SENATOR LARRY CRAIG
CRUISIN'

It looks like scandal-ridden, Larry Craig will resign his senate seat tomorrow, one more casualty in the Congressional sleaze wars.

Personally playing hook-up in the stall of a men’s room does not rise to the level of 90,000 bribe bucks in your freezer, or trying to play paddy whack with underage page boys, but the GOP says he has to go, and the GOP is an honorable party politic.

There is more than a little hypocrisy in this guy’s record.

I don’t understand the gay male crapper cruising syndrome, but apparently there are rules governing the playing field as in any game. There are also traditions that apply to church ice cream socials and others covering the relationships found in Tuesday night mixed bingo.

During my high school sophomore year our small French class met in the relatively elegant living room of the home economics complex. This fifteen-year-old sat next to an older woman, a senior, at a leafed dining table. Early in the year we touched feet, then lower leg, then rubbed thighs together. Teacher never found out…we never talked about it, not even once. Get a kid expelled in today’s climate of fear, mistrust, and zero-tol. In those days the worst punishment was a trip to the principal which wasn’t too bad in itself, but the old bastard had a nasty habit of calling your father in his place of work. Then all hell inevitably broke loose when he got home.

Tell you the truth I haven’t heard much of anything about the Larry Craig situation because I have avoided news broadcasts over the past two or three days. I have no idea whether he is a decent sort or not.

But it seems so terribly sad that any man has feels he has to resort to searching for some kind of human companionship by cruising bathroom stalls and going through the little rituals transcribed for us from a police report.

Poor bastard

DICK MORRIS ON HILLARY CLINTON
FIGHTER OR PLAYGROUND BULLY
UNDERSTANDING THE PHRASE
"A VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY"

”But in reality, Hillary’s favorite wars are much less lofty and much more self-centered and mean-spirited. Hillary emphatically comes from the “us versus them” school of American politics. Like Richard Nixon, the politician she so closely resembles, she sees the world in extraordinarily simple terms: there are those who agree with her and support her and then there’s the rest of the world. Those who don’t agree with her are bunched together and known collectively as “the enemy” — that vast right wing conspiracy that must be vilified, beaten, and destroyed ... whatever it takes.”

This is Dick Morris at his best.

An entire column devoted to exposing the inner workings of the psyche of candidate Hillary Clinton, whom Morris knows, perhaps, better than anybody else does.

It is not a pretty picture. She has, he claims (and rightly, methinks) a kind of Nixonian view of the world…”If you aren’t with me, then you are against me and are, therefore, my enemy. Hillary carries the “US vs THEM” mind-set to the extreme.

The article itself is fairly lengthy, but well worth a close look. Read it for yourself at HILLARY CLINTON: WARRIOR OR BULLY?

We’re heading fot the last big weekend of a long, hot summer. Please drive carefully.

Ciao

CONSIDERING MIDDLE GEORGIA’S LOUSY SAT SCORES
AN OPINION
PART ONE

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is an important examination for those contemplating attending many of our nation’s colleges.

For decades it has remained one solid predictor, as far as any indicator can be, of a young person’s academic success in college. It is not the only predictor.

Now nothing is certain, of course, Kids with top scores flunk out; some children who test poorly do very well. My own middle son had (initially) abysmal SAT scores. I tutored him outside the school’s curriculum, stressing vocabulary building and reading comprehension. He took practice tests every weekend for ten weeks. VOILA…in the spring of his junior year he lifted his score 240 points. Rob graduated from college, subsequently earned a master’s degree with a 3.9 average, and now teaches college courses when he isn’t coaching soccer and softball.

Don’t tell me improving test scores can’t be done with a bit of judicious coaching and some old-fashioned discipline on the side, dammit!!!!

By this time we all know that Georgia pulled a woeful 46/50 ranking once again in SAT scores nation-wide. That’s just about where we have been since first I landed on the shores of the Ocmulgee thirty-one years ago. One of my private school colleagues summed up our attitude a few years ago by intoning in a faculty meeting, “Well, somebody’s gotta be at the bottom”, which speaks volumes about teachers in the Peach State.

Schools in the mid state did particularly poorly. Let’s look at the statistics first, then take a stab at what they mean.

TWO or TEN

For those who love to wallow in the kind of wall-to-wall coverage the 24/7 news guys so dote on, this is your lucky day. Take your pick…..

TWO YEARS AGO Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf coast. Much of Louisiana remains devastated. The Weather Channel will no doubt give us video tape featuring horizontal weather-men clinging to sign posts as they are assaulted by hurricane force wind.

TEN YEARS AGO Princess Di was killed in a car wreck in Paris. That was the occasion when we learned that most Americans are as stupidly and morbidly addicted to the Royal Family as are our cousins, the Brits. Only they have a right. It’s their sceptered isle, not ours. Look for specials on FNC, CNN, and MSNBC. What a waste of air time.

THE SORRY SAGA CONTINUES
MIKE ADAMS....MICE AND MORMONS....PART FOUR

”On August 8, 2004, Mr. Ford met with Professor Hecker and an intern for a thirty to forty-five minute meeting to discuss a very difficult incest case. During this meeting, the clients were in the waiting room awaiting their therapy session. As Professor Hecker was the professor and the approved certified instructor, both Purdue University standards and the ethics code of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists required her to work with Mr. Ford and to supervise his session with the clients. During the meeting, Professor Hecker abruptly announced to the intern and Mr. Ford that she could no longer work with Mr. Ford ethically. At this point, she was shaking with anger.”

Part Four of professor Mike Adams fable of good people caught in the rotten web of modern academe continues this morning with an explosive and nauseating look at the inner mind of a seamy segment of Perdue’s graduate faculty.

Adams’ ‘cliffhanger’ approach remains operative….we are promised more tomorrow. A rocking conclusion, no doubt, to this saga of shame, degradation, sex-gone-politically-correct, criminality, falsification, infidelity, degradation, and sordid unprofessionalism. You can enter this underbelly of a highly respected university’s graduate department by clicking on: OF MICE AND MORMONS PART FOUR

Now, gentle (as well as violent) readers, the plot in this saga is getting complicated….but, with a little self-discipline, you can keep abreast of the twists and turns of intra-collegiate filth.

And remember, Professor Mike Adams of UNC-Wilmington comes to us (usually) twice a week from TOWN HALL, whose writers are conservative, many far too neo-conservative for this aging Goldwater Republican.

MIXING METAPHORS*, MOUSIES, and MORMONS
PART, THE THIRD

In response, Professor Trepper asked Mr. Ford whether he would conduct “gay affirmative therapy” or “gay couple therapy.” Mr. Ford responded that he would do neither because he did not feel competent to do so. Both clearly violated his faith tradition so, instead, he said he would refer clients requesting such treatment to other therapists. Trepper responded saying: “I just don’t know whether you can even be in the program.”

Here is part three of Mike Adams’ sturm und drang article about sex therapy students and Perdue University. Looks like there may be a part four. According to one of his students, Professor Adams likes the ‘cliffhanger’ approach to teaching….keeps ‘em coming back. See for yourself. OF MICE AND MORMONS, PART III

And remember, Mike Adams is a regular TOWN HALL contributor.

THAT YELOW JOURNALISM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN MACON, GEORGIA
WHAT LETTER OF SOLIDARITY?

”Macon Mayor Jack Ellis has sent a declaration of "solidarity" to Hugo Chavez, the fiery populist leader of Venezuela who has labeled President Bush "the devil" and pals around the world stage with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Cuban President Fidel Castro.

Ellis said Thursday he sent the proclamation not only in his capacity as mayor of Macon but also as the vice president for tourism for the World Conference "

Thus begins an article by the TELEGRAPH’S own Matt Barnwell, published on tenth of this month (August, 2007).

The apparent source was an internet web site which contained a speech by dictator Hugo Chavez in which he thanked the Mayor of Macon Georgia for his show of solidarity somewhere in the context.

Before long the piece hit the news services and went world wide. Neal Boortz picked it up almost immediately and began broadcasting devastating opinion about Mayor Ellis and those who elected him. Within a couple of days, Fox News showed up camera at the ready and ran an unflattering two minutes based on the Barnwell story, local interviews included.

By then the fact that Mayor Ellis had written a letter of solidarity to Hugo Chavez had become gospel and Macon, once again, was the laughing stock of a late summer news cycle.

A brief rally was held in front of City Hall early the next week led by GOP politicians seeking their fair share of the slimelight. Maybe fifty people (almost all lilly white and perspiring heavily in the morning sun) showed up. There was no Fox camera, Boortz didn’t mention it, and if the demonstration hit the wire services, I couldn’t find it.

HEY....
NOW WE'RE NUMBER TWELVE

Georgia....the Peach State....my adopted home.

Ranked, as we saw earlier, 46/50 among states when comparing SAT Scores.

But...here is some good news.

We're NUMBER 12 in another national ranking. That's the good news.

The bad news is that the list is the national THE OBESITY RANKING!!!

Mississippi ranks #1 (fattest); Colorado #50 (skinniest) ; Georgia an unhealthy #12.

Click MORE to see the rankings of the fifty states....and yes, the order is jumbled..would have had to retype what I found on the 'Net.

MISS TEEN SOUTH CAROLINA
her amazing response

By this time most of us have seen on TV or UTube the convoluted and confusing answer South Carolina's eighteen-year-old candidate gave to a question which asked why so many Americans cannot locate the United States on a map of the world.

You have seen it. Now read it....this answer is more confusing than the opening sentence of Milton's PARADISE LOST....try diagramming that S.O.B.

Said She:

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some [this is the point where her eyes go wide and she seems to realize the trouble she's in ] ... people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, ah, education like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for our children."

HAS JESSE JACKSON FORGOTTEN CERTAIN LESSONS OF HISTORY?
"It is criminal to teach a man not to defend himself when he is the constant victim of brutal attacks."
Malcolm X

The “Liberty Crew” over at JPFO sent out today the following email…a dire warning about Jesse Jackson’s assault on gun rights.

If you have read this column for very long, you already know that I am not a Jesse Jackson fan. Our buddies from JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF GUN OWNERSHIP have a very good (and damning) take on the slightly reverend Mr. Jackson’s latest charade.

That Email Follows:

ALERT FROM JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FIREARMS OWNERSHIP America's Aggressive Civil Rights Organization August 28, 2007 JPFO ALERT: Does Jessie "Gun Hater" Jackson Ignore Government Racism? [For those readers experiencing difficulties in viewing our earlier HTML alert, here it is in standard text format] Today in 25 cities, shameless self-promoter Jesse Jackson is staging a gun-store protest.

Jackson said the nationwide rallies would represent a grassroots effort to press state and federal legislators into passing "common sense" legislation to stem the flow of handguns and military-style automatic weapons. Apparently Jackson is unfamiliar with the old saying, "Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it." Since 1792, "gun control" laws were designed to keep black people disarmed and helpless. Black persons, whether slave or free, had to have a license or a judge's permission before they could carry a firearm in Florida and Delaware. For black people, guns were banned entirely in several states.

Florida laws empowered white "citizen patrols" to invade and search blacks' homes for guns or other weapons. None of these policies applied, of course, to white people. This is the vision Jessie Jackson has for the future? This is the government he trusts to protect him? In response to his short-sighted and indeed, suicidal, belief that "only the government should have firearms," we offer our latest "Repudiate and Humiliate" handbill at www.jpfo.org/handbill-jackson.jpg .

In closing, we would like to point out another quote to Rev. Jackson: "It is criminal to teach a man not to defend himself when he is the constant victim of brutal attacks." - Malcolm X Send this email to every gun owner you know. And if you live in one of the 25 cities in which protests are taking place, print it out and hand it out at the protests! Let Jackson's intended victims know what he plans for them.

WE’RE NUMBER FORTY-SIX

FROM TODAY’S ATLANTA CONSTITUTION:

Math scores for Georgia's 2007 high school class fell one point from last year to 495 out of a possible 800, and reading scores stayed the same at 494. Scores on the writing portion of the test, added in 2006, tumbled four points over the previous year to 483.
The good news? We're still not last in the nation. We're 46th, just like last year.

With a swipe at Governor Perdue, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, most definitely not my favorite left-leaning daily newspaper, just a few moments ago gave us the bad news about last year’s SAT scores. Georgia kids, on the average, dipped in the critical areas of math and writing. I have not yet seen the other indicators.

With all the emphasis on the asinine ‘No Child Left Behind’ legislation, with all the pious platitude from unimaginative educators and their equally dunderheaded administrators, education in the Peach state continues to remind the rest of the nation that we are the land of ‘scurvy, beri-beri, Jim Crow, and waiting fo’ the Robert E. Lee, which never was on time.’

Well, corn my pone!!

Teaching (and parenting) are really quite simple. It only takes (1) teachers well versed in academic subjects, dedicated to imparting genuine knowledge to the young; (2) kids; (3) parents who support the local academic system and are not afraid of their children; (4) a few administrators willing to back their teachers up and protect them from government maggots who would interfere with their responsibilities in the classroom.

It’s largely ‘instinctive’, education is, but instinct has long ago vanished along with common sense.

Parenting? A lot like teaching. The first thing a mother or father must learn is the word ‘no’; the second is the memorization of the line, “I am not your friend; I am your father (mother),” then saying it until it becomes an automatic response. Once committed to memory, act upon it as if the entire future of the human race depends on what you do.

In the thirty-one years I have lived in Georgia, many of which I served as a classroom teacher, we have seen a steady decline in real learning, in classroom discipline, and in teacher competency. We try to fix things with new curricula, new schools, new calendars, new rules and regulations. Whatever we have tried has largely failed. We’re still at the bottom of the barrel.

The thing we have not improved in three decades is making things better where the rubber meets the road, in the classroom where the kid comes face to face with a teacher who cares.

MIKE ADAMS
MIXING MICE AND MORMONS,
PART TWO

”When Mr. Ford’s turn came, he explained that he thought homosexual conduct was morally wrong, but he emphasized that he would not treat any individual differently as a result. He condemned all forms of discrimination, explaining that he, personally, had been a victim of discrimination. He cited his experience during the interview process, where all four interviewers asked about his religious beliefs and used his response to determine whether he would be accepted into the program. When he asked his classmates to indicate by a show of hands whether they had been asked the question “How will you treat gay clients?” none of the 20 students responded.”

It came earlier than expected, but here is part two of the Mike Adams column begun yesterday.

You will find it in all its glory at OF MICE AND MORMONS, PART II

Now we are promised a PART THREE.

THIS IN FROM ELAINE LUCAS
TOWN HALL MEETING TONIGHT
RESIDENTS OF WARD ONE

We are very fortunate here in East Macon, to have Elaine Lucas as one of our Council People. Passionate about the people in her ward, she is equally concerned about the bigger picture, and more than most of our elected officials, has a vision for the larger community...what's best for Macon as a whole.

Elaine has organized a series of three Town Hall Meetings to address all manner of problems including the current hotel proposal now well along.

The first of these will be held at 6:30 tonight, at Saint Peter's Baptist Church on Fort Hill Street just off Shurlington Drive.

Representatives from Noble Enterprises will be on hand. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask penetrating questions.

Sounds like a winner from here.

Thanks, Elaine.

MORE TASTELESS HUMOR FROM
NEAL BOORTZ

Every so often subscribers (hey, it's free) to Neal Boortz's newsletter, THE BOORTZ BLAST, are treated to any number of tasteless jokes, emails, and cartoons....one such follows:

War Wounded
A U.S. Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist, badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened.

The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road.

I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein is a miserable, lowlife scumbag, and he yelled back that Ted Kennedy is a good-for-nothing, fat, left wing liberal drunk.

So I said that Osama Bin Laden dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian!

He retaliated by yelling, Oh yea. Well, so does Hillary Clinton!

And, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us."

WHAT DID YOU LEARN IN SCHOOL TODAY
DEAR LITTLE BOYS OF MINE?

The playlist for WSVH’s Music Americana Radio show, heard locally at 8:00 PM Saturday night over Georgia Public radio includes an old favorite by the Chad Mitchell Trio (Lyrics apparently earlier by Tom Paxton). It is a zinger of a ‘folk song’ from back in 1964….I do have a tape made from an original vinyl.

Trust your government? Trust those educating your kids? Read these lyrics., now forty-three years old:

Two and two are four
And four and four are eight
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP
Two and two are four

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that Washington never told a lie
I learned that soldiers seldom die
I learned that everybody's free
That's what the teacher said to me
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that policemen are my friends
I learned that justice never ends
I learned that murderers die for their crimes
Even if we make a mistake sometimes
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that wars are not so bad
I learned of the great ones we have had
We fought in Germany and in France
And someday I might get my chance
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that Government must be strong
It's always right and never wrong
Our leaders are the finest men
And so we elect them again and again
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

That's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school
Two and two are four
Two and two are four

MIKE ADAMS AND A
VERY STRANGE COLUMN
OR HALF-COLUMN

“Mr. West then asked the learned professor whether therapists are ethically bound to help a client reach his goals rather than to advance the therapist’s political agenda. And he further asked Professor Hecker if she would want Mr. West to change his views concerning the matter simply because she disagreed with him. The good professor was visibly shaken by the question.

This is a bit of an odd-ball column from our favorite University Professor. The ‘Once upon a time’….tone set at the beginning tells us that the thing is a fable, a kind of a fairy tale set in academe.

I don’t want to give anything away by saying too much here. Check it out for yourself at OF MICE AND MORMONS

Professor Mike’s column is only half available right now. It is to be continued, Wednesday, I presume, when his next regularly scheduled article is due.

Interesting read….strange tone….not a little fun.

It came to us courtesy of TOWN HALL just this morning.

MORE ON THE THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD PHOENIX BOY WHO got
SUSPENDED FOR DRAWING A PICTURE OF A GUN

Here is a link to an email I received this morning from one of my favorite pro gun organizations, the JPFO, JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FIREARMS OWNERSHIP.

The email itself contains a couple of links that further explain the story we commented on yesterday.

Please check it out for yourself. It is well worth reading.
JPFO ALERT: Sketch of fictional gun gets 13yo student ejected from school

Again, I take the position that the entire notion of 'ZERO TOL' is merely an attempt of a hidebound, unimaginative educational establishment to control forces it cannot comprehend without using any brain cells.

THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL

Our hats are off to the kids and coaches from Warner Robins. They won the World Championship Little Leage title with a single, home run shot but a few minutes ago.

Great series. WR kids weren't supposed to win. It was a come from behind effort. Saw as many games as I could. This year I was more impressed than ever before not so much at the level of play but at the level of sportsmanship.

The Japanese youngsters lost a heartbreaker. Most of those children were crying immediately after a very close defeat. These are good tears, tears of the athlete who gives all but comes up just a little short. Noticed that most of the American kids were crying too. Tears of the baby athletes spoke more about international relations on the personal level than all the treaties in the archives.

Well done. Proud of all you guys.

"Drawing"
YOUR GUN IN AN
ARIZONA SCHOOL

”It's really sad to think of educators and schizophrenics in the same sentence.”

I have been working on a short piece about the thirteen-year-old Phoenix school kid who found himself suspended because he drew a picture of a gun.

A gun that looked more like a schoolbus, actually. Not much of a threat. No hit list, no gang signs, just a simple picture of an object poorly drawn and young teen fanciful.

But the ‘one size fits all’ crowd of a spineless school bureaucrats got a look at the thing, those educational administrators trapped perpetually in the straight-jacket of a mind set devoid of common sense, and punished the kid. They also tried to make his father feel like the progenitor of Jack the Ripper. “How could you raise…..?”

For now we can be content with a great little article written by Paul Jacob that appeared this morning in TOWN HALL Think you will like it far more than the average Sunday Fare.

See your self at UNHAPPINESS IS A DRAWN GUN

Then ask yourself the overwhelming question: what are the idiots to whom we have entrusted our children’s education thinking, if ‘thinking’ be the appropriate term to describe their knee-jerk thought processes?

By the way, It’s probably a very good thing that the hundreds of doodle drawings I made as a junior high kid didn’t survive. Some of them in today’s timid society would have earned me hard time in Juvie for depicting victorious GI’s shooting the snot out of hundreds of dead and dying ‘Krauts’, ‘Japs’, and ‘Gooks’. Today it might be 'Muslims', but that notion is anathema in PC Land.

More on this very soon.

DICK MORRIS ASKS
WHO WANTS TO BE HILLARY'S VEEP?

”Have the Democrats, in their hearts, anointed Clinton as their candidate already? Do they regard the criticisms of her fellow candidates as just fissures in a party they are determined to keep united and focused on the objective of defeating President Bush? Are they rallying around their standard-bearer a year before she is awarded their standard?”

We haven’t heard from Dick Morris in quite a while. But he’s back in fine form with an article that first appeared on FNC and TOWN HALL as well as his own mailing list: HILLARY'S RUNNING MATE RACE: SEN. CHRIS DODD AND GOV. BILL RICHARDSON ARE POSSIBILITIES

Who will be Hillary’s running mate? Apparently several of the nominal contenders for the top spot really have their hearts on number two.

No, no….not that ‘number two’, we mean the vice-presidency, VEEP, he who also serves, like that Cheney guy everybody likes so much.

It’s pretty good article…not Dick’s best, but not even Morris can score a home run every time he goes to bat.

Try it, you might like it.

DOG FIGHTING and ABORTION
MIKE ADAMS HAS A DREAM

I also dreamed that before long there was an organized movement to make dog-fighting legal. The feminists were outside of courthouses wearing t-shirts and holding signs that said “Keep your laws off my doggie,” “My doggie, my choice,” and something I couldn’t understand about a case called “Rover v. Wade.”

This was a little grisly to wake up to at 5:00 AM on a Friday Morning as I prepare for an expedition to our local shooting club to promote my Second Amendment rights, but it will do. I really do have to try out a newly-arrived pistol of European descent with a thirteen round capacity.

Mike Adams had a dream. He dreamed about Mike Vic, dog fighting, feminists, and abortion rights and managed to jumble them all together into a damned good high-on-the-irony article which you may read right here: KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF MY DOGGIE

Good stuff. Quick read. Of course the piece comes to us courtesy of TOWN HALL and the good folks who keep us thinking more or less on the ‘right’ track.

Mike Adams is also a strong supporter of Second Amendment Rights and hunting. At the University of North Carolina at Wilmington you can tell him from the other, more liberal faculty members because he isn’t nearly as pointy headed .

His article was not flattering to our very own, home grown, though sometimes exported, Georgia Red Necks, those good men and women who form the philosophical backbone of my adopted state.

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF ROCKWELL
ALL IS NOT WELL IN THE SOCIALIST PARADISE
SWEDEN

What we are seeing here is nothing but the inevitable result of state socialism when the children of the welfare state behave in their own interest according to the logic of the nanny state. The welfare way to a good life is not to make it yourself, it is simply to need it and demand it. Let "the others" (whoever they are) do all the work.

Per Bylund is graduate student at the University of Missouri (Columbia), a native of Sweden, and a product of that country’s public school system.

To many Sweden is a charming, cradle to grave, utopian socialist state where most citizens spend a lifetime avoiding the dreaded ‘R Word’ (‘responsibility’).

However, there are flaws in the educational system and they are brought to light in this brief, but penetrating article which you can read here: THE TERRIBLE EFFECTS OF PUBLIC SCHOOLING

Some of the trends and educational malarkey currently ruining youth in Sweden are entering our own government school systems at an ever accelerating rate. For anybody with even a passing interest in the next generation, this will prove to be an alarming read.

Of course the article is found at LEW ROCKWELL DOT COM

EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION
BUT HARDLY ANYONE EVER READS IT
THE BILL OF RIGHTS

Every so often I like to re-publish some of the more basic documents underlying the American Experiment. To find them all, you have to go no further than http://boortz.com

A few weeks ago we re-printed the most seditious document in all American history, the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, which is no longer taught in most Public (Government) schools because it undermines the authority of the Federal Government.

Click MORE to read the entire BILL OF RIGHTS, AKA the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution. It is my guess that most of the pundits who rail on about the sacred ten have never read them or have forgotten what it is they promise.

Are our individual rights being eroded? You Detcha, Baby!!!

THE NEW REPUBLIC
reviews
SUPERBAD

”There is nothing as dirty--and, in the right circumstances, as hilarious--as the mind of a 17-year-old boy.”

I have been amazed at the positive reviews that the recently released film SUPERBAD has received from some very serious quarters.

Apparently this is not your average teenager in heat flick, as many (myself included) might have concluded from the pre-release hype) but a truly magnificent example of the celluloid capture of adolescent angst.

Of course I have not trudged to our local Cinema Enormous to see for myself and won’t. But taking a cue from several more serious review sources, this movie might just be well worth a look….if you are not squeamish about broad, coarse, and totally vulgar teen sex humor.

One such review came today from, of all places, THE NEW REPUBLIC. You can access it here at: THE OBSCENE GENIUS OF SUPERBAD BOYS TO MEN The review is none other than Christopher Orr, a senior editor over at TNR.

Check it our for yourself…or don’t. I won’t, but don’t let that stop you. I guess after years of working with adolescents in propria persona I long ago grew weary of the ‘coming of age’ genre, which is all too often just an excuse for another dirty movie.

THE FOLLOWING IS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT
IT IS DESIGNED TO OFFEND AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE

This was sent in by an old friend, a high school classmate in fact. You should know that "Roger" did a stint in the U.S. army and hits these Georgia shores every so often to attend reunions at Fort Benning

Read it and laugh!! Read it and weep!!! Read it and just get pissed off!!!!

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist
threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon,
though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A
Bit Cross." Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in
1940 >when tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized
from "Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a
"Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

Also, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised
its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels
in >France are "Surrender" and "Collaborate." The rise was precipitated
by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively
paralyzing the country's military capability.

It's not only the English and French that are on a heightened level of
alert. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout loudly and
excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain:
"Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans also increased their alert state from "Disdainful
Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two
higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and the
only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to
deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish
navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LEW ROCKWELL
THE DUKE LACROSSE CASE AND THE COMMUNIST REVOLUTION IN CHINA
THROUGH THE EYES OF MODERN COLLEGE FACULTIES

”People who are skeptical about this particular direction in which academe is headed call it "political correctness," and that is not far off the mark, even though those on the academic left who first coined that term now are angry whenever someone throws it back at them. Indeed, if politics is about the usurpation of raw power by those in "authority," then "political correctness" is an excellent term to describe what is happening, for modern academe is geared at increasing the power of the state to impose a way of life that all of what one might call "natural law" rejects. The belief is that the political process can be marshaled in a manner in which those in power can force people to do what they never would do otherwise and even change the very face of nature itself.

I just finished reading one of the most riveting articles that has crossed my computer screen in many a moon. The author, William L. Anderson, is an economics professor from Maryland. He hits hard.

His target…..the Marxist-determinist-socialist mindset that dominates the thinking of teachers on American college campi today.

Anderson takes a long look at both the Duke Lacrosse Case and the Communist revolution that racked China for almost fifty years. The Duke faculty apparently still believes that ‘something happened’ and therefore the three young men originally charged must be ‘guilty until proven guilty’. Likewise, the Communist revolution (that uprooted an entire population and killed outright 100 million or more Chinese peasants) had to have been a good thing because ‘Socialism cannot harm the poor’. Those following ‘the narrative’ are oblivious to the fact.

Great stuff. Read it for yourself at NARRATIVES AND NONSENSE

Of course the piece was found this morning on LEW ROCKWELL DOT COM

THE RETURN OF JAMI G.

Yep, She’s Baaaaaaaaack. And a good thing it is.

Back, but not doing talk radio.

Back doing news for the fledgling ABC MACON NEWS show running at 7:00 PM on Channel 58 (cable 6, in my part of the world), and again at 11:00.

Last night she came out swinging and did a piece on the downtown mugging we reported yesterday.

Jami Gaudet is one of the best and most positive assets this city has….bar none. Her work teamed with Kenny Bergamy on WMAC for years made that show one of the finest talk radio programs to be found anywhere this side of the Mason Dixon Line.

We are most happy that Jami is returned to the public eye. Without her good services Macon would be far less viable place in which to live.

TWELVE DANISH CARTOONS
MOHAMMED THE BOMB THROWER

Just as the cartoonists were goping into hiding, I published on this b'log all twelve cartoon depictions of the prophet Mohammed that so enflamed many fundamentalist Muslims that a price was put on the head of these poor guys.

They are still there....you can access all twelve of them by clicking on FEBRUARY '06 at the left and scrolling down to Februrary 7th. Not hard to find.

Twelve cartoons in all their damagaged glory.

Twelve cartoons that prove once agin the truth that religious fundamentalists no matter what their stripe are mirth-challenged...and cannot accept any bit of whimsey that puts their holy cow in a bad light.

Ever see the movie THE LIFE OF BRIAN, the eighties Monty Python spoof of the life of Jesus? It was pointedly irreligious and very, very funny. Raised holy hell among local fundamentalists, but was shown in the theaters anyway. Had the Pythons produced something similar about the Life of Mohammed, our streets would have run red with iour nfidel blood.

Get mad at one of these guys and yell, 'Mohammed was a pig' and you can end up at the end of a rope, or find yourself being stoned to death by a mob of pissed off Arabs. Of course we don't stone many folks in this country, but you might be stoned and visiting in a land where Sharia is practiced, then you are a done deal.

It's not exactly political correctness, but poking fun at ultra conservative Republicans, ultra liberal democrats, Christian fundamentalists, AND medieval-like Muslims is actually a good thing. Humor beats war any day, of course, in some quarters a joke might start an armed conflict.

Did you hear the one about Mohammed and the two-humped camel?

Fatima and Mohammed walked into a bar....

There are four Mullah's standing around watching a Jewish merchant clinch a sale.

Human nature has not changed over time. We are the very same people we we when our ancestors lioved in caves and slaughtered the Wooly Mammoth for food and pelt.

Go, check out the twelve cartoons. I have only had a couple of death threats since putting them on the b'log. I get more than that from local politicians.

And send in your jokes. The more non-politically correct the better.

DOES RON PAUL STAND A SNOWBALL'S CHANCE IN HELL?
MAYBE YES?
or
MAYBE NO?
or
MAYBE MAYBE?

”George Stephanopoulos may only stand nine inches tall without television camera tricks, but that’s because he’s the only documented Greek Leprechaun in modern history. He therefore wields powerful clairvoyance powers that can shape the future. That explains Bill Clinton’s election and reelection over the seemingly unstoppable Bob Dole. If you don’t have George Stephanopoulos on your side, your cause is hopeless. Fortunately for Boston Red Sox fans, Stephanopoulos withdrew his longstanding "The Red Sox can never win the World Series" edict in October 2004.

While we have been busy justifying our own position on ‘why we are not a card carrying Libertarian, not yet anyway, your DAILY DOSE OF LEW ROCKWELL DOT COM has been sadly neglected in recent days.

Apologies…maybe kick in a couple of extra articles just to be nice. But today we offer a gem which you can access at TEN REASONS WHY RON PAUL CAN’T WIN

Written by Thomas R. Eddlem, writer, pundit, and talk show host, with tongue sometimes planted loosely in cheek, it is a heck of a good read on a Tuesday….or any other morning.

Try it, you’ll like it, Mikie and everybody else.

I sense that Libertarians have a more refined sense of humor than do either dyed-in-the-wool Republicans or Democrats.

PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY on
THE NEA
and its
FRIGHTENING AGENDA

"All Democratic candidates look forward to increased federal control of and spending for public schools. And they all attacked President George W. Bush's No Child Left Behind law for not appropriating more funds to implement it. After cheering the promises made by the candidates, NEA delegates buckled down to the serious business of spelling out their political goals, many of which have nothing whatever to do with giving schoolchildren a better education. "

“Frightening” is my personal insert….the NEA scares the hell out of me.

Why? Because it’s America’s most powerful labor union, and in many respects it EXERCISES A MORE DIRECT INFLUENCE ON YOUR CHILD THAN YOU DO!!!

In all the years I taught I was never tempted to join the NEA or any teachers’ union. The oft given advice of my father always echoed in my ear, “Never trust labor Unions or Big Government, Son”. When teachers’ unions and left leaning government merge into one, the notion is most frightening.

So here Ms. Schafly waxes eloquent on the NEA and spells out for us much of its agenda. That much of what she says is accurate I know because I receive that union’s regular email newsletter….always know what your enemy is saying about itself.

And, just to set the record straight, I dislike what the GOP is doing to education almost as much as I detest the agenda of the party of the mythic jackass. The NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND act is well on its way to adding its unforeseen consequences to the death of America as we know it.

Check out the Schlafly column at THE NEA LISTS ITS GOALS AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AGREES

It was featured this morning at TOWN HALL

ODI ET AMO
ONE FOOT IN THE LIBERTARIAN FOLD
THE OTHER???…..WHO THE HELL KNOWS?

The article written here a few days ago “DAMN YOUR EYES, LEW ROCKWELL, YOU’RE TURNING ME INTO A &$%^*&( LIBERTARIAN” brought a surprising amount of email. Some of it welcomed me to the brotherhood, the rest (a minority) cursing me for turning my back on every Republican I ever voted for.

Time to set a few things straight.

First, I was never a Republican. True, I registered as one in New York State as a college student, and again in Massachusetts. In those states back then the only ingress to the primaries was through party registration. Here in Georgia, where I have voted for thirty-one years now, we simply register….not by party…just register. That means that come primary time, I can choose to be a Dem or a Repug, whatever floats my boat at that particular point in time.

It is a wonderfully wicked way to screw up the pollsters.

CRIME OR THE PERCEPTION THEREOF

I'm a little confused, and don't make any comments about 'keen insight into the obvious'.

I thought, a year or a few months back that the Macon Police Department was at full strength, finally, after much recruiting and training.

Now chief Burns tells us we are about sixty-five officers short of what we ought to have. That is the figure I recall from WMAC radio this morning. Seems like the lack of a pay scale is causing more and more men/women in blue to seek gainful law enforcement employment elsewhere, the grass being greener, of course.

So, the implication might be that we can expect more crime like the mugging Friday evening in the downtown, or the firebombing three weeks ago of a drug house seven tenths of a mile from where this is being typed.

Is the level of crime going up, or is it the perception of that level? Either way, if this city is going through with plans to build a downtown hotel turning the centreplex into a sho-nuff CONVENTION CENTER, it will have to come to grips with this problem.

If not, the Convention Center will stand empty most of the year except when the Alumni of Reidsville State Prison hold their annual meeting

A MUGGING IN DOWNTOWN MACON

A thirty-one year old man was mugged, robbed, and pistol whipped by a gun-totin' thug at 6:00 PM Friday in a parking garage on lower Mulberry street.

It is sad to report that the vic was white, the perp Black....continuing the unfortunate stereotype.

The incident took place within yards of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the Sports Museum, and the Federal building.

It raises once again the age-old question is Macon's downtown safe?

From my personal experience from a decade ago, when I frequently left our club at three or four in the morning, it is safe. Doing business on the corner of Cherry and MLK was damn near impossible because of the public's perception that this was a most dangerous section of the inner city, but I never really felt threatened in those environs day or night.

Yes, I had some hairy times...some potentially dangerous times, but early on I learned and made certain people knew that I never carried any money when I left the place.

Today, however, even in retirement, I would not go into the city without a firearm at the ready. I am licensed to carry, and practice often. But, having said that, I carry a sidearm wherever I go. There is crime, often violent, within half a mile of where I live. Muggins are not uncommon in parking lots and outside stores. Yours tuly has a gun, always has a gun, and always will as long as the State of Georgia grants me the legal right to carry.

Many, if not most, of the girls and women in our neighborhood have carry permits.

None of this answers the question, 'is the Downtown dangerous?' All it suggests is a way for the individual to protect himself.

Your Glock will come to your aid much more quickly than any officer of the law.

MIKE ADAMS ON
"Hook-UP"
oh you mean
'SHACK UP'

this summer, I got a letter from a young woman who was experiencing deep pain as a result of her decision to abandon the values she grew up with and to adopt the values of the “hook-up” culture, which is the dominant culture on most college campuses. She was a virgin in her 18th year. Now, in her 21st year, her number of sex partners has almost caught up with her chronological age. And she is now beginning to learn that there is no condom for the heart.

Mike Adams, Professor Mike Adams, is back from his war with Muslim extremists and the gang over at CAIR. This time he is speaking out against the intertwined issues spawned by certain modern feminists and the casual ‘hook-up’ society, so prevalent on our college campi.

The piece is short, sweet, to the point. In my opinion it is correct in substance, but contains an underlined implied theology that this old man cannot abide.

So please read it for yourself. Then write Mike and welcome him back to TOWNHALL

The direct link to Mike’s article is UNPROTECTED

Almost sounds like the title of a Film Noir oldie, doesn’t it?

BITS and PIECES

Did you ever have one of those days when you couldn’t….

The hell with it. You have, I have, we shall all again.

For me it’s been one such. But I’m not going to lay it on you like CBS’s Andy Rooney. That clown can really ruin a pretty good mood just with his whining.

Today for me has been a day of no writing, no reading either, but usually by this time of night (and it is getting late) I usually have penned or W.P.’ed several items, even if only emails. Haven’t been near the dad-gummed computer since last night.

FRIDAY NIGHT
LITTLE LEAGUE

The Little League All-Star team from near-by Warner Robins is leading 2-0 in the Second Inning. Make that 3-0. Ooops, 4.

It's a family tradition around here. Rob brings his girls, my grandchildren, over to watch a few hours of kid baseball every August.

Not this year. Rob is coaching two hours away at South Georgia college and his soccer side has its opening scrimmage tomorrow. But he's watching the game and will call before the final out. Great son, that one. So much have we shared over the decades.

I like the little league games for the same reason I would much rather attend a Macon Music match-up than head to Atlanta to see the Bravos in action. There is too much money in professional sports these days. Watching bankrolls on the hoof just has no appeal. But a small town game, with all the local colour and ballyhoo, is a thing of beauty and lets one.

There was a time when I lived within walking distance of Fenway Park and the old Boston Garden. Saw lots of games...it was not a little different thirty-odd years ago.

Kid baseball is like that. It can be LL or a middle or high school game, but it's played more for the love of the game than for a fat paycheck and endorsements up the yazoo. Something a little purer here.

BIBB COUNTY TAXES GOING
UP
UP
AND AWAY

School board this time. 1.5 mil tax increase....that comes to just under an additional 38.00 bucks for a dwelling at 100K.

County raising taxes....city hasn't decided yet, but you can count on it.

It was just a short time ago that we gave this gang of incompetents the power to tax...we voted it....we fell for it. Of course we did, most of us are the end proiducts of a Bibb county education.

It appears the BOE wants about six million bucks more for the schools next year. You know, 'give our kids a quality education'.

Bibb County ranks near the bottom of a state which boasts one of the worst educational systems in the country....making us the bottom of the barrel in an even larger barrel.

Six million bucks won't turn this pig's ear into a silk purse no matter how much lipstick you sslather across those lips. Throwing more money after bad doesn't make much sense except to near-sighted bureaucrats, does it?

NURSING HOME
KITTY

You may recall a news article about a cat a couple of weeks back.

The cat, the resident of a nursing home, had an uncanny ability to seek out and climb onto the bed of the next patient to die lying close through the death process. Pussy got it right something like twenty-five times in a roiw.

Watched a news article about the animal and noticed that my five felines were all sitting directly in front the boobus toobus drinking the while thing in.

That night, a weary me went to bed and didn't get a minute's sleep because the cats, all five of them, took turns lying hopping onto the bed, lying next to me...purring and smiling. Cheshire Cat-like smiling.

Who says animals don't have a sense of humor?

YESTERDAY’S MACON RALLY :
SOLIDARITY
and
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING MUCH

Blame the TELEGRAPH. They started it.

Started writing about Mayor Ellis’ showing ‘solidarity with Hugo Chavez’ when there is no solid evidence that he did any such thing.

And when I say ‘solid evidence’ I mean the document that was sent to Caracas, apparently by a brace of couriers, and delivered, according to the voice who answered Hizzoner’s phone yesterday, ‘to the Mayor if Caracas’.

That Hugo Chavez has apparently (according to internet sources) read parts of Ellis’ statement on a radio program, or at least alluded to its existence proves nothing.

THE KING IS DEAD

A year and one day after I landed on the Ocmulgee’s humid shores, I was on my way to the mall to look over some firearms featured in two sporting goods stores long gone now.

I bought a local paper from one of those boxes that don’t always open when they should and glanced at the headline. It screamed, “THE KING IS DEAD”.

Didn’t give it much pause just then. Figured absent-mindedly that some monarch somewhere had kicked the old bucket, It wasn’t until hours later when I got home that I discovered that ‘The King’ was entertainer Elvis Presley and that Middle Georgia was in deep mourning.

LARRY SABATO’S CRYSTAL BALL
LOOKING AT THE DAILY KOS

The bottom line, for the 2008 election season at least, is that the Democrats will have home-field advantage on the web. The netroots have built a formidable organization of websites, ranging from Daily Kos to Act Blue, with liberal havens like MoveOn.org and MyDD along the way. Democratic candidates, though, can't just expect the bloggers to simply throw their support behind the supposed frontrunner. Kossacks and their liberal blogger brethren expect to be treated with respect and deference, and they have already begun their up-close evaluations of each candidate.

One of my favorite commentators on the political scene is Larry Sabato’s CRYSTAL BALL, a regular newsletter that gives an excellent analysis of campaign trends, candidates, and strategies. In the words of the weekly itself, “As a professor, author, and political analyst, Dr. Sabato draws on over 30 years of experience in monitoring national elections to create one of the most informative and engaging election websites.” Professor Sabato is a frequent visitor to talk TV….and is anything but your run-of-the-mill preaching head.

Today’s lead column deals with the rise of the left leaning ‘Netroots’ cabal, THE DAILY KOS in particular. These blogs are very powerful both in analyzing candidates, and in fund raising. They serve as a very real counterpoint to the more conservative talk radio.

This is a piece of great reading. You can access it for yourself at UNTANGLING THE NETROOTS

One of the saddest thing about modern politics is that there is precious little real communication. Liberal bloggers do not listen to Hannity and Boortz, Limbaughphiles won’t access DAILY KOS. We tend to scream PAST one another, rather than speak TO one another. I think we learn the gentile art of non-communication in our modern American Public Schools.

Today’s Crystal Ball mentions Erick Erickson’s conservative b’log. Erick, for those who do not know, is a newly elected member of the Gang of Fifteen, the Macon City Council.

Professor Sabato himself warns, “Use caution with Sabato's Crystal Ball, and remember: "He who lives by the Crystal Ball ends up eating ground glass!"

Gotta love it.

DOW 13,000
(AGAIN)

"DOW 13,000" sounds pretty good.

Except......

Except we didn't reach it going up, we crashed through that barrier late today heading south.

Not to worry, folks. Throughout my sixty-eight years the Dow and other economic indices have gone up and down, but have always trended on the up side.

If you have invested in stocks, be patient. Don't listen to the nervous nellies whose attention span was ruined in youth by MTV and modern education practices. Sit on your hands and you will end up OK.

If you don't have stock, quitcher bitchin.

The economy is solid.

A CALL TO CITY HALL
JUST WHAT WAS SENT TO CHAVEZ??

About half past eleven I phoned the Mayor's office inside City Hall.

A weary voice answered...female...a gal who had clearly been fielding calls for days, maybe weeks.

Me? I made an effort to be upbeat. Identified myself and my b'log. My first question was, 'Can I get a copy of the Proclamation sent by courrier to Hugo Chavez.

I was corrected in a nunce. "Not to Chavez," the weary woman averred, " but to the mayor of Caracas." She went on to explain that there is simply no copy of the document whatsoever. It sits somewhere in Caracas and nobody even bothered to make a xerox copy of it.

Wow...for two weeks we have been arguing about this damned piece of paper, buit nobody, apparently, has seen it except for hizzoner and maybe one of his henchpersons.

Asked the voice a second question. "How many showed up for the 10:00 AM rally held in front of City Hall? "About twenty-five," was the response.

Wow...twenty-five irate Maconites. Twenty-five good folks who want to tell the world that Mayor Ellis, in declaring solidarity with Hugo Chavez does not speak for our city. Twenty-five souls braving the late morning heat of an intemperate August. Twenty-five people doesn't mean diddly squat, whatever that is.

10:30 WMAC radio news spoke of 'fifty' attendees. When the prying tally light of WMAZ flicked on, I counted about a dozen persons. One Black chap who stood in the background and looked as if he didn't want to be there. Very uncomfortable. Couldn't make out who it was.

Where was FOX NEWS? I dunno.....probably chasing after Paris Hilton or one of the wollywood bimbos.

More later. Local media is terrible when it comes to estimating crowds. I tried to show Liz Fabian how to do it a few years ago, but as solid reporter as she is, she doesn't have a good handle on spacial relations and crowd estimation.

Let's face it, the rally flopped. We don't know what the mayor sent to the mayor of Caracas. The mayor is out of town and unavailable for comment.

And whoever answers the phone in C. Jack's office needs a break.

LATEST FROM THE JPFO
THE ROBOT WAY OF
STEALING OUR FIREARMS

Most of you already know that I belong to several organizations that support the individual's right to keep and bear arms.

The NRA is one such. Pretty good at the lobby game....been around forever. But sometimes they are a little like those gentlemanly GOP local candidates who get the crap kicked out of them every election cycle by street-smart Democrats. Gentlemanly is good....but can go too far.

Another group is the JPFO, or JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FIREARM OWNERSHIP. Much more radicalized, far more edgy, JPFO is a true kick-ass, anti gun control organization that doesn't like to take prisoners and thinks the NRA is a gaggle of tea-sipping old ladies.

Click on MORE to read the lastest missive from JPFO. Read it and then do some thinking. Where will our ultimate loss of liberty come from....from the left where the likes of Hillary Clinton who claims that personal individuality must give way to group cooperation, or from the right, where, under the pretext of protecting us from terrorists, the electronic arm of the Federal Government will be allowed to pry into every facet of our lives.

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LEW ROCKWELL
INVENTED SPELLING IS AN OBSCENITY

Could it be that "Invented Spelling," also known as learning to spell wrong, is part of the giant plan to dumb us all down? Taking a look at Charlotte Iserbyt’s work, one begins to see how it’s in the government’s best interest if we don’t know how to spell. Iserbyt worked with the Department of Education during the Reagan era and had believed that Reagan would shut down the Department of Education. He didn’t, of course, and Iserbyt made some interesting copies of documents that describe plans for government schools, some of which are just now coming to fruition. Guess what? Those plans are not for your children to achieve their full potential.

As many of you know, I was an educator for years….here in Macon and way up north in Massachusetts. Taught Middle School, High School, and just a bit of college. Taught Latin, mostly, with a solid admixture of English, writing, Humanities, history, film making, and a semester of Algebra One where I barely managed to stay two pages ahead of the kiddies. Middle school was my favorite because the children are more receptive to fresh ideas.

Real teaching is exhausting work, for both the docent and the learner. It is not always games and relevance; It is disciplined, yet dynamic. Never structured a unit around ‘fun with the passive periphrastic’.

I gave up teaching to open a bar a decade and a half back. But the subject of education is still near and dear to me. In the United States we are making one hell of a mess of the process of turning out well-read, thinking adult citizens. The more money we spend, the larger the already inflated bureaucracy that is the federal Department of Education grows, we are turning out kids who are largely ignorant of the basics of readin’, writin’, math, and our nation’s history and culture.

Come to today’s dose of LEW ROCKWELL It is written by an educator, Tricia Shore, who is more upset when she sees FUCEN writ large at the misspelling than at the obscenity. We all know that when Dick Cheney says ‘Fuck you’ to a United States Senator he not only means it, but can spell it.

This is great stuff for anybody with an interest in education. Material like this should be required reading in our putrid schools of education, but that will never happen. Please read the piece for yourself at IS YOUR CHILD INVENTING SPELLING? Ms Shore argues most persuasively against the modern concept of ‘Invented Spelling’, which is, after all, just one more way for lazy teachers to pass on laziness to lazy children.

It would be a great thing for government to abolish the Department of Education and turn it over to the states. Sure, there will be some anarchy in the ranks, but in the fullness of time we will get back to our children need to be learning.

Healthy anarchy is not a bad thing per se.

FOLLOW-UP TO LAST POSTING:
CALCUTTA, ANYONE?

Sometimes I wish I didn't switch to DSL.

Since the Fox News production featuring our very own Mayor Ellis and his cozying up to Hugo Chavez, the phone has not stopped ringing.

One caller, a local chap....and no friend of Ellis referred to our fair city as "THE BLACK HOLE OF GEORGIA."

Sad, ain't it???

MACON MAKES IT TO THE BIG TIME
ON FOX NEWS

Yeah us!

We have arrived!!

Lordy Be!!!!

Macon got three free minutes of international publicity on the Fox News Network. Dignitories quoted included Council member Rick Hutto and Councilman elect Eric Erickson.

The subject? You guessed it. Mayor Ellis (shown praying to Mecca after his conversion) and his relationship with Dictator Hugo Chavez.

So the fact that City Council is threatening to deny funds to Hizzoner for any trips to Venezuela....or Cuba, just in case he wants to declare solidarity with Fidel Castro, or anywhere commie-style dictators rule attractewd FNC. Ain't we a lucky city?

And you know what? Fox News could not get its hands on a copy of the mayor's resolution sent to the Venezuelan strong man. That's the document which has caused all the stink.

And that's the rub. Everybody's talking about it, but nobody seems to have read the damn thing.

THE MICHAEL VIC CASE,
(CONTINUED)
LOSING STREET CRED

I have seen several articles recently devoted to the singular fact that the hip hop rapper crowd won't turn in a criminal for fear of losing 'Street Credibility' among the faithful who flock to their violent version of music and lyric.

Thou Shalt Not Snitch!!!

Apparently, taking things to the extreme, some female rapper named 'L'il Kim' went to jail rather than turn in a murderer. Obstruction of justice, I guess. Her praises have been sung ever sice across the ghetto spectrum.

Not snitching has become a point of honor among thugs.

That's about to change. Already one, and shortly two of those accused of Federal dogfighting charges along with Mike Vic are turning state's evidence against the Atlanta Quarterback, laying the heaviest charges squarely on his head.

So much for snitch. Guess these guys dec ided to spend as little time as possible being big Bubba's puppy dog in federal prison.

Wonder how Kim's doing, whoever the hell she is.

A READER RESPONDS TO "SOLIDARITY"
IS MACON DYING ON THE VINE?

I cannot recall doing this before, but here is an extended comment penmned by a reader at the end of my last post on 'Solidarity'.

You may or may not agree with the writer, but it brings to a head some of the issues the media and citizens have been skirting around for eight long years.

His name? You can find that by going to the COMMENTS section of the previous post.

And, please, this is not to say I either endorse or agree with the comments expressed. But they are so important, so basic to the problems we have in Macon, Georgia, so well expressed that I would be remiss if i did not share them with readers.

Is Macon a good place for business? Maybe not. This employer is moving his business elsewhere leaving eighteen folks unemployed.

I certainly do thank the fellow making these comments. It took time and effort. He has obviously given much thought to what he says.

Please feel free to add your own comment or write me at Lucipater@yahoo.com.

A QUESTION OF SOLIDARITY
by
MAYOR C. JACK ELLIS

My email in box runneth over since last week's column on Hizzoner's showing 'solidarity with Hugo CHavez"....did he or din't he?

The mail was of two kinds, generally speaking: (1) First there were the 'thank you for nailing the bastard' kind of posts. I did no such thing? Basically all I did was raise the question as to whether THE TELEGRAPH let its inflamitory headline outstrip the rhetoric of the article itself. (2) Second, incredulous letters....'is this guy Ellis for real?' These came from all over the country. Let it be said right here....Mr. Ellis is very real.

This is a very disturbing email, if true. And I do not know whether it is.

Juval Aviv is an expert on terrorism who has called some amazing shots before terroristic acts took place.

His advice seems simple enough....and absolutely frightening.

Do you have a game plan if the government shuts down our cell phones and blackberries? How will you and your families communicate? My kids used to carry a quarter in their shoes shopuld they ever need to make an emergency.

Dick Morris on
A TIMETABLE FOR NEWT

”More than anything else, however, it is Fred's indecision about running that, combined with speculation that he may not want it badly enough, is cooling GOP ardor. After tying with Rudy Giuliani in Scott Rasmussen's daily tracking polls, he has now fallen seven points back.”

So writeth Dick Morris, who is clearly more at home when expounding about the Clintons as a former insider than he is about politics in general, especially on the Republican side.

Still, he makes a point. If Newt Gingrich jumps into the GOP race his would-be opponents need be showing signs that their campaigns have peaked, begun to fail, or are just wearing out.

What about Fred Thompson, the former Senator high on any conservative’s list? His numbers are reasonable for an undeclared, but the financial support simply isn’t there.

This column has been around for a couple of days….first on Fox News, then on TOWN HALL Read it for yourself at NEWT GINGRICH'S TIME TO JUMP INTO THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE COULD COME THIS FALL

PROFESSOR MIKE ADAMS ON
MORE INTIMIDATION FROM CAIR'S LEGAL TEAM??

A week or so ago I brought you a letter by a Lawyer (Joe Sandler sandler@@sandlerreiff.com) addressed to Ken Robinson president of the YAF….Young Americans for Freedom. My article was entitled I DON'T CAIR AS IN GIVE A DAMN!!! (or a rat's ass) .

Barrister Sandler, representing CAIR) was attempting to stop Robert Spence from delivering a lecture to that organization highly critical of CAIR.

Mr. Sandler didn’t like what Mike Adams had to say and sent the good professor a rather pointed letter which you can read in its entirety by hitting MORE. You can read not only Mr. Sandler’s letter, but Mike’s reaction to it.

Folks, more than at any time in our national history the FIRST AMENDMENT is under attack….I plan to write Mr. Sandler myself with a copy of Mike’s email and invite him to reply. Any reply will be reprinted in this B’log.

Looks like the lawyer chap has had a very bad week.

Read on.

FROM NEAL BOORTZ
RAPID ACCELERATION

From 0 to 200 in under 6 seconds

Mike forgot his wedding anniversary and his wife was really ticked off at him.

She told him, "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in under 6 seconds, AND IT BETTER BE THERE."

The next morning, Mike got up really early.

When his wife woke up a couple of hours later, she looked out the window, and sure enough, there was a small gift-wrapped box sitting in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe, ran out to the driveway, and took the box into the house.

She opened it, and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Mike is not yet well enough to have visitors.

SENTENCING JUVENILES WHO TORCH DOGS

There is less interest in these parts in the Mike Vic dogfighting case than in the situation wherein three boys, ages thirteen and fourteen, doused neighbors' dogs with lighter fluid and set them ablaze.

One child was sentenced a few weeks ago....he received sixty days in the juvie slammer, two years probation and ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation. The local paper reported the kid showed no remorse when sentenced. Castration is, apparently, not a viable option.

Yesterday two other boys were given the same sentence.

The torchings took place in May. According to the TELEGRAPH yesterday:

The 14-year-old admitted to two felony counts of entering an auto, one which happened May 22 and another that happened July 22, as well as one count of shoplifting.

The 13-year-old also admitted to the July 22 entering an auto charge, a shoplifting charge and a 2006 burglary incident.

To me this is, perhaps, the most disturbing thing about the case: THESE BOYS COMMITTED FELONIES AFTER BEING CHARGED IN THE ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE.

Are there parents in the picture? Grandparents? Any adults? Anybody who takes even a modicum of responsibility for these children?

You probably know that I have five cats...each rescued from the mean streets. One, Wiggles, a sweet, fuzzy, loving, darling of an animal saw two siblings thrown into a pen containing several dogs by two pre-teen boys who then timed how long it took to kill the helpless kittens. Wiggles was terrified when i found him. I chased the kids away, took the poor little thing home, and made a formal complaint DFACS who took the children away from a neglectful single parent. Don't know what happened to the kids, but Wiggles is alive and well, happy in a loving home, returning that love a hundred-fold.

We are a happy family, just me and my five cats, each spayed and neutered, each given rabies shots, each enjoyiong the luxury of AC in summer and heat in winter. Spoiled? You bet. Wouldn't have it any other way.

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LEW ROCKWELL
ROCKER GENE SIMMONS:
MARKETING PHENOM

”His common-law wife of 23 years, Shannon Tweed, a former Playmate of the Year, really is like Harriet, if Harriet had been unmarried to Gene by way of Playboy. She brings a kind of sanity to his schemes. Well, maybe not sanity, but at least reality. Unlike Harriet, her solution to his latest project is always the same: to get him to hand her his KISS credit card and go shopping. Watching her trips to Beverly Hills' boutiques is like watching Imelda Marcos on speed.

Gene Simmons (formerly of KISS) is a rock super-star and marketing genius. He also has his very own and popular TV show on A&E.

I have never seen it. And I probably never will. My A&E viewing these days is limited to an occasional foray into SOPRANOS re-runs.

But Gary North is a fan, a big fan. And he, noted economist that he is, has an interesting perspective in THE GENE SIMMONS PHENOMENON The article comes courtesy of LEW ROCKWELL

Good article….interesting. As a once and former educator I am taken with the fact that Mr. North uses Simmons' teen-age son as a kind of metaphor about the good that lies in the future of the human race. But I still will probably not watch Gene Simmons. Seems to me that KISS was popular about the time I left Boston in 1976 and moved to sweltering Georgia. He wore garish make-up and apparently had an enormous tongue.

But you watch the show should you choose…..and please read the article.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE A TERRORIST, DADDY?

”I’m sure many readers have far better ideas. I would love to hear them. Consider that posting them could be a form of public service: I presume that a lot more folks who oppose and fight terror read this blog than actual terrorists. So by getting these ideas out in the open, it gives terror fighters a chance to consider and plan for these scenarios before they occur.

In an Op Ed piece reprinted in the NYTIMES, Stephen D. Levitt suggested (above) that readers contact him with their ideas that terrorists might use to damage the United States. “If you were a terrorist, what would you do?”

It’s simple:

Were I a terrorist, a dirty, rotten, Islamic, Sharia-lovin’, sand pounding terrorist (which I’m not), the first thing I would do is spend all that Saudi oil dough to increase the circulation of the NEW YORK TIMES. I would spare no effort to make that paper required reading in every high school and college in the land. I would subsidize free copies seven days a week for every household and wait until the saturation point is reached where the TIMES is not only the mythic ‘paper of record’, but also the most influential organ in the land.

Once the editorial opinion, OP ED’s, and slanted news stories have lulled the American People into trusting every item in that paper, once the U.S. government and the TIMES think and act as one, I would blow the shit out of the largest military facility I could find.

Please, please click more to read an article from THE WASHINGTON TIMES and the preface that goes with it from THE AMERICAN CONGRESS FOR TRUTH.

It came to me as an email, read in the early hours of the morning, and it was riveting.

The most basic function of any government is to protect it's people. As things are developing both in the Middle East and along the border with Mexico, our government often seems incapable of doing that much. The hell with universal health care if we're all dead, eh?

The introduction is penned by Michael Cutler, the WTIMES piece is by Sara A. Carter. Click on MORE and take a few minutes to get your blood really boiling. I am sending copies of this piece to everybody I know in Congress.

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL

Too much time in the hot sun today.

The schedule called for a few hours spent enjoying my Second Amendment rights at our local shooting range. This to help a thirteen-year-old work toward a shooting merit badge.

And the heat index soared to around 115 degrees.

Learned something today...despite the fact that I was wearing light shorts and a white shirt (One that reads 'hit the road, Jack), despite the fact that my head was covered and I drank water steadily, despite the fact I snacked on salty fare, I came close to heat stroke and, boys and girls, didn't like it one bit.

We seniors have to extra careful in the hot Dixie sun....take no chances, heat advisories are issued to keep us alive.

Be careful out there.

SOME WORDS OF ECONOMIC WISDON
from
FRED THOMPSON

”People have pointed out that journalists were trumpeting economic statistics during the Clinton administration that were not as good as those we have now, hence the “greatest story never told.” I think they want to play down how well we’ve done with lower tax rates, because it interferes with the ability of their friends in Congress who believe that a virtuous society is one that divides the economic pie, taking more out of taxpayer pockets and letting government do more with those dollars. To them, growing the pie means taxing the people more, which then gives the government more money to transfer to others. But conservatives know better. The economy can only really grow when you let people keep more of what they earn.”

Here is a pithy little column by Fred Thompson. THE Fred Thompson.

It originally appeared on his personal b’log, then on today’s edition of TOWN HALL

It is good to hear a politician taking a ‘common sense’ look at current economics.

Check out Senator Thompson’s article for yourself at THE ECONOMIC REALITY

A FIREBOMBING ON BOULEVARD

A house was firebombed two nights ago on the upper end of Boulevard, seven tenths of a mile from where this is being typed.

That end of the street appears to be deep in the heart of ‘gangland’ territory, although officially, according to our lame-duck mayor, Macon has no ‘gangs’, just some ‘wannabe’ kids playing gang game. Some game.

It isn’t gang territory up there, not really. I used to walk my Bubba through that neighborhood all the time. Maybe not any more. Had an apartment not five or six doors from the blaze. Definitely not any more.

A carload of us drove past the house last night on our way to a meeting with our MPD precinct head. There was no sign of any real damage per se to the building.

But, ominously, across a small alley, adjacent to the house lies an apartment complex. In the patio area of that building we saw a dozen or two roughly twenty-something young men naked to the waste milling around in the heat of the sweltering early evening.

Milling about. Each with a scowl on his face. Nary a smile to be anywhere seen. We received a collective glare as if being dared to stop and challenge. Didn’t.

One of my companions raised the question of the Boulevard Fire bombing at the precinct meeting. There was no report available at that moment. Nothing official. Nothing except what had been heard ‘on the news’.

So I checked ‘the news’ this morning. WMAZ (channel thirteen) ran a brief piece, as did WGXA (channel 24) nowhere else could I find a trace of the story…not on other TV channels, nor in the local news daily, THE TELEGRAPH. Can’t speak for radio….listening to less and less of the local product right now.

The scowling guys, their numbers a tad swollen, were still there when we drove back. Still ominous. Still threatening. Still gang-like.

Only seven tenths of a mile up the street.

Is this part of an oft-suspected conspiracy to keep bad, gang related news off the front pages lest we upset the delicate psyches of we, the sheeple, or keep new business away….or just plain carelessness on the part of the media or the MPD? Who knows? Somebody must.

And it all took place only seven tenths of a mile away.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

Thirty-five million Americans are expected to participate in today's NATIONAL NIGHT OUT.

Nobody knows how many will show up at the several locations in and around Macon. But I suspect several thousand folks will be on hand to eat, share, meet with favorite politicians, and enjoy themselves despite the beastly temperatures.

One element won't attend. These are the crooks, the slimeballs, the gangbangers, yeggs, rip-off artists, and bad guys who willingly deprive us of property, dignity, and sometimes life itself.

In a real sense they are like government on all levels who have given themselves the power to tax and assess all in the name of continuation of the status quo. The government uses the power of the gun legally; crooks do not. The end result is often the same.....enforced distributionm of individual wealth.

So be careful....don't empty your neighbods completely because the crooks will be busy exploiting our absences.

Leave a remnant on guard. Around here we don't want any more fire bombings like the one in the early hours of yesterdsay morning not three quarters of a mile from where this is being typed.

More on that story later this morning after I check some reports.

Gardez bien vos maisons, mes amis!!!!

ARTICLE BY MIKE ADAMS
COLLEGE ADMINISTRATORS AND THE NEO PLANTATION MENTALITY

”I fully expect UNC-Wilmington to continue to raise expectations for white people, while lowering expectations for black (and partially black) people. Indeed, winning a Minority Scholarship Award is becoming a lot like winning a Gold Medal at the Special Olympics. Because of this palpable condescension, our college administrators can be fairly characterized as racists despite their feigned interest in the well-being of “disadvantaged” minorities.”

Professor Mike Adam’s latest column in the TOWN HALL lineup shows clearly why I like coming back time and again to this man’s work.

He is an educator. A conservative, pro-gun, anti-establishment pain in the backside, a seditious mole deep inside the knee-jerk, liberal establishment hell bent on turning its young charges into little socialists. That’s why.

And he uses satire effectively as he does here raking his own administration over the glowing coals of ‘apparent diversity at all costs’. Mike also backhands the worn-out notion that we have to ‘reward’ minority students who achieve but average grades within a college or university, patting them on the back for mediocre scholarship, inflating their self-esteem all out of proportion to any real achievement.

Great stuff this. Read it for yourself at A (HALF) BLACK MAN CAN and discover the truth behind the saga of Omar who only wanted to bring writer John McWhorter to UNC Wilmington.

Encouraging Black kids to do less than their best, extolling mediocrity, praising as worthy mere semi-derriere work only tells us that educators have substituted themselves for the white slave owner who never thought ‘his nigras’ could ever survive outside the plantation.

BIBB COUNTY GOP COMES IN TO THE COMPUTER AGE
WELL, SORT OF!!!

Just got a terse, overnight email containing the stunning news that the Bibb County (That's Georgia) Republican Party has a site on MY SPACE. You can access it directly at http://www.myspace.com/bibbgop,

To be fair (if not balanced) the announcement told of a tribute to the late Don Layfield...a pcture essay. And it was very fine, indeed.

Looked at the rest of the site for fifteen minutes or so...kind of fussy. Lots of flags, lots of links, faces, and busy-ness, kind of hard to look at quickly and get a sense of what the hell is going on.

Me, I like simple, direct, uncluttered web sites that take the visitor immediately to the heart and soul of the subject. Too many graphics is ok, I guess, for the MTV generation, but they are distracting to anybody with something called 'an attention span'. (Bless TV and the Department of Education).

I used to be a fairly consistent supporter of all things GOP until the party morphed into something it more akin to the Party of the Mythic Jackass than I would like. The Republican Revolution of 1994 brought lots of hope to the halls of Congress, but over time these guys lost sight of their CONTRACT WITH AMERICA and became lard-assed insiders whose primary function was their own re-election. Republican loss in 2006 was to be expected because the party members were touched by corruption, scandal, and big spending ways.

On the web site there is (screen left) a list of principles and mind sets informing us what it means to be a Republican. In light of the current status of the American Congress, this seems like so much wistful thinking. Nostalgia...don't you love it?

Love to hear from a Libertarian or two on this new, high tech website put forth by the Party of the Imperial Pachyderm.

Or a Democrat. Lots of those guys have a Ivy League education, after all.

DEAR HILLARY
Boy, you really stuck your hoof in it this time
I CAN'T HELP YOU

YOUR ERSATZ HUSBAND....BILL

”The Illinois senator is running ads in Iowa and New Hampshire and has begun closing the gap with Hillary in these key early states. In Iowa, according to the American Research Group's polling, Obama has reduced Hillary's lead over him from 19 points in June to eight points in July. In New Hampshire, the same organization has Hillary's advantage over Obama vanishing entirely. In April, she was 23 points ahead of Obama. In May, her lead dropped to 19. It was only nine points in June and the race was tied at the end of July. In South Carolina, they have Hillary's losing the lead entirely, going from 16 points ahead in June to four points behind in July.”

So says Dick Morris, who, from his vantage point as an ex Clintonista, knows Hillary and Billary better than they know themselves.

Bill is staying aloof from the bitch fight with Obama. Hillary has made a major miscalculation here.

But, boys and girls, read the whole thing for yourselves right here: BILL CLINTON NOT TO MEDDLE WITH HILLARY AND OBAMA FEUD

Ciao

GUESS WHAT I DID TODAY???

You already know, don't you?

Been talking about it for two weeks.

Yep. You Betcha....went to a gun show, probably the best of its kind seen in years around these parts.

Didn't spend a lot of money...but took all morning and half the afternoon to spend it, wandering through the wonderland of displays and like minded humanity.

Might go back tomorrow. Meeting with a former student who wants me to help his son get through a shooting merit badge for scouts. Haven't done one of those for years. Kid is fourteen. I remember him as a toddler careening down the length of my bar at the old CELLAR. Little brat never once spilled a patron's drink.

We bought him his first rifle this morning. Every boy should have one or two.

Brought home some ammo, some metal ammo boxes, a couple of presents and spent less than fifty bucks.

Discount Don strikes again.

I'm heading for bed. Been a long, long day. SOmetimes writing has to take a back seat.

Next Gun Show here in two weeks....will fill you in Monday.

ZZZZZZZZZZZ

AMERICA RULED BY FEAR
GEPHYROPHOBIA
THE FEAR OF BRIDGES

And some of you still think the Federal Government does not rule by fear.

Ye of damned little faith!!!

Since the disaster along the Mississippi River we are hourly bombarded with images of the wreckage and dire predictions about hundreds....thousands of other unsafe spans across this fruited plain.

Local TV and radio shills all the way to the 24/7 news boys are shouting out the official mantra...America's bridges are likely to kill you.

The American left wants to end the war and fix the bridges. A neat kind of ad hoc juxtaposition. Somebody will tell us next that the economy is strong enough to support BOTH war and bridges.

The collapse of the Minneapolis span is a story with legs. But not legs as long as Paris Hilton's.

YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LEW ROCKWELL
DISPENSATIONALISM AND PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST

The other day I suggested that I might put a daily link to one of the more interesting articles appearing on the Lew Rockwell Dot Com website. I asked for suggestions for a title…several came in…still need more. Nothing, including my own, has yet hit me between the eyes. For now let’s call this segment…..YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LEW ROCKWELL.

”While most people would consider the prospect of peace in the Middle East to be a good thing, there are many who find the idea of earthly peace between Jews and Arabs to be of evil origins. Who are the people that get immediately worried or suspicious upon hearing of peace treaties or proposals between Jews and Arabs? Are they members of a hate group of some sort? Violent organizations who promote international chaos? No, ironically enough, it is a large segment of Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians known as ‘dispensationalists.’”

Thus writes a twenty-six-year-old preacher in LEW ROCKWELL DOT COM in a discussion about why certain among American Evangelicals, called ‘Dispensationalists, do not want to see peace in the Middle East. The young man’s name is Bill Barnwell.

ANSWERING THE RUSSIAN CLAIM TO THE NORTH POLE

Earlier this week Russia (NOT The Soviet Union) planted a flag at the North Pole. As a result they claim the whole area for themselves.

Just like the explorers of old.

"Dr. Livingstone, I presume."

Here's an idea from Neal Boortz. Let them have it. Give them the whole damn thing.

But then....since we planted a flag on the moon back in 1969, by the same reasoning, we own that whole body.

All of it. Including the wealth of minerals underground.

Keep your grubby paws off our moon, Putin, or else.

TOMORROW (SATURDAY) AND SUNDAY
MATT EASTMAN’S GUN SHOW
MACON COLLISEUM

It’s a little like Christmas around here.

Christmas when you are a kid and still believe in the Jolly Old Elf.

Christmas filled with that delicious, small-child anticipation of a day filled with wonder, warmth, and goodies too many to contemplate. Sleep does not come easy.

Christmas is for children. But adults have their equivalents….for some it’s shopping for a new car or appliance, for me it’s a good gun show.

And Matt Eastman brings us the biggest, housed in a huge cavernous room filled with veritable groaning boards of displays all for perusal and sale.

Guns, knives, clothing, peripherals, all sorts of stuff.

Tell you the truth, I don’t always spend heaps of money at these things. Some ammunition, usually, a trinket or toy or two, maybe something for the grandkids, occasionally just a certain ‘right’ used firearm that I can’t get through local dealers. Though once in a great while I exhaust the budget for two or three months. Never know when it’s a few weeks of macaroni and cheese.

For those with any interest in hunting or the shooting sports, Macon’s Colliseum is the place to be tomorrow and/or Sunday. Remember, bring the kids. They will probably have more fun than you will. Great activity for the whole family. Kids under twelve get in free as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult.

See you there….Look for an old man in a battered NRA hat.

Don’t miss this one.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER DEFENDS
BOOZY ASTRONAUTS

”Cut these cowboys some slack. These are not wobbly Northwest Airlines pilots trying to get off the runway and steer through clouds and densely occupied airspace. An ascending space shuttle, I assure you, encounters very little traffic. And for much of liftoff, the astronaut is little more than spam in a can -- not pilot but guinea pig. With opposable thumbs, to be sure, yet with only one specific task: to come out alive.”

Charles Krauthammer is one of my favorite columnists anywhere.

I don’t include his opera very often in this b’log simply because it is so widely disseminated elsewhere. Here the focus is on lesser luminaries like Mike Adams, a talented writer, but one not widely circulated.

Krauthammer is not only a columnist, but also a prolific author, who appears as a regular on FNC, where the powers that are should drop the likes of Kondrake* and Barnes*, and make greater use Juan Williams, Charles K., and Mara Liasson whose opinions are not as knee-jerk boring.

So today Krauthammer weighs in on tippling astronauts and launches into an attack on the current NASA program which seems unlikely to lead us into space, but rather tether us to a low earth orbit with the shortest umbilical cord possible.

Found this AM on TOWN HALL you can read it for yourself at IN DEFENSE OF DRUNK ASTRONAUTS

Enjoy

* If you have never seen the horrific ‘The Beltway Boys’, your life must be blessed, indeed.

JUNK EMAIL IS SO PREDICTABLE

A week ago most of my Yahoo junque mail had something to do with 'enlargement'. This week the main plug is for 'casino'.

Don't know if there is a connection...an enlarged casino, perhaps. Huindreds and thousands of little mailings about engorged gambling facilities.

Most of my junque mail goes to a separate place somewhere in the computer never to be viewed by human eyes. But a couple of accounts seem to throw important stuff down that same infinite rat hole so I check them regularly.

Enlargement.....casino. What comes next? No idea. Maybe a hideaway vacations home, how about finding the love of your life, need a place to retire? Where does a person find time to read and answer these things?

On the net these things come in waves. They never stop no matter how powerful a spam filter you have.

Hate that stuff.

MORE POISON FROM RED CHINA
AMERICAN PARANOIA

First it was pet food made with grain imported from China.

A few months ago we found it was killing our precious pets...big recall. Phe pet food shelves stripped. Baaaad.

And now its toys...innocent toys, toys for appreciative, wide-eyed children.. Dora, Elmo, Big Bird and others decorated with lead paint, sure to kill our little ones. Made, you guessed it, in China.

What's going on?

Simple...our paranoia is now complete.

Wasn't complete when we knew that the French and Germans hated us and our culture. Wasn't even complete when we learned that Bin Laden, Al Quaeda, the Saudi Royal Family, and Sheik Hassan Ben Sober want to kill, enslave, or convert us to their special brand of hate-filled, primitive Muslim religion.

Now the Chinese want to kill our pets and poison our children. ANd just might do it one of these days. the Feds don't test much of the food coming into the country.

Voila paranoia.

A boycott of the 2008 Olympics seems like a great idea right now.

I HATE REPUBLICANS
JUST HATE DEMOCRATS A LITTLE MORE
(CONTINUED)

Luke Angelo, the founder of this website had a great little phrase he used from time to time…usually in the presence of politicians, windbags, the self-important, and the pompously learned.

In it’s final form, cleaned up considerably for a family b’log, it runs: I HATE REPUBLICANS, I JUST HATE DEMOCRATS A LITTLE MORE.

You get the idea…we are, largely, anti politician. Not anti-political, please, but anti politician all the while recognizing the necessity of some manifestation or, perhaps, incarnation of that beast. The evil that men do certainly does live after them. Even some of the best and most honest among those whom we elect are corrupted by power and money.

THIS IN FROM LEW ROCKWELL
THE FEAR FACTOR
by Ron Paul

”To calm fears, Americans accepted the Patriot Act and the doctrine of pre-emptive war. We tolerated new laws that allow the government to snoop on us, listen to our phone calls, track our financial dealings, make us strip down at airports and even limited the rights of habeas corpus and trial by jury. Like some dysfunctional episode of the twilight zone, we allowed the summit of our imagination to be linked up with the pit of our fears.

Here is another slant on a subject we have touched on here quite recently, namely that one of the ways government controls us is through fear. It’s a concept that goes back to the cave-man, of course: governments tend to use fear of the unknown or of the anticipated hurt to keep up the level of support of the peasantry needed to function. That’s not always a bad thing, by the way. A populace fat, dumb, and drunk does not lend itself to national achievement.

This time the writer is Ron Paul, the fellow being touted by Libertarians as the only truly viable Presidential Candidate among all contenders. His essay is brief and to the point. You may read it here: THE FEAR FACTOR

I found it on LEW ROCKWELL DOT COM earlier today.

FYI….I am considering adding a link to one Rockwell essay of my own choosing to this website each and every day starting very soon. Maybe call it something like OUR DAILY ROCKWELL….hell, you suggest a title. You can do better than I.

Ciao

COMING TO A WAL-MART NEAR YOU

Some time ago our local Wal-Marts stopped selling firearms.

It was with some trepidation, therefore, that I went to the toy aisles this morning in search of a realistic toy weapon for a youngster about to turn four.

Before you get too excited, I asked the little fellow three days ago what he wanted for his birthday. His answer, 'A REAL GUN!!! His whole family is into firearms and hunting. I figured a REALISTIC GUN might do the trick. No harm in trying.

SO to the toy aisles. And search...nada. Couldn't find a damn kid rifle or pistol anywhere. So, ask a clerk. She couldn't find the toy gun section either. Neither could her two cohorts summoned to aid the seeker. Call the department head.

The young 'associates' showed some confusion when they heard me saying things like, "I wasnt a realistic rapid fire weapon for a four-year-old', 'You can't familiarize a kid with firearms at too early an age', 'I don't want something that looks like it comes from Matel, it needs to look like a genuine M-16 or or at least a Smith and Weston.
