used my staff to compile the data," Osborn said. "I just viewed it as my job."
The grand cost of Osborn's excellent transparency website? Only $38,000.
Sounds like there are millions of reasons for Virginia to learn from others.

Raising taxes on the richest few Americans a couple of points doesn't really seem like much until you add all the extras: Social Security Taxes at every level of income, unearned income taxed at a staggering rate. Doesn't leave much to spend as 'disposable income', does it? There goes the economic engine that drives the world.

Just before 1:30 PM on February 25th a black male, a white male and a white female traveling together entered the Friendly Gus on Ocmulgee East Blvd. The black male concealed 2 bottles of beer just before walking out. The three left in a tan colored 2008 Dodge Caravan tag number BCX6342. If someone enters your business arriving in this vehicle, contact law enforcement to report suspicious persons and mention this BOLO.

At around noon today, a young, clean cut white male with dark hair wearing black clothing was going door to door in the Fountain Drive / Skipperton Road / Hartley Bridge Road area of South Bibb. He purported to be selling Kirby vacuum cleaner products and claimed a new store was to be opened soon in Bibb. One of the homeowners began to ask for details and the “salesman’s” story began to fall apart. He left a business card with no name and gave Bryan as his first name. He stated he was from the Kissimmee, Florida area.
If you encounter this person, contact law enforcement to report a suspicious person. We recommend that you not open the door to strangers and especially that you not allow door to door salesmen into your home. Distraction burglaries are being reported more often recently throughout Georgia.

An Observation On Local Talk Radio Audiences
Sorry to have to harp...
…..on Krok...
again....
But yours truly spent most of last week's early AM, fifteen hour stretch from six to nine AM listening to Chris Krok
and his competitors Kenny B and Charles R simultaneously.
On two different radios sandwiching an almost new coffee brewer. It's given me a massive headache.
The process was often confusing to a sleep sodden, senior citizen's brain but it was worth the effort, although I swear never to do it again. I do like swearing so.
There is a fundamental difference between the two major Maconga-based talk shows.
Krok is a low class, vulgar screamer who abuses the grammar of the English language, delights in telling lies and half-truths, makes false claims about his own piety and integrity, and tends to ride an issue into the ground. Kenny and Charles are clearly a quantum leap up in gentility, class, and basic humanity.
But it is the callers, the folks who can't wait to express a pet idea over the airwaves, I listened to most carefully. Since Krok seems to have alienated many of his potential Black listeners, folks who call in to WMAC tend to be white, undereducated, simple souls who mean well but can't or don't think very much beyond their end of their noses. They are largely born and bred Maconites who have strong racial feelings and smack more than a little of, shall we say, red-neck roots.
Krok goes for long intervals without a single call. Wonder how many are actually listening to him.
Those who call in to Kenny and Charles are better-educated, much more racially diverse, and have a broader world view.
Think I remember predicting this exact thing in the very early Krok Days. That kid needs to seek a broader based listening audience.

Chris “Insane” Krok wasted the better part of the week's broadcast time trying to convince local Wesleyan College to renege on its promise to present an award to long-time Macon Councilwoman, Elaine Lucas.
The Krokster pulled out all his stops: urging his small band of blind but obedient followers to inundate the College's President, administration, trustees, and local supporters with phone calls and emails demanding the award, given to honor Black leaders of the local community for their service, be pulled.
It didn't work. Elaine received her award yesterday evening. An article in the local T'GRAPH said, in part:
Wesleyan also recognized the following community leaders: retired Wesleyan College professor Catherine Meeks, retired Bibb County public school educator Gail Fowler, high risk obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Joyce A. Rawls, entrepreneurs Camille and Marshall Hughes, Macon City Councilwoman Elaine H. Lucas, educator and local housing expert Reginald Bell, master cosmetologist Rhonda Gordon, social worker and community activist Joseph Andrews, mentor and educator Mattie Ruth Lovett and Bibb County Chief Magistrate Judge William C. Randall.
Apparently Mr. Krok not only underestimates the amount of influence he has in this community, but also understands very little about how to influence college and university presidents.

I sure hope poor Mr. Krok has learned a thing or two about the care and feeding of college presidents in small cities.

It's Stowing"
So said my little sister, age two, more than fifty years ago.
That was a chilly October day in Upstate New York.
It's 'Stowing' this afternoon in Maconga. Might even get enough of an accumulation to
close down schools tomorrow..
Hope so. Snow Days were minor miracles when I was growing up, had a couple, few every year. Sometimes more. These Southern Kiddies rarely miss school for snow. It is as if they are somehow deprived children, deprived of a fundamental right of kiddiehood.
Time to walk down to the local Kroger and watch neighbors in panic-buy mode.. A guy can't have too much toilet paper or milk on hand, can he?
Poor chaps can't buy beer on Sunday in this state.
