HOTLINING:
DECLINE AND FALL
OF THE UNITED STATES SENATE

”And, as Sessions suggested, that's just how many in the Senate like it. The leadership likes to "get things done" without all the constitutional bother of debate and voting. Rank-and-file senators themselves like things done without them bothering to . . . bother at all. Besides, if someone complains, he (or she) can just say, "Well, I was out that day." Can't stand by the phone every minute!

Ever hear of ‘hotlining’?

No, it’s not a new way for an individual to take drugs. It is, rather, an exercise within the United States Senate that allows that once distinguished body of ‘statesmen’ to pass legislation without debate just as long as the Majority and Minority Leaders are in agreement.

You can access this most excellent column by Paul Jacob at IS THE U.S. SENATE THE WORLD’S GREATEST DELIBERATIVE BODY, OR MERELY A HUNDRED LILY TOMLINS WAITING FOR THE PHONE TO RING

It was found in this morning's TOWN HALL

And the bastards wonder why the congressional approval rating stands at an all-time low of eleven per cent.

LIBERALS
and
PARENTING

”Conservative parents teach disciplined behavior so that in their children's private world they do not bring harm to themselves, and in public they do not bring harassment, discomfort or harm to others. The benefit of learning to be quiet at some times and places, helps a child to enjoy the exuberance of playtime later. Teaching a child not to touch everything they see, gives them self-control and prevents them from breaking things they should not have grabbed in the first place. Saying "no" when they reach for a hot pan on the stove, may seem rather harsh, scolding, and even angry - but in the end it has saved them from immense pain!

This is taken from one of two TOWN HALL articles that caught my eye this morning.

Despite the fact it is laced with Christian preconceptions, it is worth looking at. It deals with parenting, ‘liberals’, the latest Democrat debate, and a hefty dose of morality.

What drew me to it was a half-remembered dinner conversation at the home of a friend, a Baptist preacher, father of six young children. One of his brood was on the receiving end of some rod unsparing as I showed up for supper one night. His crime? I don’t remember. Maybe never knew. The conversation over an excellent meal turned naturally to child rearing. The little culprit joined in obviously none the worse for wear.

And what came out of that dialogue was the simple fact that there was far more agreement in parenting methods between my friends’, deeply steeped in their literal, Biblical world view and mine, which meant bringing up churchless kids as an atheist, with a solid dose of common sense and old-fashioned morality including a central notion that there is absolute good and absolute evil to be found all around us.

I cringe when I hear phrases like, “morality comes from the Bible”. True, there is much in the Bible that is ‘moral’, but most of what we call morality is also found in societies that scripture barely penetrated. When human beings band together, they need bonds to guide them in their dealings with one another.

What we have here more specifically is a column written by Kevin McCullouch that takes as its jumping off place the responses given by Democratic presidential front-runners to the question of exposing young children to homosexuality, or, better, what might be called the ‘homosexual agenda’. You can read it for yourself at WHY LIBERALS MAKE ATROCIOUS PARENTS

Back in my teaching days, I used to tell limp-wristed, confused parents to go home, look in the mirror, and say the word ‘NO’ slowly, distinctly and over and over until it became second nature.

Sometimes it worked.

DICK MORRIS ON
PULLING AMERICAN MONEY OUT OF IRAN

”The Iranian regime is increasingly unpopular, with stories circulating of clerics afraid to go out in public in their religious attire for fear of being attacked. Financial pressure on the government can be the key element in forcing a change of course. Disinvestment, after all, helped forced South Africa to abandon apartheid. “

The idea isn’t new, but it is gaining in popularity as Dick Morris here notes.

Want to hurt Iran….maybe kick them hard enough in the paunch to slow down or stop altogether their race to nuclear parity? Then divest the billions of dollars Americans and American companies have in Iranian enterprises. The effects could be devastating to the clerical leadership of that nasty little theocracy.

Read it for yourself: ANSWERING A'JAD: DISINVEST, N.Y.!

LET THERE BE NO JOY IN MACON
KAZOO CITY DID STRIKE OUT
FOR LOCALS ONLY
(NOBODY ELSE WOULD WANT TO READ THIS)

It was a great idea.

And it was a noble effort on the part of more than two thousand die-hard Maconites who trekked through the mud of the rain-soaked state fair grounds to Luther Williams Field.

No ball game. No political rally. No monster truck rally. No Elvis impersonators. Nothing good like that drew them lemming-like to this spot.

What the masses assembled to accomplish was simply to set a Guinness record for the most individuals gathered together in one place to play the kazoo in unison.

The kazoo was invented here in Maconga back before the Civil War. The current ensemble record is held by some folks way up in Yankee-land, Rochester, NY to be exact, who sat twenty-six hundred plus strong to ‘Zoo Battle Hymn of the Republic or some such propaganda piece.

The problem at Luther Williams was the rain. A drenching shower an hour earlier turned even some loyal folks away. As I left for a Neighborhood Watch meeting, a joyous troupe of locals, their joy fueled by not a little spiritus frumenti strode purposefully by me, kazoos in hand, ready to take on the mighty Guinness record book.

To no avail. Those present hummed a few ditties including SITTING ON THE DOCK O’ THE BAY, in honor of Native Son, Otis Redding, and TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME, in honor of the ancient minor league stadium, second oldest in the nation, that enveloped them, both drunk and sober.

“Wait till next year, you Rochester Bozos, the kazooing South shall rise again.

TOWARD A MORE PERFECT (?)
CONSTITUTION(?)

”The new Senate, then, would consist of 135 members. This change has an additional advantage. With the population of the United States having expanded dramatically (by almost two thirds, in fact) since the current 100-member Senate was established in 1960, the 35 additional senators can assist in meeting the needs of millions of new Americans in their large states. And the cost to the Treasury is relatively little. The smaller states in the new Senate would, individually and collectively, retain plenty of clout. The difference is that the distorted, decidedly unfair world where the Lilliputians rule the Giants would be dissolved.”

Change the United States Constitution! What?

You mean, “CHANGE THE U.S. CONSTITUTION???” Dayum!!!

That’s just what Larry Sabato wants to do, folks. And even for this aging constitutionalist, he has some excellent ideas.

This is a long piece. It is based on Sabato’s latest book "A MORE PERFECT CONSTITUTION: 23 Proposals to Revitalize our Constitution and Make America a Fairer Country". I like some of the proposals, especially on changing the size of the two houses of congress, and rearranging representation so that more people are represented more fairly. Which was, incidentally, the reasoning behind the document as the Founding Fathers created it.

In many respects the modern congress, through gerrymandering and re-districting, is reminiscent of the 'rotten boroughs' of the early Victorian Parliament.

The current document is not written in stone, although somewhat more so than either the Bible or the Quoran.

Take a few minutes and mull this piece over….then get back to me if you would like. : TOWARD A MORE PERFECT CONSTITUTION Or not.

This article gives us great pause for some serious thinking….and debate

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LEW ROCKWELL
DANIEL ELLSBERG ON THE UPCOMING AMERICAN TOTALITARIANISM

”Let me simplify this and not just to be rhetorical: A coup has occurred. I woke up the other day realizing, coming out of sleep, that a coup has occurred. It’s not just a question that a coup lies ahead with the next 9/11. That’s the next coup, that completes the first.

The last five years have seen a steady assault on every fundamental of our Constitution, … what the rest of the world looked at for the last 200 years as a model and experiment to the rest of the world – in checks and balances, limited government, Bill of Rights, individual rights protected from majority infringement by the Congress, an independent judiciary, the possibility of impeachment.”

So writes none other than Daniel Ellsberg, a key figure in the undoing of the Nixon Administration. It was he who made the so-called PENTAGON PAPERS available to the press and to the public. And that way back in 1971. Ellsberg’s actions, perhaps more than anything else, made it clear that our freely elected government was lying to us, lying through its teeth about the Viet Nam war.

Now, thirty-six years later, an older and wiser whistleblower, one yet still feisty and full of righteous piss and vinegar, makes it clear that under the current D.C. administration, with the almost complete connivance of the legislative branch, we are in the midst of a political revolution...a ‘coup’ he calls it.

The first part of said coup was the erosion of civil rights following 9/11 coupled with the establishment of new institutions and straight jackets the government has now put in place to go into effect following the next terror attack on American soil. That is the second ‘coup’….the elimination of personal freedoms and the expansion of the central government’s power to a point only dreamed of by Adolph Hitler and his cadre of jack-booted thugs. So great have been the technological advances that will one day be the instruments of our own enslavement.

This document is a speech Mr. Ellsberg delivered earlier this month at American University. I found it on a recent LEW ROCKWELL You may access it directly at A COUP HAS OCCURRED

Be careful, this speech might just scare the pants off you. Did me.

DICK MORRIS ON
REAL QUESTIONS TO ASK HILLARY
notes from the wussification of the America Media

” Even for her, Hillary Clinton showed tremendous skill at batting aside questions asked of her on the Sunday shows this past weekend and giving, instead, her standard talking points. Pinning this lady down is admittedly not easy. Two of the best interviewers on political TV — Chris Wallace and Tim Russert — asked tough questions but got scripted and memorized retorts for their pains. But here are some questions (along with follow-ups) that I suggest they ask during the next round of Sunday shows — if she ever goes back on the circuit. “

So begin’s Dick Morris delightful column on questions news pundits ought to be asking Ms. Clinton the next time she makes the circuit of Sunday Morning News-Entertainment shows.

This is Morris at his acerbic best…for his was long a Clintonista himself, a confidant, a member of the inner circle. He knows Hillary as well as anyone can…..or maybe ‘should’.

A great little read….check it out for yourself at DINNER WITH HILLARY: TALKING POINTS FOR THE NEXT ROUND

It first appeared on THE HILL and will most likely show up on TOWN HALL before the end of the week.

TIPPICANOE
and
MILDEW, TOO

As some of you know, much of this week has been ‘consumed’ (wasted) because my little apartment shipped some major H2O…one freshet from a flood through the adjacent garage, a second, a leftover, from a driving rain days earlier that soaked a corner of the living room and wasn’t discovered until the mold started to build in.

Wow…what a mess. Reminded me of some of the floods Rob and I used to have to deal with at the late (and lamented) CELLAR…our restaurant/club/bar at 401 Cherry Street where the twin art forms of jazz and blues could be heard almost any night of the week. We suffered major flooding and loss of business several times a year. Hope things are better for the new owners…..but they have not experienced any real rain yet.

Clean-up has kept me from my appointed b’logging rounds. The process has been slow and messy but there is a positive spin on the story. Attacking the mildew head on has started to clear up what has been a nagging ache in my chest visited upon me all summer long. Conclusion, the ‘dew was worse than imagined and would have done some serious damage had it not been wiped out with skill, cunning, elbow grease, and lots of Clorox.

The new TV season is upon us…my favorite shows, all crime dramas with lettered names like CSI and NCIS (or is it NICS?), CSI TOLEDO, and DUMBASS will soon occupy a small amount of evening time. Other stuff I won’t pay much attention to….you can take your phony reality shows and do with them as I would like.

Bill O’Reilly is in trouble with the Soros folks….and CNN and NBC. Apparently he was surprised that a black owned restaurant in Harlem was as good and as well-run as white owned places to eat. And it ain’t all soul food either!!! Maybe he just had a hankering for some down Dixie fried chicken and was forced to eat escargots.

See you tomorrow!!!

MIKE ADAMS
PAIN

”When C.S. Lewis said that pain is God’s megaphone to a deaf world, he was reminding us that there really is no greater motivator for change. I am pleased that I was given John Burke’s book in a year during which I have suffered an unprecedented amount of pain. The portions on our attitudes towards other religions and towards homosexuals have given me cause to consider some changes I need to make in my rhetoric as a public commentator.

You probably have to be a Christian to appreciate fully this column by our old friend Mike Adams. He is, a Christian; I am not. But I do have respect for much of the convoluted experience that is religion, especially that which aims at the fulfillment of personal spirituality, or the betterment of the human condition.

Professor Adams takes a close look at a volume written by an old friend and finds it, after a couple of readings, a very important document in his journey toward self understanding. Take a look at it here: NO PERFECT PEOPLE ALLOWED

Pain in one's life is a force for change. Mike has had a rough year.

The piece appeared yesterday in TOWN HALL

DICK MORRIS ON
LAURA INGRAHAM'S LATEST

“Science has even taken the place of child-rearing. Is your kid too wild? Is he a boy? Then drug him. An estimated one million school children in Texas alone have been prescribed Ritalin. Why wait until he’s six to redesign your child with drugs?

Hmmmmm. Sounds familiar.

This Morris column is basically a book review of Laura Ingraham’s latest output, POWER TO THE PEOPLE. It is a review by excerpt….fascinating excerpts….excerpts that make me (at least) want to purchase it as soon as possible.

Check it out for thyself at THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING LAURA (INGRAHAM) and then purchase if so motivated.

PROBLEMS AT THE GEORGIA MUSIC HALL OF FAME?

(I hadn't planned to make an entry this day....fighting an uphill battle here with flood, leak, and mold....mold above all. But a phone call late this afternoon from 'a source'.....a damned good source, reliable and thoroughly trustworthy) needs to be shared.)

This source, very agitated, told me that Malvina Spence, the last remaining Black working at the GEORGIA MUSIC HALL OF FAME was given the choice of resigning or being let go. Apparently she took the former route.

The why of this sudden and unexpected move is not immediately clear. Malvina is well-versed in Georgia musical history and appears to have been a credit to the institutioon.

The GMHF does not seem to being doing very well down there in 'the museum district'. In fact, the museum district doesn't seem to be thriving these days. Most frequently when yours truly cruises by between 2:00 mand 3:00 in the afternoon the Music Hall of Fame pareking lots boasts rarely more than six or eight cars. The Childrens' museum is now open only part time. The new Tubman is yet to be completed.

I would like to see the paid attendance figures for these facilities....month by month since their erection.

When the Hall oif Fame opened more than a decade ago, Macon was put on notice that unl;ess the projecdt took off, really took off, it would be moved to Atlanta or Athens, where it probably belonged anyway, Athens is the center of far more music and musical innovation than our little city currently is.

Now the last African American has left the Hall. Doesn't seem to make much sense in a state where your best musicians have been black....hard working and dedicated. ....men and women .

Sad.

Devewloping.

ISRAELI AIR RAID
SYRIAN SILENCE

Riverside Red sent in an interesting article written by Dr. Jack Wheeler, a pundit and blogger with not a few excellent credentials. You can google the fellow as easily as did I.

Several times this week folks have asked me ‘what about the Syrian raid. We know that Israeli planes bombed the be-jesus out of some Syrian military installation. They aren’t talking, the Syrians are mum, and scarcely a word is to be found in the American Media, our own Fourth Estate.

Why? Why the silence? Wheeler offers some mighty tempting suggestions. It is particularly gratifying to me because I was arrested and detained briefly by the Syrian military for walking into an Anti Aircraft installation in the early sixties. Let me assure you that it was all innocent on my part and my three years of high school French served me well during interrogation.

DAVID CORR
MACON’S BEST-KNOWN LIBERTARIAN
RUNNING FOR SITY COUNCIL

Twice this week, first on WMAC morning radio and later in a televised event at City Hall, Libertarian David Corr announced his intention to run for the Ward II, Post 1 Macon City Council seat currently held by James Timley.

It will be an uphill battle since Timley is a two-term veteran of the Council Wars and was unopposed earlier this year in the primary. Corr ran against incumbent Mayor C. Jack Ellis four years ago and garnered more than twenty-five % of the total vote, an astounding figure since he ran as a write-in candidate. The local (and sometimes craven) GOP ran nobody in opposition to Hizzoner.

While Timley is probably unassailable in his home district, the Ward II, Post 1 position is a Macon-wide context and the fight will be waged in all quarters of the city. This will work to Mr. Corr’s advantage. A proven vote getter, he is repeating the strategy of running as a write-in, a process simplified with new voting machines. The process of avoiding a primary not only saves the Corr campaign money in fees and early electioneering, but at a time when November’s city results seem foredoomed by the primaries, a new element of excitement is being generated that will bring Corr supporters out in droves.

David stands a damn good chance of unhorsing the incumbent.

Why? Simple….two reasons. The first, Macon is in the throes of ‘throw the bums out fever’. There will be several new faces on the horseshoe in a few months. Timley’s tenure is seen largely as a extension of the sitting mayor and his agenda. The Councilman is Ellis’ personal go-to guy within the Gang of Fifteen, a singular fact which will prove devastating in many precincts of the city come November.

Second, and far more important, David Corr is widely viewed hereabouts as a man of principle, character, and great personal integrity. He is a outspoken proponent of lower taxes and reduced government spending. He believes in smaller government on all levels and increased individual responsibility.

Specifically he pledges that he will:

Oppose property tax hikes and work to reduce all taxes.

Oppose all legislation restricting individual rights and liberties.

Work to eliminate or reduce spending on non-essential items.

Work to reduce violent crimes and property crimes.

Personally I stand in strong support of David Corr and endorse his candidacy with the enthusiasm of a long-time voter who relishes the possibility of an end to business as usual in Macon’s City Hall.

Check out David’s website at http://davidcorr.org

SPEAKING OF CHINA

Many years ago, when I lived and taught in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, I used to do radio.

To be exact, I hosted two weekly programs on a local FM station...both featuring grand opera, still my favorite music.

I got fired. Since it was a small station with almost no staff, the host or commentator was required to read the news as it came off a noisy, old-fashioned, teletype machine. It was, in those pre-computer days, called 'rip and read'.

The reason for my abrupt dismissal was that i kept mispronouncing the geo-political term Fukien Province of the Peoples' Republic of China.

Never could get that damn word right.

THE SAVING UH, ER, UM FACE DEPARTMENT
MATTEL:
"BEND OVER, CHINA, AND WE'LL GLADLY KISS IT"

A senior Mattel official has apologized.

Not to the U.S. public, but to the Chinese people, its government, and its business community.

Why? Because of rash of recent toy recalls.

"It was all our fault....not yours....the problem was a design flaw."

Design flaw? That's right, a design flaw that caused the toys to be layered with lead paint.

Doing business with China causes even American business to walk a tightrope.

Of course we wouldn't have the problem if we didn't export jobs to Beijing, would we?

DICK MORRIS ON
HILLARYCARE

”But the main defect of Hillary's program is that it leaves out any attempt at cost control. With health care absorbing 16 percent of our economy, Bill Clinton's warnings of economic disaster if its share of our national income passed 12 percent back in 1993 sound almost quaint today. Cost control is a vital part of any plan for universal coverage. Indeed, without it, extending coverage just offers a blank check to patients and providers which would drive even higher the share of our economy that goes to health care. “

Clearly Dick Morris at his very best.

This column serves as an indictment of “Hillarycare” the new health care plan outlined (and only outlined) scant days ago by the woman who would be president.

And it falls short…very short of being something this nation needs or really wants.

We all know that ‘health care’ needs some “fixin’”, but we need not toss the kid out with the bath water. Her plan, for instance, includes extending health care to illegal aliens. There are many other pitfalls in the scheme and Mr. Morris hits them all…and hard.

That Morris was working for the Clintons when Hernibs concocted her 1993 health plan gives him great insight into the morphings of her mind and the machinations behind the public persona. This is the same woman who charmed the shorts off of Joe Scarborough (MORNING JOE…MSNBC) earlier in the week.

So read and weep and act….above all act. Your government (on all levels) will own us if you if we do not own it. THE DARK SIDE OF HILLARY CLINTON'S HEALTH CARE PLAN

A LITTLE HUMOR FROM NEAL BOORTZ

This in from THE BOORTZ BLAST (newsletter) this morning.

Hillary Clinton vs. God

Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Al Gore were in an airplane that crashed. They're up in heaven, and God's sitting on the great white throne. God addresses Al first.

"Al, what do you believe in?"

Al replies, "Well, I believe that the combustion engine is evil and that we need to save the world from CFCs and that if any more freon is used, the whole earth will become a greenhouse and we'll all die."

God thinks for a second and says "Okay, I can live with that. Come and sit at my left."

God then addresses Bill. "Bill, what do you believe in?"

Bill replies, "Well, I believe in power to the people. I think people should be able to make their own choices about things and that no one should ever be able to tell someone else what to do. I also believe in feeling people's pain."

God thinks for a second and says "Okay, that sounds good. Come and sit at my right."

God then address Hillary. "Hillary, what do you believe in?"

"I believe you're in my chair."

SENATOR CECIL STATON
vs
THE MACON TELEGRAPH

Received an email containing the following letter from STATE SENATOR CECIL STATON.

The Macon Telegraph, long a foe of the Senator's VOTER I.D. legislation, now law in the Peach State, has said some rather negative things about the good legislator and won't, it appears, print his reply.

We do so here gladly and without seeking either favor or reward.

Unlike Macon's 'paper of whatever' we think the law cuts down on the potential for election fraud and irregularity.

Eat your heart out, Chuck.

Read on!!!!!:

As you are aware, the Macon Telegraph continues to attack me because of
my photo id bill that has now survived challenges in both state and
federal court. Their most recent attack has been that I have failed to
attack the real fraud, in their view, that exists in the absentee
balloting process. In reality, I introduced and we passed two bills on
absentee balloting that are now the law in Georgia.

I responded to their editorial with the following, which they have thus
far not run in the paper. For this reason I am asking that you send
this
out to the Bibb and Houston County party email family so that they will
know that I have attempted to respond and so that they will have the
facts and the truth.

Thanks.

A LONG DAY IN MACON POLITICS

It's late and I'm tired.

Tomorrow or the next day I will gladly share my experiencesa today (1) at the luncheon held at the posh City Club to kick off Maurice Atkinson's campaign for County Commissioner and (2) David Corr's city hall news conference at which he declared himself a write-in candidate for the Ward 4, Post 1 city council seat.

Both experiences were uplifting and left me with more hope for the future of this community than I have had in many a moon.

The high point was clearly the appearance of Herman Cain, who gave a powerful speech at the luncheon. I recorded it and might transcribe portions for this b'log. I would work on behalf of any campaign this man might choose to enter, including that of president of the United States, up to the hour and minute of my own death. So great a human being is he.

More later....but one amusing incident. Some of you know I tutor a couple of kids. Today I brought with me 'Max', an eight-year-old whose language arts skills are rapidly improving.. Now Max is something of a good old boy and was unused to the protocols of formal dining. As a result he didn't get enough in his belly even at the sumptuous City Club buffet.

To make a long story as terse as possible....Max filled up at the Cotton Ave. Nu-Way after we left the formal meal. Kids know what they like.

Until tomorrow.

DAVID CORR DECLARES

About an hour ago, on 940 radio, Macon's best-known Libertarian announced that he was mounting a write-in campaign for the City Council Ward 2 post 1 slot currently held by James Timley.

Mr. Corr ran a write-in contest agains C. Jack Ellis four years ago and pulled a surprising 27% of the votes.

This time David will be running city-wide, which means that he now can draw strength from the entire community.

Timley is vulnerable. Not in his own ward, but in the larger community. He is widely viewed as being in Mayor Ellis' pocket, voting (usually) in accordance with Hizzoner's wishes. This is the year to 'throw the bums out', replacing familiar faces who might have outlived their usefulness in city government. Corr is likely to be seen as a fresh face with fresh ideas.

Corr has a website at http://www.davidcorr.com

This will be an interesting campaign. To win Timley needs to reach beyond his comfort zone which I do not think he can do.

FROM LEW ROCKWELL
A TRIBUTE TO
DAD

’He eventually became too busy to do the music anymore – he was actually a professor of history and education – and reluctantly resigned. The church hired a music director at a high salary, $45,000 a year, as I recall. He asked the deacons of the church why, if they were willing to do that, had they never offered to pay for his services. "You never asked," they said.’

Don’t bother to read this delightful little piece found this morning on LEW ROCKWELL if you are not a Father or don’t intend to become one or are of other gender persuasion.

Unless of course you are something of a ‘character’, or ‘eccentric’, one of those screw-loose oddballs who make society far more interesting than our politicians or pundits can. Then gender doesn’t matter and you can read Jeffrey Tucker’s article for yourself.

But please, if you are one of those tight-ass Americans of any sex who obsess about image, the ‘right’ school for your kids, whom to invite to the next soiree, just go away, quietly please, mad or not.

The rest of you read this delightful tribute to a guy vaguely familiar to us all. It’s called simply DAD

HERMAN CAIN TOMORROW
coming to Macon in support of
MAURICE ATKINSON

I will be hitting the City Club tomorrow noon along with local photographer Mark Thompson to cover the Luncheon (click MORE) and fundraiser for Maurice Atkinson. The big attraction is Herman Cain, who should be Georgia's current sitting senator and not the good-old-boy glad hander we have in Johnny Isaacson.

We'll do a write up on this tomorrow and hope to have some professional pictures exclusive to this b'log.

You know my opinion of Herman Cain if you have read this b'log with any degree of regularity. He is a great American in every respect, a great man, a great human being.

GREENSPAN ON CAVUTO
MEGA MARKET MOVEMENT

"Market Rally" doesn't do justice to what happened today on Wall Street justice.

As of this moment (roughly 4:30 PM) The Dow Industrial average rose a stunning 336 points; the NASDAQ soared 70, and the broader markets responded accordingly. The Federal Reserve, you see, dropped dropped the interest rate a full half point.

What does this mean? From where I sit it means in the long run that American consumers and business will go forth and purchase on credit even more things that they do not need or, probably, won't want in six months or a year.

We are spending ourselves, folks, into a recession. It will come....I don't know when, neither do you. But come it shall.

Click MORE, well, uh, more.

STUDENT TAZERED AT KERRY RALLY

Here is a poignant little piece sent in by a regular reader (and commentator on the human condition). It first appeared on the Fox News Website. The chap who sent it in said he didn't know whether to laugh or sigh, and that's about right. Was the kid drunk, stoned, or merely clueless?....what about the violent raction of the campus fuzz force? Long winded free speech anyone? Maybe John Kerry doesn't like to answer questions these days.

See for yourself....

University of Florida Student Tasered, Arrested During John Kerry Forum

Monday , September 17, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. —

A University of Florida student was Tasered and arrested Monday when he attempted to speak at a forum with U.S. Sen. John Kerry during a question and answer session, university officials said.

Andrew Meyer, 21, asked Kerry why he did not contest the 2004 presidential election, which he lost to President Bush, and why there had been no moves to impeach Bush.

"He apparently asked several questions — he went on for quite awhile — then he was asked to stop," university spokesman Steve Orlando said. "He had used his allotted time. His microphone was cut off then he became upset."

While as many as four police officers tried to remove Meyer from the forum, he yelled for help and asked "What did I do?" Minutes after Meyer started speaking, he was Tasered.

Meyer was charged with resisting an officer and disturbing the peace, according to Alachua County jail records. No bond had been set. Meyer was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning, a jail official said.

Orlando said university police would conduct an internal investigation on the incident.

"The police department does have a standard procedure for when they use force, including when they use a Taser," Orlando said. "That is what the internal investigation would address — whether the proper procedures were followed, whether the officers acted appropriately."

The event was sponsored by the UF student government speaker's bureau, according to a news release. A telephone message left at the speaker's bureau office was not immediately returned Monday evening.

It was not known if Meyer had an attorney.

NEW MINNEAPOLIS TOURIST ATTRACTION
THE CRAIG CRAPPER

It was bound to happen.

And it won't do the GOP much good in any upcoming elections. You remember the GOP...that's the political party which stresses something called 'family values'. This is the gang that would have us believe it stands four square for god, country, and grits but has too many leaders doin' more than smokin' in the boys' room.

I found this little article on Drudge this morning which links back to a story in the IDAHO STATESMAN But it seems that the toilet stall, once allegedly used by Senator Craig for the solicitation of homosexual favors has turned into a major tourist attraction in Minneapolis.

I think we shall hear jokes about stalls, wide stances, and playing footsie for a long time to come.

Me, I say throw all the GOP bums out, and while we're at it, throw the Dem bums out as well.

We may not be able to fool all of the people all of the time, but the D.C. leadership, both White House and Congress, is making a pretty damn good run at it.

MIKE ADAMS ON
SUSPENDING OUR DISBELIEF
THE PINO AFFAIR, continued

Furthermore, the department chair Marty mentioned in the form-denial has previously contradicted the statements of your administration. Shortly after administrators said Pino never contributed to the violent, anti-Semitic blog “Global War,” the chair went public with an admission that he knew that Pino had, in fact, written for “Global War.” That Kent State is so inept at covering up for an anti-Semitic traitor really requires the willing suspension of disbelief.

It’s Mike Adams, Professor Mike Adams, in full frontal attack, damning the torpedoes, the university’s administration, and Professor Pino’s threats of jihad.

Remember the Pino affair, the Kent State U. Professor who advocates suicide bombings by children to kill Jews and who claims that the destruction caused on 9/11 was the right thing to do? Last week Professor Mike asked us to send emails to the Provost at Kent State. Allarently many did. This week he received a reply from said provost…but it wasn’t really a reply, it was a form letter written by some administrative assistant. Form letters just don’t cut the mustard when a man of Adam’s stature invites a jihadist to go wild hog hunting in South Carolina, does it?

This column is Adams’ reply. And it’s a good one. It appeared this morning in the regular TOWN HALL slot and can be directly accessed at THE WILLING SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF

This column is well worth reading. Maybe it will stir you to write the Kent State provost yourself.

I surely shall.

A BOY NAMED
HSU

The embarrassing political donations to prominent Democrats by none other than convicted ponzi-ite and fugitive Norman Hsu ought to be a gift that keeps on giving to Republicans who now have some ammunition to counter the often accurate charge that the GOP is the party of sleaze.

But I do not see the brethern of the Party of the Imperial Pachyderm taking any advantage of what ought to be a juicy situation.

For the record and according to the Wall Street Journal the following well-known pols have received major largesse from Mr. Hsu:

Hillary Clinton….the big winner ($850,000 smackers)
Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy
Illinois Sen. Barack Obama
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson
Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry
Minnesota Senatorial candidate Al Franken
Florida Sen. Bill Nelson
West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein
Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy
Former Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford
Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack
Nevada Sen. Harry Reid
Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin
New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell
California Sen. Barbara Boxer

Let's see if Republicans can use this information to their advantage or, maybe, they have too much to hide in respect to political donations sequestered in their own backyard.

HERMAN CAIN
THIS WEDNESDAY

Quick reminder that Herman Cain will be in town at the Macon City Club, Wednesday, September 19th.

He will host a luncheon-funderaise on behalf of Maurice Atkinson, running for commission and an all-around hell of a good guy.

Herman cain is unique....he is also the single thing traditional liberals hate and fear the most, and fail completely to unserstandt: Mr. Cain is a successful, Black, entrepreneur turned politician who has landed the top job in multiplel corporate boardrooms by dint of hard work, superb ability, excellent training, and faith in himself.

Mr. Cain is not the product of a Nannygate government's handout, of so-called 'affirmative action', or a welfare program preaching that the minority citizen is somehow inferior and thus requires an extra leg up to achieve his fair share of the American Dream. He's a real 'up by the bootstraps' guy.

Herman Cain stands as one of the finest, most dynamic perople I have ever met.

Sure looking forward to Wednesday. Hope to see many of you there.

FROM LEW ROCKWELL
3:10 TO YUMA
THE BEST MOVIE REVIEW I EVER READ

”The dialog is clever and crisp. The writers neglected only one thing: plausibility. Every scene stands on its own merits, and each is arguably more implausible than the last. In this sense, 3:10 to Yuma may become a screenwriter's classic, moving from scene to scene like an accelerating tidal wave of implausibility. The ending is without a doubt the most implausible I ever recall in any film, ever, western or not – a veritable crescendo of "What was that all about?"
The credits of 3:10 to Yuma should have closed with a dedication to the memory of the writer-director who was clearly the spiritual godfather of this movie: Ed Wood.”

Did I say ‘best’ movie review? Maybe make that second best. I kind of remember TIME MAGAZINE’S reviewing TORA TORA TORA decades ago as, simply, “TORRABLE! TORRABLE!! TORRABLE!!!”

But this review by Gary North, found today on LEW ROCKWELL DOT COM is the most penetrating, take-0no-prisoners analysis of what has to be one of the smugly over-rated, self-important, stupidly-hyped movie of our generation.

And I haven’t even seen the damn thing. Guess I can wait until USA or TNT picks it up in a few months.

Here are just three examples of Mr. North’s synopsis of what might be loosely called ‘the plot’.

O. J.
REFLUX*

Just got back from a dinner out....flipped on the boobus toobus to Hannity and Colms...and found a screaming match.

The argument? Not the Iraq war but whether O.J. was guilty of stealing back the suit he wore when acquitted. This from a Los Vegas hotel room.

Seriously, this is media hype that makes Brit Spears' little pot belly, diminutive love handles, and lackluster MTV showing seem like something earth shaking. Hard news? What's hard news? Wonder why our kids are so stupid....they need to be entertained all the time.

The state of modern 'news reporting' is more than enough to make Edward R. Murrow* turn over in his grave.

from the
AMERICAN CONGRESS FOR TRUTH
THE RADICAL MUSLIM PLAN TO DESTROY AMERICA AS WE KNOW IT

”The process of settlement [of Islam in the United States] is a "Civilization-Jihadist" process with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that all their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" their miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny except for those who choose to slack.

Don’t think radical Muslim are out to take over the U.S.? The entire word? Replacing our constitution with medieval Sharia law? Have we got news for you!!! It has been going on a hell of a lot longer than any D.C. administration has dared admit.

Brigitte Gabriel of the American Congress for Truth cites an article by Rod Dreher, columnist and editorial writer for the DALLAS MORNING NEWS written about a documented plan “to conquer the U.S. and turn it into a Caliphate”.

Powerful stuff this. The entire article can be found on our site simply by clicking more. Here you will find excerpts from the Dreher piece as well as a link to the original.

Anybody who does not see that there is a radical element within Islam that aims at nothing more or less than world domination is deaf, dumb, blind, or overly political correct. Of course this does not mean that all Muslims are of this mindset, But there are enough who are or who are terrified by the extremists that they, like the ‘good’ German people in the middle 1930’s are cowed into silence.

DID JULIO PINO, SEND THIS EMAIL TO MIKE ADAMS?
DEALING WITH A RADICAL MUSLIM PROFESSOR
LOCKED AND LOADED

”As a result of a) incompetence, b) apathy, or c) both (on behalf of the FBI and the State of Ohio) Julio Assad Pino is feeling confident again. And, apparently, he now feels brave enough to send me messages on 911 saying that the attacks on New York and Washington were justified according to his religion of mass murder and racism.

Clearly, a strong response is warranted.”

A few days ago, Professor Mike Adams received an email filled with hate and venom toward the west allegedly from professor Julio Assad Pino whom Adams describes as, “Professor Julio Pino of Kent State University. Pino is a Muslim extremist who advocates the mass murder of Jews while drawing a paycheck from the hard-working people of the great state of Ohio.” The pair have been at odds, war, rather, for some time.

Mike has tried very hard to ascertain whether Pino is actually the author of the diatribe which is quoted in excerpted form in today’s TOWN HALL column. So far he has gotten nowhere.

So…going a step further he calls up some big guns for help….talk show folks: “” I would like to request (respectfully) that my four favorite radio talk show hosts – Neal Boortz, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Jim Quinn – take the time to read these excerpts on the air some time this afternoon.”

I have better things to do than listen to Limbaugh or Hannity, and I don’t even know who Jim Quinn is, but Neal Boortz is a favorite of mine who appeals to my Libertarian side. His show this week has been hosted by another favorite, Herman Cain, who will be in Macon next Wednesday and is invited to my house for a wee drop or a cup of coffee. We urge Herman to support professor Adams.

So, boys and girls, we have our work cut out for us. Mike’s piece contains links to Pino and Kent State U. inviting a mass email campaign from us in the grassy roots. Read the entire piece at: PINO 911 and get to work helping the good professor get down to the bottom of this email.

Or just read it for fun. It might make your blood boil a little. Did mine.

Ciao

MOVING ON
THE GENERAL BETRAY US
AD

Wow. Talk about deep discounting.

The once vaunted NEW YORK TIMES this weeked charged "moveon dot org" an ultra left blog, largely funded by Transylvanian-Born socialist George Soros*, a mere $65.00 for a full-page ad that the rest of us would have to pony up $181, 000. That's almost a two thirds discount. Sort of like getting a three hundred thousand buck house for a mere one hundred thou. Or four buck Starbucks milkshake for less than a lousy buck forty.

That means a few Maconites, could take out a NYT ad and tell our mayor to get lost.

Naw...that wouldn't work. Probably not a dozen folks in Bibb county who read the TIMES...that TIMES, anyway.

Was it a charity discount? Probably not. the NYT needs money more than moveondotorg which can always dig deeper into Soros' hip pocket. Deep discounting is not always good business.

I used to read the NEW YORK TIMES. Used to. I'm part of its decline in circulation. Even had the Sunday Times mailed directly from NYC every week. Heady stuff for a school teacher in Maconga.

What's happening over at THE TIMES? I donno...but it's ikinda creepy.

*Singlehandedly the best argument going for tighter immigration laws.

b>
HERE’S A MAN
AFTER MY VERY OWN
SECOND AMENDMENT
HEART

Tuesday, September 11, 2007, I celebrated freedom in the best way possible. I bought a gun.

It’s not just any gun. It is the gun. I bought an M1A. A Springfield Armory M1A, a .308 caliber rifle. A rifle that shoots a bullet that has more energy after the bullet flies 300 yards than an M16/AR-15 has at its muzzle.

Written by some lunatic gun nut?

Some out of control Bubba in a self-proclaimed militia unit somewhere in a snake-infested southern swamp?

Hardly. The writer is Greg Perry, market research guru and self confessed staunch supporter of our individual right to ‘keep and bear arms’.

What he wrote here is an excellent piece, one that stands up to the nanny state boys and girls who would deprive us of our firearms “because, Ralphie, you might put your eye out.”

Great article I found in my daily dose of LEW ROCKWELL You can read the entire thing here: WHAT I DID ON 9/11”

Funny about the timing….the UPS guy delivered a SKS, used but refurbished, rifle to me on 9/11. A Yugoslavian SKS…just like the one mentioned in the article.

Keep shooting and don’t forget what the little six-year-old girl from Texas said to her father after he shot a burglar in their house, “Nice Grouping, Daddy!!”

Not all kids today are bad.

SABATO'S CRYSTAL BALL
A QUESTION OF DYNASTY

Most of my readers know that I am a passionate follower of Larry Sabato and his weekly offering, SABATO’S CRYSTAL BALL. Larry is, simply put, a polster’s polster and a pundit’s pundit. He is able, unlike none of the talking heads everywhere found these days in the half-assed media, to bring political trends into perspective and focus.

He raises good questions, offers sane and common sense interpretations of trends, data, and personalities, and hits the mark with near-perfect accuracy.

Among the burning questions discussed this week is that of dynasty. The media, and most voters, have largely ignored the notion that, should her Nibs win in 2008 and repeat in 2012, The United States will have been ruled for twenty-eight* years. More than a quarter of a century, by two families when HRC steps down in 2016.

That should scare the hell out of every one of us.

Mr. Sabato cites the only poll ever taken on the subject…with a sampling of a thousand or so souls. The results are also frightening. When asked, “"If Hillary Clinton is elected President, it would mean at least 24* years of having a member of the Clinton or Bush family as President. In your voting for President, is this a serious consideration, one of many considerations, not much of a consideration, or not a consideration at all?" The replies were:

A serious consideration…………12
One of many considerations……13
Not much of a consideration……20
Not a consideration at all………..54

Hell, if today’s voting public had its way in 1776, we would all be subjects of the goddamned queen of England. Maybe we do not deserve the constitution we have.

Lots more in Larry’s weekly…dynasty is only a start. Read it for yourself: SABATO’S CRYSTAL BALL: Vol. V, Iss. 31

And join me in weeping for the end of the most noble experiment in self-government the world has every known.

*The poll’s data gives Hillary four years in office; we have projected her out to a full eight year term when either Chelsea Clinton or one of Jeb Bush’s kids take over.

DICK MORRIS
AS GOES IOWA
SO GOES NOBODY

”But on the Republican side, the situation is more problematic. Romney’s surge is entirely Rudy Giuliani’s fault. Ineptly, his campaign chose not to advertise early on in Iowa and ceded the airwaves to Romney. Anxious to display the largest cash on hand, Giuliani made a possibly fatal mistake in letting Romney get a large and sustained lead in the first caucus state.”

Mr. Morris takes a look at the presidential candidates heading towards the Iowa Caucus, where leaders are not national leaders, and some pretty sloppy campaign mistakes were made on both sides.

‘Twas once that state’s silly little caucus coupled with the over-rated New Hampshire primary could make or undo a presidential primary campaign. That is no longer true, of course, with the prospect of a kind of ‘national primary’ slated for February, when things ought to be pretty well buttoned up. For instance, as Morris points out, politically any N.H. primary is largely determined by television….and most residents of the Granite State watch Boston TV which is skewed in favor of traditional Boston populist liberalism. How can a poor pundit separate a New Hampshire Democratic primary vote from what is happening next door in the Bay State?

It is an interesting column. Check it out for yourself ay IOWA vs. AMERICA It has appeared twice now, first on THE HILL and lovernight on TOWN HALL

LOWER BOULEVARD NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
MEETING SCHEDULED FOR
SEPTEMBER 27th.

An email from President Merry Bacon informs us that our next Neighborhood is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 on September, 27th.....at the usual location.

Because of some home break-ins up Briarcliff way, we are inviting residents of that street and Laurel as well to attend. This is part of an original plan to start small and expand the coverage of the Watch as needed.

It's needed. The firebombing last month at the upper end of Boulevard should give us all a wake-up call that the barbarian is at the gates and will be in our midst if the gets are not held by the civilized good guys.

SOMETHING ROTTEN IN BIBB COUNTY
The Mystery Grows:
What really happened during the "Special Called Meeting" of Dec 11, 2006

An overnight from Vic Jones contained a single link.

http://www.macon-bibb.com/FHR/FHR_Meeting20070910.htm
When you check it out, you probably have seen the first segment....that we published online here and written by Mr. Jones.

But scroll down to the end and take a close look at what appears to be a misleading change in the minutes of a Commish meeting....something not right here.

Fighting the Forest Hills road widening project is near and dear to my heart. First of all, in a contest between David and Goliath, I always favor the former. Let the 'little guy' whup up on the big, bad, bastard. We are facing in the near future a similar fight over the proposed interchange at I-16/I-75 which will destroy not only entire, secure neighborhoods, but is likely to wipe out the main section of Macon's best resource, the River Walk.

There is, increasingly, an arrogance in government, particularly among the more entrenched bureaucracies. They include the DOT and the GDOT....the Department of Transportation and the Georgia Department of Transportation who seem to have adopted the notion....WE KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU AND WE DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU THINK.

Government without oversight and accountability is nothing other than TYRANNY. We have a right, a duty, to resist tyranny no matter what the source or why the tyrant.

Vic Jones reports on
FOREST HILL PROJECT
at the
BIBB COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

Vic Jones is Macon's most prolific letter writer. Among the projects to which he devotes time and considerable energy is the proposed Forest Hill Rewidening which would, as I look at it anyway, ruin one of Macon's finest neighborhoods.

Many citizens are concerned with what appears to be boot-jack, heavy-handed attempts by the GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION to force compliance with favorite though ill-considered schemes to re-arrange geography, topography, and communities. The Forest Hill propsal is one such. The anticipated I-75 I-16 junction is another.

If you are a Maconite, please click MORE to read Mr. Jones latest broadside. If you are not from here, read it anyway and see for yourself that not everybody goes quietly into the dark night of governmental tyranny.

You can fight city hall, folks. But the operative word is 'fight'....not 'piss, moan, and roll over'.

PROFESSOR MIKE ADAMS ON
BANNING BULLETS TO SUBVERT THE U.S. CONSTITUTION

”There can be no better response to an anti-gun extremist like Gary than to establish a 2nd Amendment club at the local state college or university. And to those who have already done so I would suggest making a funding request to your university for an afternoon’s supply of ammunition. Taking your 2nd Amendment club to the gun range at the taxpayer’s expense will surely get under the skin of your liberal administrators.”

Our friend, Professor (but not FULL PROFESSOR* Mike Adams has come out with a nifty column in which he goes after an entrenched sociology teacher’s absurd proposal which says, roughly, ‘since we can’t outlaw guns according to the Constitution, let’s outlaw bullets.’

The piece is found in this morning’s TOWN HALL newsletter. You can read the whole column at THE SOCIOLOGY OF BALLISTIC IDIOCY

By the way, The Bay State’s very own, Teddy Kennedy, well known lush and lady killer, once proposed putting a tax on ‘every bullet sold in the United States’. Probably met the sociology teacher at a bar somewhere.

*Mike is currently suing his school, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington for not promoting him to ‘full professor’, since he has more than met the requirements, publishing and otherwise, to earn that position. He serves as UNCW’s ‘gad fly’ (‘horse fly’ for those unfamiliar with Jowett’s translations of Plato) in that he (a conservative) enjoys biting the complacent (and liberal) administration on its very pompous ass at every opportunity. I bet Adams is a total hoot at faculty meetings where he is in the decided minority on a campus apparently devoted to radical feminism, diversity (except conservative thinking….can’t have that, can we?), and new-speak where teachers are encouraged to spread the doctrines of socialism and neo-Marxism, while promoting a one size fits all nannystate mentality.

CAT FIGHT
reply to Danny's letter

Do you recall the letter from ten-year-old Danny who wanted to know if 'cat fighting' is as bad as 'dog fighting' in light of the michael vic affair. We invited readers to send answers to the little fellow....and here is the first (and only...so far). Read on!!!

Dear Danny,

Please get your mother or father to show you how to use something called SPELL CHECK when you are writing an email. It makes it easier to read.

Now, first of all, I think we are all very glad that you understand that dog fighting is a very bad thing and is cruel to the animals. Animals need our love. In Macon 93% of the poor animals sent to the city shelter are killed in only a few days. There just isn’t room to take care of all those kittens and puppies.

Cat fighting is not like dog fighting. When we say ‘cat fight’ we really mean a fight between two women or girls. Not a fist fight like with guys, but a fight where they get dirty and pull hair and bite and scratch….just like a couple of real cats do when they fight.

Girls don’t fight like boys who hit with fists, mostly, and kick sometimes. Girls use everything they have. When you parents say, “Don’t ever hit a girl,” they know that if you do, she will knock the snot out of you or scratch you into the ER, which means ‘emergency room’ in a hospital. There you get stitches and a rabies shot.

Also girls are smarter than us. We can never win. In the class room or in a fight.

Then you get older and they nail you for alimony and child support. You live in a one bedroom apartment and she takes the house, the dog, your kids, and all the money you make from three jobs.

Never fight with a girl.

Your Friend,

(Name withheld for obvious reasons)

THE GRAND VOICE STILLED
LUCIANO PAVOROTTI
REQUIESCAT IN PACE
BRAVISSIMO

His voice for much of the cultured world defined Grand Opera for almost forty years.

Not only did he reach his adoring public at places like La Scala and The Metropolitan, but thanks to film and television he was a popular icon as well.

Luciano Pavoritti was blessed with one of those enormous tenor voices, so typically Italian in tone, resonance, timber, and accent that to hear those wonderful pipes was to transport anyone home to the mythic Italy of the singer's youth.

I have a live, taped recording of Mr. Pavorotti's teaming up with Dame Joan Southerland singing the leads in Donizetti's FILLE DU REGIMENT. Sung at the Met in 1972, it remains one of the greates operatic experiences of my entire life. I don't know how long that old reel-to-reel will last, but she still has lots of life in her. Probably more than I do.

Southerland retired years ago, Pavorotti died this week. The sum total of our human, cultural experience dims with his passing.

Earthquake In Mexico

A big earthquake with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter scale hits Mexico.

Two million Mexicans have died and over a million are injured. The country is totally ruined and the government doesn't know where to start with asking for help to rebuild. The rest of the world is in shock.

Canada is sending troopers to help the Mexican army control the riots.

Saudi Arabia is sending oil. Other Latin American countries are sending supplies.

The European community (except France) is sending food and money.

The United States, not to be outdone, is sending two million Mexicans to replace the dead ones.

JPFO v NRA
FAIR AND BALANCED?
YOU DECIDE

Got an alert from the JPFO folks this morning. It follows....pretty sel-explanatory. It is highly critical of an NRA board of directors member who, says JPFO, argues for a five bullet limit in gun magazines. The notice contains several interesting links which, if you are interested in the shooting sports, are important for the discussion.

BUT...click on MORE and see what the NRA has to say on the matter. There you will find a statement by the National Rifle Association and an explanation from the offending director, Joaquin Jackson.

We report, you decide!!!!!

JPFO ALERT: NRA Director Says Five Rounds is Enough

ALERT FROM JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FIREARMS OWNERSHIP
America's Aggressive Civil Rights Organization

JPFO ALERT: NRA Director Says Five Rounds is Enough

That JPFO and the NRA have different views on "gun control" is no secret; you can read our position -- and view supporting evidence -- at http://www.jpfo.org/alert20061211.htm . You can also read an article on the NRA's recent alignment with gun-prohibitionist Carolyn McCarthy at http://www.jpfo.org/smith-nra.htm .

And now, NRA Director Joaquin Jackson has publically stated that magazine capacities should be limited to five rounds and that "assault weapons [sic] should be limited to military or police." That's right -- a director of the supposedly pro-gun NRA wants to take YOUR semi-automatic rifles away.

Don't believe us? Think it's just a rumor? View the evidence for yourself at
http://www.klru.org/texasmonthlytalks/archives/movies/jackson5_44k.mov
(we also have it mirrored on the JPFO site at http://www.jpfo.org/joaquin.mov ).

Already the NRA apologists are coming out of the woodwork. Anyone who points out the hypocrisy of Jackson's position are denounced as "wackos", "black helicopter paranoids," and "just trying to make a buck."

It's time to "Humiliate and Repudiate" Joaquin Jackson and the NRA. Go to http://www.jpfo.org/handbill-joaquin.jpg to see our latest handbill. Print it out and distribute it to those who still believe the NRA is working in the interest of gun owners. They are not.

If you value the truth more than betrayal and want an aggressive defense of your natural and Second Amendment rights, visit http://www.jpfo.org/member.htm to learn how
you can join JPFO. We encourage you to use our "gun control" destroying books and videos ( http://shop.jpfo.org ) and get on board with us today.

FEDERAL JUDGE UPHOLDS GEORGIA ELECTION I.D. LAW

U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy stated today that he would not uphold an injunction to delay further implementing the law.

From this point on, including elections to be held in several counties later this month, to cast a vote Georgians will have to produce a official, sanctioned picture identification card. These include a driver's license, state issued ID, a specially issued voter's card, or military I.D.

Maybe we can now get on with the business of honest voting.

All that's lacking is a paper trail to prove you voted as you think you did.

RON PAUL
REPUBLICAN DEBATE
BIAS

”He faced unethical follow up questions from the moderators and was largely ignored. When he was paid attention, they tried to mock him. Through it all, he stuck to his principles because that is what guides him. When you believe in what you run on you do not need to write it down and read it off of cue cards. Ultimately Ron Paul might be too libertarian for my liking, but when placed in front of the other GOP hopefuls who are fighting over who can blow up the rest of the world most effectively, he is the only light left in a party that continues to fade into darkness.

As I watched the GOP (not so great) DEBATE last night, I was struck by the obvious FOX bias against candidate Ron Paul.

A brief web search found an article written in the moment and with some fire…excellent piece. You can access it here: THE MACHINE TURNS ON RON PAUL The author is a chap named Anthony Wade, a guy much like myself who sees Mr. Paul as the candidate of most extraordinary integrity, although not (yet?) committed to him.

DICK MORRIS’ LATEST
HIT ON HILLARY

”Now she is the bearer of the torch of compromise. If we could believe her conversion was sincere, it would make her less dangerous as a possible president. But it clearly is not. Her newfound desire for compromise is driven by her need to appeal simultaneously to the Democratic base and general electorate. She has to explain to the partisans of the left why she must adopt positions tailored to win the November election on the Iraq war and other issues.”

Boy does Dick Morris ever come out swinging in this column. Read it: HILLARY’S HYPOCRISY which first appeared on THE HILL.

He nails it chapter and verse….from his personal experience with Her Nibs, the current Democratic frontrunner. She claims to be a master of compromise when, in her careers as wife of a sitting president and Senator from New York State, she has actually been stubborn to a fault.

Well worth reading…..plenty of time before the Republican debate later tonight.

ONCE UPON A TIME
TELEVISION REVIEW
BRAVO and A&E

Once upon a time there were two cable networks that dedicated themselves to something called "THE ARTS"

In those long ago days, say back in the reign times of Bush THE FIRST or Clinton THE ONLY SO FAR, Americans could enjoy on demand rare movies, music, opera, and excellent drama all at the turn of a dial. Each of these cable networks formed a solid levee aginst the rising tide of cultural mediocrity.

No longer. In the search for Ratings Almighty each of these once proud institutions has prostituted its original mandate and now features rerun crime drama from the major networks and reality television, above all reality TV. They are now awash with bounty hunting dogs, dysfunctional families, wannabe chefs, hairdressers, anorexic models-in-training and a parade of has-been hollywoodies whose careers tanked decades back. Bravo has discovered that there is gold in that thar homosexuality.

To quote my grandchildren, both networs 'suck'.

To echo the late Newton Minnow, "Television is still a vast wastelands."

THE CONCLUSION OF MIKE ADAMS' SERIES
MICE AND MORMONS
OH, MY!!!

”In December 2006, Professor Trepper, who had previously questioned Mr. West’s sensitivity on matters related to sex, lost his position as professor in the master’s program as a result of allegations of harassment. During the investigation, several students were interviewed about their interactions with Trepper, and these questions focused on issues of harassment and sexual harassment. As a result of this investigation, Professor Trepper can no longer teach graduate students, and can no longer serve on the thesis committees for graduate students.”

Last week we started showcasing a long, multi-part article by Criminology Professor Mike Adams in which he related the sad story of duplicity, political agenda, and intellectual dishonesty taking place within the Family Therapy faculty at Perdue University (Calumet). Here Adams finishes the series. The link contains more links to the earlier segments of the piece. Please visit: OF MICE AND MORMONS, PART VII, CONCLUSION

You might ask why this series was presented in this particular b’log. Simple. Yours truly has a deep and (usually) abiding interest in the subject of academe having seen first hand the sorry transition of undergraduate and graduate teaching devolving from a fairly noble search for truth and knowledge to agenda driven politics. This is certainly not true in every school or every department but thirty or so years ago it is my firm belief that college faculties were hijacked by then young teachers who demonstrated a level of religious fervor in their avowed intent to turn the next generation into little Marxists, or socialists at the very least. “Socialism” is still a dirty word to some of us. And the little Marxists? Hell, they’re now a generation of self-centered materialists.

OK..nuff said. Professor Adams comes to us courtest of TOWN HALL , which is a right-leaning organization some of whose contributors are far to the right of this old bird.

CRAZY LIKE A FOX
FRED THOMPSON DECLARES

Lots of folks mad at Old Fred because he is ditching this week’s GOP debate for a gig on Jay Leno’s late night show.

He is, it is widely assumed, lazy, too little too late, disorganized, and not Ron Reagan incarnate, as some of his supporters would have us believe.

Sorry, he ain’t Jesus Christ, either.

Let’s face it….his audience on Leno will be much, much larger than a Republican debate on Fox….further, Fox and every other news source will repeat whatever he says on late night TV over and over. Some few will bitch and moan about his no-show at the debate, but that will be forgotten by the weekend.

Thompson ranks high in the polls already (second and third consistently) and can only improve his standing among prospective voters by doing exactly what he is doing.

Fred Thompson might be my own personal first choice among the GOP contenders if I had not been reading numerous articles from LEW ROCKWELL and find this character from Texas, Ron Paul, more than a little interesting.

More on this later.

YOU CAN TELL FROM THE SMELL
IT'S MATTEL
ANOTHER RECALL

Mattel is announcing another recall...the third in recent weeks...of some of its products made in China. It appears that dangerous amounts of lead paint was used in the manufacture.

Among the more popular Mattel toys are the Barbi and Ken series which allow pre pubescent little girls to fantacize about dating, courtship, and sex. Particularly affected by the recall were accessories designed to accompany the dynamic doll duo.

The problem is one of communication and proves that a great gulf exists between speakers of English and Chinese. Toymakers who lathered on the offending paint because a CHinese executive misunderstood an American tycoon's comments at a cocktail party about 'putting some lead in Ken's pencil'.

SO YOU WANT TO BE A JIHADIST?

”Do you really have to meet Osama bin Laden in person in order to become a jihad fighter? Do you have to be recognized by Al-Qaeda as one of its members to become a jihad fighter? If Al-Qaeda commanders should be killed, would the jihad be eliminated? What would you do if Al-Qaeda did not exist today? How is Osama bin Laden different from you? — [yet] he managed to establish the world jihad organization. Who provided training to Osama bin Laden and Abdallah 'Azzam when they went to Afghanistan to become the first Arab jihad fighters?”

So you want to become a Jihadist? Kill infidel Americans and bring the Great Satan to its knees? Set up your own cell…no more than five members? You don’t have to meet face to face with Bin Laden to do it. You can BE El Quaeda without JOINING Al Quaeda. No dues here. No initiation ceremony. No waiting list…..

Nothing like a tell-all web site aimed at killing us, eh?

Here’s scary little article from THE AMERICAN CONGRESS FOR TRUTH which illustrates how terrorists recruit using the Internet. You can read it for yourself: On Islamist Websites: How to Join Al-Qaeda, Form a Jihad Cell, and Select a Western Target

There is more, lots more in this piece. One of the things I like best about THE AMERICAN CONGRESS FOR TRUTH is its use of reason without fear-mongering. Our 24/7 news networks could take a page from this organization.

ARE WE OVERLY CONCERNED WITH WHAT MUSLIMS THINK ABOUT US?

”Such measures have rewarded our enemy for waging physical and spiritual war against us. Condemn America, they have learned, and American leaders will praise your ideals and meet your demands. Attack America via terrorist proxy, terrorist states and movements have been taught, and America will neither blame you nor destroy you, but redouble its efforts to buy your love.”

Here is a short and pithy piece from the Ayn Rand Institute that calls Muslim ‘anger over U.S. policy and position the canard it really is. You can read it for yourself at http://www.hawaiireporter.com/story.aspx?61650d64-6bd7-4844-85eb-9533b83fa1b4 The author is a chap named Alex Epstein.

WHAT THE HELL'S
IN A NAME?

MAYOR ELLIS IS BACK HOME

We learned this morning in a lengthy interview with Randall Savage aired on WMAC that Macon's mayor has not yet officially changed his name.

Early in the year, at the time of his sudden conversion to Islam, we were told Hizzoner weas changing his name to Hakim Mansoor Ellis, ffrom the more familiar C. Jack.

This is simply not true, he now informs us, not true yet, anyway. For, with pressing city business consuming so much of his time, the name change is on hold.

Many, this b'log included, have not infrequently referred to Hizzoner as 'Hakim Mansour', or even 'Hackin' Hakim'. No longer may we do so. No longer until Mayor C. Jack Ellis actually undergoes the legal transformation to his Muslim familiar.

He claims that he is running for Congress. By all accounts that would make him the second Muslim in congress. So now is the time to pin the mayor down on his views on SHARIA LAW, does he believe in CONVERTING, ENSLAVING, or KILLING non-Muslims to 'dah faith' as so many Islamic fundamentalists do, should we stone to death Muslim ladies why stray from the constraints laid up Muslim womanhood, what about adulterous men? You know, like certain males who have children outside the bonds of matrimony, forced by the couts to pay child support? Sharia is very hard on Muslims who are guilty of adultery or who consume alcohol.

Ellis has much to answer for but, I suspect, will spend most of the rest of his administration abroad...always on city business, of course.

Maybe our Muslim friends can pray for flight delays when fearless leader is out of the country lounging around in a foreign airportwaiting to return to Georgia.

Pray hard, please!!

WET CATS AND RAIN DELAYS

Rain has come to middle Georgia....too late, perhaps to save some of the crops dried and dead in the fields, too late even to save my little garden plots, but welcome and long lasting and penetrating.

There is nothing quite so elemental as rain, at once necessary for survival, yet potentially so destructive. It some primitive societies it was a stand-alone god (or goddess). After a long, hot dry spell it is a delight to the body and becomes a catharsis to the psyche. Even the cats don't seem to mind getting their fur wet.

Watching the weather channel this AM...looking for more rain, of course. A sign flashed at the bottom of the screen. MACON REGIONAL AIRPORT NO DELAYS. It has nothing to do with weather, boys and girls, Macvon's Regional Airport has virtually no traffic to begin with.

DEATH BY MEDIA

Richard Jewel died this week. He was forty-four.

Eleven years ago, he was a hero...it was he who discovered a deadly bomb planted in the midst of the Atlanta Olympics. His alarm saved numerous lives.

He then became a person of interest, hounded by law enforcement, and, especially the media. Hounded like nobody in recent history. Hounded to total distraction. Hounded almost to death. And the worst of the media wolves was the smug ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION, a daily rag that makes Macon's little BLATT AND BUGLE look like a newspaper of record by comparison.

The real bomber was subsequently discovered and arrested. Mr. Jewel was declared innocent of all accusation. He sued and settled with CNN and NBC, but never in his lifetime received so much as an apology from the AJC.

Shame forever be upon the ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION which never did the right thing in this matter during the lifetime of a fine citizen and humble man.

A LIBERTARIAN SLANT ON
A SENATOR'S JOHN STALL MEANDER

"During Senator Craig’s 27-year tenure in Congress, Craig helped impose a spirit of meanness upon an immense state and federal law enforcement apparatus. It was this money- and power-gorged law enforcement machinery that sat next to him in the restroom stall at the Minneapolis airport. The spectacle of a government agent loitering on a toilet seat at taxpayer expense in a "sting operation" against those who give inappropriate foot taps or hand gestures can only be explained as part of the general Sovietization of criminal justice that Senator Craig and his cohorts in Congress have been promoting for more than a generation."

Here is a fascinating take on the Craig mess appearing this morning on LEW ROCKWELL

Roger Roots takes a long, hard look at the erosion of civil liberties civil liberties that took place during the twenty-seven years Craig served in the Senate. It's pretty scarey. He lists: During Senator Craig’s tenure in Washington, Congress has: (1) criminalized hundreds of previously non-criminal acts under federal law; (2) increased criminal penalties for many federal offenses; (3) drastically increased collateral consequences of minor criminal convictions, subjecting some convicted misdemeanants to lifetime infringements of civil rights and occupational opportunities; (4) applied these collateral consequences retroactively; (5) strategically and systematically limited the appeal rights of convicted persons; (6) carved away the ancient availability of habeas corpus review of convictions; (7) created "procedures" to circumvent the plain language of the Sixth Amendment for accused terror suspects; (8) expanded the authority of police to evade the Fourth Amendment by wiretapping, searching without notification, searching without warrant, and surveilling citizens without cause; (9) exponentially enlarged the budget of the U.S. Justice Department; (10) diverted federal tax dollars into local law enforcement agencies to pay for extra officers; and (11) eliminated all statutory relief for convicted persons.

Ad then goes on to detail how government, concerned with an ever increasing assumption of power unto itself, has actually set the stage for the senator's 'entrapment', if you will, by encouraging law enforcement to skirt the traditional safeguards of the fourth and sixth amendments.

This you will like. Read it for yourself at SENATOR CRAIG'S INNOCENSE TYitle a bit tongue in cheek.

Ciao!!
