At six this morning two of our neighbors in the area at the head of Senate Place were surprised to see a young man peering through their window.
One of the good guys gave chase and pursued the 'wannabe' gangsta across Boulevard, through a yard, losing him in the alley that runs between Boulevard andf Nottingham.
The police were summoned immediately. There was no trace of the perp.
His description: YOUNG, BLACK MALE SIXTEEN OR SEVENTEEN YEARS OF AGE, THIN, POSSIBLY SIX FEET TALL, SHAVED HEAD WAS PINSHAPED, HE WORE CAMO SHORTS AND NO SHIRT.
L:et's continue to be vigilant and watchful. Remember we have a meeting one week from today at the usual time and place. We need to have as many of us on hand as possible.
Rick Hutto of the Macon City Council has said he will join us.
Come yourselves and bring the kids.

A HANGING IN TEXAS
Sadly a mother of four little girls hanged herself and the children in a closet.
Their bodies were discovered yesterday. Only an eight-month-old baby survived.
Three dead kids. The crime is reminiscent of the drowing deaths of several children by their mother, also in Texas. None of the poor little ones survived.
Motherhood gone terribly awry.
Every one of us has said at some point, "I'm gonna kill that kid." Or, from the other side, "My Dad's gonna kill me when I get home." But, hell, that's just an expression that has probably been around since the eighteenth century. Nobody ever acts on it. Nobody really means it. Our children are too precious.
Except in some cases, cases where the parent, especially a mother, that fountain of life, nurturer of generations, symbol of all that should be good about the human race, deliberately takes the life of a child.
I cannot begin to understand it, folks. The circumstances are beyond anything this old man can imagine.
Murdering children is not a modern phenomenon, by the way, it is as old as is our race. It remains largely a societal taboo and therefore not understood.
Sad.

THEY"RE RIOTING IN CARACAS
Citizens from all walks of life are rioting against the socialistic government of dictator Hugo Chavez. It is getting messy in that oil-rich nation.
The reasons are complex, of course, but the straw that broke the back seems to have been Hugo's attempt to squelch an opposition television station and the possibility of shuitting down yet another.
The riots threaten to bring down the Chavez regime or cause it to use such overwhelming military force against its own citizens that the myth of its benign governance will come to an abrupt and tragic end.
Rioting over television? Impossible?
Maybe not. What would Americans do if some government lackey were to suggest that AMERICAN IDOL be dropped precipitously? Would they riot?
I don't have a clue. It might depend on what immediate pacifier could be located using the family remote control. That and would Americans be willing to hoist themselves from their lounge chairs to take to the streets.

It hasn’t been entirely peaceful in our peaceable kingdom of late.
Besides the graffiti on Senate Place early Saturday afternoon, the pick-up of one resident was hijacked Sunday evening by force in the Kroger parking lot. This is currently under investigation by the police as we type. The victim has the truck back in fact and in tact, fortunately.
It is a good time for our next irregularly scheduled meeting. President Merry Bacon has scheduled it for Thursday, June 7th. at the usual place and time Thursday. If you need to be told where that is, send me an email.
Boulevard is not going to hell in a handbag, folks. We have a particularly wonderful place to live. But, of course, each and every one of us must be on guard to protect the safety and property of our neighbors. It is the neighbors that make this place so unique.
Mark your calendars….save an hour or two….and meet with us on the seventh. Bring the kids. Get them involved as the good citizens they are.

WHEN PORN STARS GET OFFENDED, THAT'S WHEN I'LL STOP LOVING YOU"..great title for a country/western* hit, eh? But you never heard of it.
How about performance artists like C. Snatch Z. and Miss Dirty Martini? Never heard of them either.
The song title was the long-ago brainchild of an undergraduate, now professor (but not 'full' professor) Mike Adams, quondammember of a popular country/western* band (name not disclosed). The names are actual names used or assumed by members of a troupe called, collectively, "The Sex Workers Art Show", which is making the rounds of college campi, frequently at taxpayer expense.

Not quite. My internet access has been down for a day and a half. My fault. I cancelled aol and thought hooking Bell South DSL would be a snap. Six hours later I was a confused, frustrated drooling idiot. So, instead of shooting the computer, I did the brave thing and ordered up a Bell South techie to install.
TOOK HIM LESS THAN FIVE &)$@*(& MINUTES. If that long.
Seems like I was confused by the directions provided on the Disc-thingy Bell South provided. You all know that yours truly is something of a technophobe, afraid of new technology, comfortable with the way things were in the Middle Ages, maybe.

We have, he told us in a news conference now almost two years ago following a stabbing at the Mall, only 'Wannabes' His lap poodle, Chief Burns agreed with him.
But since that time a 'gang task force' has been established within the MPD...wonder why?
Just this afternoon some young punks were chased out of the neighborhood after they spray painted some gangsta symbols on the pavement and sidewalk of Senate, a block from here. The police were called and chase given.

"The hypocrisy of Hillary Clinton in voting against funding is stunning. In 2002, she voted for the war. When we found no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, she reaffirmed her backing for the war. Dozens of times she has stated and restated that she would never agree to a timetable for withdrawal and that she would never vote to cut off funding while we had troops in harm’s way. Now she has gone back on all her nevers and cast precisely the vote she said she would never cast.
We have often said that Mr. Morris is at his best when writing about the Clintons, Hillary, especially. As a former Clintonista, he has an insider's knowledge of the strengths and weeknesses of the woman who would be president.
Today's article, HILLARY’S HYPOCRISY ON IRAQ, while it concentrates on the lady's 'hypocrisy', shows that her latest vote, that against temporary funding of the war, might actually gain her the nomination and the presidency.
It is well worth reading while you are thinking good thougths this Memorial Day about our men and women in uniform.

THE SANDS OF IWO JIMA
I first saw the John Wayne epic, THE SANDS OF IWO JIMA, in 1949 as a boy of ten. It was the pinnacle of my cinematic experience to date.
It was riveting there in a dark, small town movie theatre...a simple, older building unlike the modern Mega Plex theatre that herds and directs humanity in and out, counting people with turnstyle efficiency.
It was a wonderful experience. The battles of Tarawa and Iwo were still fresh in our pre-teen minds. The war was only four years away. The unpopular kid still got to play 'The dirty Jap' in our daily war rituals.
I remember shedding a tear when Sergeant Stryker (Wayne) was shot (in the back, of course) on the slopes of Mount Surabachi. Tears do not come easily to small boys in the company of their peers. I was grateful that the enveloping darkness hid my weakness, never imagining that other small boys were in the same, unmanly boat.
Much has happened in fifty-eaght years. I am watching the very same movie on one of those delightful cable channels that specialize in old films. SANDS has gotten better with age and what I hope is my own journey through manhood.
I wonder if i shall weep just a little once again at the conclusion.

This is a great little piece from the undeclared Mr. Thompson.
It appeared this morning in TOWNHALL and kind of caught my attention.
There was a time, not long ago...and I was part of it, when a kid graduated from High School with a solid grounding in civics and American History and was, like it or not, exposed to even more when he reached college. Back in 'my day' I recall fondly an optional semester taking a course in constitutional law taught by a brilliant chap named Maynard Smith. It was tough and grueling, but exciting for it put real flesh on the bones of of the United States Constitution we had studied in high school.
I REMEMBER by Senator Thompson is a great read this MEMORIAL DAY. Proud to be an American, he is concerned with those who who blame our nation for all the world's ills.

According to Dick Morris it is a scandal riddled company that has showered the Clintons, Bill Especially, with monies, largess, perks, and gifts. Apparently InfoUSA collects data on vulnerable, senior citizens and sells that data to unscrupulous predators.
Thus far Hillary has avoided disclosing just how much her husband and her campaign are in debt to a company whose practices are shady, to say the least. But full disclosure of all campaign contributions is schedlued soon.

He went after the stupidity of the imprecise, poorly worded congressional bill that would 'punish oil dealers who 'price gauge'. The bill is one of those feel good pieces of legislation that is so full of loopholes as to render it meaningless. The President has hinted at a possible veto now that he has gotten his way from congress on war funding.

Slowly, ever so slowly, the details of the convoluted Senate immigration (or ‘Amnesty’) Bill, if you will, are coming into focus.
The following seems clear at this point in time:
(1) The effort to ramrod the thing through the Senate has brought great suspicion upon the proposed legislation and on several key senators, Kennedy and McCain especially.
(2) There are too many illegals in this country right now to deport en masse. Nobody knows how many there are. Employers claim they are necessary to our economy. Their sheer number is overwhelming.
(3) The federal government has long been limp-wristed when it comes to border security. The bill proposes a kind of incremental ‘certification’ by the president that the southern border is secure which is smoke and mirrors all wrapped up in a think layer of poppycock. Border security must be the main provision of any kind of immigration bill. Without tangible proof that the government is protecting us, any attempt at immigration reform is doomed.
(4) Then there is the question of the Northern Border with Canada. We shouldn’t fear hordes of Canadians crossing the line, but three thousand miles of border-in-name-only gives lots of opportunity for Muslim terrorists to enter.
It is my guess that this proposal tries to do too much, to be all things to all people, to provide a sense that Washington is actually trying to protect us when it lacks the will to do anything wqhatsoever.
The government, folks, is broken.....like at no time in our national history.

The pup seems to be a docile, sweet tempered soul, already happy with the youngsters. It is obviously well socialized.

It was getting dark. I had just stepped out of the shower when an anxious knock was heard at the door.
I yelled 'just a minute, please, dressed in a hurry and opened the door.
There were four young kids whom I did not recognize and a large, mostly black dog that looked something like a cross between a Labrador and a water spaniel. Didn't recognize the dog, either.
The boys, two about thirteen, the others nine or ten had trudged for miles trying to locate the animal's home. They had, you see, found him wandering about their neighborhood, tired, disoriented, obviously lost. The children had spent the last three hours trying to find the owner.
The dog? From what I can see....a young male, good tempered, socialized, and adorable. No...I won't with five cats.
We don't often see this kind of selfless, good natured dedication to such a worthy clause by our young. Most of the neighborhood kiddies hereabouts might give an adult a hand once in a while provided it doesn't inconvenience them or take them from play, or video games.
Two of the boys, brothers, are taking the pup home for the night. SURPRISE, MOMMY!!!! I gave them my phone number and said I would call the humane society in the morning.
What a contrast this is with the tale of three boys who burned stray dogs alive.
I think we can find a good home for this fine fellow if we cannot locate his owner, eh?

I am not a fan of the U.N. It is an organization rife with corruption, cynicism, anti U.S.agenda, and the crassest kind of demagoguery.
Senator Fred Thompson, a possible GOP candidate for president has an interesting take on this organization in light of the widespread and largely ignored trafficing in slavery which makes the even the horrific importation of Black Africans into the Western Hemisphere centuries ago blanch by comparison.

ANIMAL CRUELTY IN MACON

THE STORY THAT WON'T GO AWAY
This will mark the third article I have written in light of the horrific dog torching episodes reported last week.
You remember, three young teens, thirteen and fourteen, apparently doused a mongrel dog with lighter fluid and set it ablaze. The animal died; the boys were arrested and released to their parents' care and custody.
Some custody.
The issue came up again over the weekend from numerous letters received by THE TELEGRAPH and this morning on Jami Gaudet's WMAC radio show.
One of Jami's guests was Jim Johnson, the city's director of Animal control, a man with whom I have had quite a bit of contact a few months ago when a pair of marauding dogs were slaughtering cats in the neighborhood. Mr. Johnson is a man of his word, a professional, a chap with an almost impossible job to do.
The city executed last year , we learned, 2853 dogs under the egis of animal control.
That comes to an average of just under eight dogs a day. I can understand the old, sick, and infirm....probably better to end their suffering. But the overwhelming majority are young animals whose only crime is to be unwanted. Or living on the street. Or given up by their damn owners because they are unwanted anyymore. Maybe the cute puppy is just too much as it gets older.
I have no use for the individual who takes on the responsibility of an animal or a child then gives up on him when the adorable little thing turns into a feisty teen....or the canine equivalent thereof.
Spay and neuter....who wants to have unwanted litters? I have five cats...four males and a lady...all neutered....all indoor/outdoor animals. It's sometimes a little difficult (cats do not herd well), but I get them all inside the home by three or four in the afternoon. They do not get out at nigyt. Why? Safety, of course. I don't want to put my babies in harm's way, nor do I wish to inflict them on neighbors in the wee early hours.
Neutering is a kindness. Removing sex from the equation is not only kind to the animal, it makes the owner's life a hell of a lot easier.
Eight dogs a day to the gas chamber....who knows how many cats? At least mine were rescued from the mean streets.

Jimmy Carter is a very old man whose grasp of current realities are blurring into the failure of his own, single term administration.

Of British Prime Minister Tony Blair Mr. Carter recently said, ""Abominable. Loyal. Blind. Apparently subservient. And I think the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world," (This on BBC Radio)
One of the ironies of any Carter dealing with the Middle East is that fact that through his own weakness in the Iran Hostage affair, his inability to use either the military or diplomacy, the seed was planted among Muslim extremists that the U.S. was a paper tiger.

WHat is not widely known is that the document, the most basic underpinning of America's vast bureaucracy is, in a word, subversive.
For instance:

Sounds like high treason.
Supposing the boys at Homeland Security find it? Not likely, most of them are products of our public schools.

I wrote Senator Thompson the other day saying that I appreciated an article he wrote. Further, I told him he would be, should he choose to run for president, would likely get my vote and support. If he doesn’t choose to run I would do a write-in for Joe Lieberman.
Yes, Joe Lieberman. Independent Senator from Connecticut. The guy slated for oblivion by the Governor Dean wing of the Democratic Party and by the more liberal bloggers like froth_on.org and analretentive.com. I voted for Nader (write-in) in 2000.
Right now I find myself tuning out of the political process. This for the first time in my entire adult life. It is too soon to be running for the presidency with the election a full eighteen months ago. Many of us no longer feel the need for a daily dose of political fix. In fact we are sick and tired with the way this nation is conducting the entire process. The process might even be the proof that American style Democracy doesn’t work.

The senator notes that 'military history' is never or rarely taught in U.S. colleges any more. Back in my day, the story of war was woven into the fabric of human history. Since our most primitive ancestors strode the savannahs of Africa propagation and continuation of the species, war, and recreational sex, and food have certainly been our most common pursuits.
It is a fascinating piece. I wrote the Senator telling so, but complained that I wish it had been longer. Why has war been eliminated from undergraduate history. Do we marginalize military activity by denying its existence? What fools we mortals be!!!

I don't know!
Don't know if the bill before the U.S. Senate constitutes 'Amnesty' for illegal aliens or not. The bill as is written runs somewhere between three hundred and a thousand pages...loaded with legalese, obfuscation, and all matter of codicils that have no place whatsoever in an immigration proposal.
One of the things that worries me the most is the simple fact that our one hundred elected senators, whose approval record lies womewhere just below that of the President, are trying to railroad the damn thing through before the Labor Day recess. DON'T TRUST THESE CLOWNS.
Heard Newt Gingrich say, "a sellout of every conservative principle.". To some leaders it's a 'start', to others 'the time is now'.
But...and this is one huge but....I will bet that not one of those out in b'logland, talk radio, of 24/7y news entertainment have read the thing. Might as well add our Senators to that...not one in one hundred has ready anythin but carefull culled excerpts.
So let's catch our collective breaths, slow down a little, and wait until some fairly cool heads have had a chance to digest the entire package. This is why we need to contact our Senators and urge them not to rush to judgement.
Slow it down. Make sure there isn't any flab, imprecise language, hidden agenda, lard-laden pork, or anything else contraproductive to America's best interests in this dubious package.

I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of talk radio.
People like Savage, Hannity, Randy Rhodes, and Limbaugh would be laughable if there were not folks who take them seriously. For yours truly they hold no interest. Same goes for the likes of O'Reilly and Keith Olbermann on the tubus boobus.
Talk about agenda.
But, the Pride of Atlanta, Georgia's own, Neal Boortz is a talk show host of another stripe. He is entertaining, acerbic, and uses logic, learning, and legal training more than he does emotion and knee-jerk talking points.
And he hits hard. Luke wrote an article several years back called, "NEAL BOORTZ KICK'S BILL O'REILLY'S POMPOUS ASS", which enjoyed some popularity as well as some notority. Boortz appeared (for the only time) and left the stage with O's calling him a 'vicious son of a bitch'. Cultured Atlanta won the day over working class, Catholic, egotistical Long Island that night.
Talkmeister Boortz is, above all, entertaining. Many of us like him because he shows no fear on air but will go after any target of opportunity.
Until recently, that is.
Two weeks ago he asked his web-guru to avoid sending him any of the numerous hate mails his website receives daily. No more. Neal was sick of the negativity and thought (he told us) he would be better off if he avoided all such broadsides.
That upset many of the faithful. We like our guy responding to orchestrated hate mail..
Today, however, he went a step further. Neal told his producer, the lovely Belinda Skelton, not to take any calls from Biblical 'Creationists'. She argued lamely that it could put some fire among the show's listeners. Neal countered that he didn't want any more calls from committed fundamentalists, those super Christians who think every word in the bible is there at the will of Yahwey no matter how illogical, contradictory, or unscientific it may be.
Holier than shit!!!
So on came Newt Gingrich and I simply turned Neal off. Maybe the poor fellow is, like many of us, too old to be spoiling for a fight.

My take on Morris generally is that he is at his best when discussing Hillary and her campaign, simply because he is so thoroughly familiar with the usual Clinton(ista) mudus operandi. After that his thoughts about Democrat candidates in general is solid. But his knowledge of what is going on in the rarified realms of the GOP is only above average, something that you or I could do....much keen insight into the obvious.

TEEN DOG TORCHING UPDATE
It is very likely that the three boys, ages thirteen and fourteen, apprehended yesterday in the torching murder of an unidentified dog, have done it before.
From an article appearing in this morning's TELEGRAPH (and heard over WMAC AM radio) it appears probable, according to neighbors, that the teen trio torched a pet two month old puppy which had to be destroyed as it lay convulsing. It is further indicated that they may be involved with other inhuman acts of terror.
Some media idiot will write on the occasion of their intiial judicial 'hearing' scheduled for the twenty-fifth of this month, that they were 'good kids', possibly churchgoing, possibly good athletes or students. That same media moron will go on to claim that there simply were 'no signs' the trio was capable of committing such atrocities.
We seem to have trhe signs already, don't we? How did hese little bastards fall 'twixt the societal crack? When I discuss the situation with my neighbors, universally the question is raised, "where were the parents"? Where, indeed. Do the children have parents, real parents, parents with enough balls to put a stop to young criminal behavior. Why did no one report the earlier cruelties? Did anybody inform the parents of the boys? Or do we go through life with blinders when it comes to criminal activity so close to home?
Their next step might just be to douse a two-year-old toddler with lighter fluid and set him ablaze just to watch him run around and scream. It is simply to terrible to consider.

As conservatives, our job in responding to gay activists is to prevent them from obtaining “rights” they do not actually have under our constitution. Although I am opposed to sodomy laws - like the one at issue in Lawrence v. Texas - I am also opposed to the idea that there is a constitutional right to sodomy. Similarly, I am all for crunchy peanut butter but I do not think my constitutional rights are violated when only smooth peanut butter is available.
Professor (but not full professor Mike Adams) has been more out of the loop lately than in it. He simply has not been as prolific over at TOWNHALL as usual.
I suspect that part of the reason is that Mike is involved in a lawsuit against the university that employs him (UNC Wilmington), because, he calims, he has been denied a Full Professorship despite the fact that he has done more professionally than necessary to earn the promotion.

This morning I picked up a rifle left Saturday at a neat gun shop south of the city called THE RIFLEMAN. The work these folks did was excellent and the price was very reasonable.
The firearm was one of those WW2 Russian military affairs I have been buying of late for my kids. These are good, solid guns with lots of history woven into their integrity. I had stupidly caused a problem by jamming the barrel and could not clear it myself. It fix by early Monday morning. Service, good service, doesn't come any bettere than this.
These guys have done one other job for me about three years ago. I have one of the original Ruger Mini-14's whose bolt was shattered thirty years back. The gun has been sitting in a closet, parts became lost; Ruger refused to fix it (although they would trade me that broken gun for a new one and about $350.00 cash). No thanks). Took the piece to several gunsmiths, nobody could do the work. That is until I took it to THE RIFLEMAN. Damn, those guys machined new parts, assembled the rifle, and test fired it in less than a week. Cost? A mere fifty bucks for something that is now a fully functioning heirloom.
Looking for a firearm or a gunsmith? This is one shop I can recommend most enthusiastically.
The gunowner side of me is a very happy camper this evening.

The utter severity of the sentence is mitigated somewhat by the fact that the deranged duo will continue to receive their pay. CBS radio, not to be outdone, and in light of its firing of long timer Don Imus for 'Nappy Headed Hoes'. is doing nothing to the pair.
Of course Al Sharpton and the slightly reverend Jesse Jackson haven't taken to the streets on this one, even in defense of the reputation of a prominent Black Woman, Condoleeza Rice, Secretary of State.

Area readers most likely know that three young teens, thirteen and fourteen, have been arrested and charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals. The victim was a mixed-breed dog which apparently had been doused with cigarette lighter fluid and set ablaze. The animal died despite the best efforts of the fire department to keep it alive.
Of course the names of the children have not been released due to their age.
Those of us who have and love pets cannot fathom how anybody at any age can do something so outrageous, so cruel to a poor animal.
Are these children monsters? Or did they simply do something on a spur of the moment dare? I don't know. I usually hold out for a public flogging on the steps of the county courthouse when something this horrific happens.
Stretched out across the top of my desk is one of my five cats, himself rescued from certain, horrific death at the hands of abused and abusive children a year. He purrs as my right hand absent mindedly stroks his silky fur, opening one trusting eye to thank me for the attention. I came along short minutes after his litter mate had been tossed into a yard containing several dogs. The animal was killed within seconds. The kids were re[orted to DFACS and removed from a terrible home situation.
Animals, pets especially, usually bring out a child's better nature. A kid who learns to take responsibility for a furry friend usually rises a rung or two on the ladder of human equation .
Why do kids torch a poor, dumb animal? I don't know. WHy do they kill? Why do they steal, rape, join gangs, disobey parents and teachers? Do these boys have fathers taking an active role in their moral development? Have there been past signs pointing to the possibility of such cruelty? Are these boys now throwaway members of society? Can they be turned around?
I don't have a clue. All I know is that a dog has been burned alive and three young teens have been arrested, accused of the crime.
And my heart aches.

The Tarnished reverend Victor Hunt is running in the upcoming primary against long time incumbent Elaine Lucas.
The man's candidacy has been in the works for some time. Our sources tell us that the Rev. Vick was personally selected by Hizzoner Mayor Ellis or certain of his cronies to punish Ms. Lucas for her strong stance against the imperial hizzoner. Ms. Lucas has long been a thorn in the side of Ellis' administration for very good reasons. The selection of Hunt was stupid mistake.
The junque coming out about Hunt's personal life should be enough to sink his chances of geretting elected to anything in any place at any time.
He apparently owes more than eleven thousand bucks in back child support, making only occasional payments toward the upkeep of a now nineteen-year-old daughter ($200.00 in April; another $175.00 in December).

For the past several months I have been tutoring a seven (now eight)-year old in reading.
The boy is homeschooled and was having some problems turning sounds into letters and letters into words. In less than three months he went from a pre-reading situation to a point where he can master books on an early third grade level. We can call him, oh, say, ‘Nate’, for I have promised his parents anonymity….the kid could care less.
The method? Nothing in particular, just old-fashioned drill, lots of reputation, repetition, and not a little ‘because I said so’. Kid loves it, is proud of himself, which demonstrates that genuine ‘self-esteem’ is dependent of achievement and not a neurotic parent who wants a child ‘to feel good about himself’ without benefit of corresponding accomplishment.
There is another factor involved in what seems to be this boy’s rather extraordinary progress. I am writing his reading text….and a hell of a piece of politically incorrect treasure it is.
After perusing what was available out there in the vast educational wasteland, I came to the conclusions that public, even private school reading primers were pieces of garbage. The christian schools were marginally better but you have to wade through the religious propaganda to get results. Dilemma!! Write your own!!!
So I am. It is a work in progress tentatively called ‘A Politically Incorrect Reading Primer for Kids Who Are Prefer To Shun Government School Crap’. The kid loves it. His parents are thrilled with his progress and your truly is having a ball.
Oh!! Thought you would never ask. Sure click more and see a few excerpts. But, don’t tell your kids. They may revolt. I found my kids revolting quite often.

LUKE IN HELL
Any number of astute readers have been asking of late 'where in the world is Luke Angelo'?
Sic Transit....the kid has graduated from college (with a most excellent GPA, I might add) and is moving on with his life. To the best of my knowledge he never spent a night in jail or any time on any manner of disciplinary probation.
I checked the archives and it was noted a few months back that he would be leaving us to go to grad school or military service. Well, friends, he's off. Exactly where he does want anybody outside the family to know yet. He's starting an entirely new life and wants to do so on his own.
Change is the only constant in the human equation. His leaving home meant change here just as did Rob's move from Macon to Douglas, Georgia to take up new coaching duties a year ago. The house is empty save for me and five felines. It means new challenges and circumstances. Failure to meet change means extenction when a speciaes is at risk, creeping atrophy for the individual.
So right now, Luke is happy, Rob is happy in his new job, the cats are happy, and so am I. Life is good....this old bird not yet ready for any alternative.
Years ago as a teen Luke was writing for a left wing web site out on the west coach. (He their token conservative). He sent a silent picture still picture of a young boy actor dressed in a WW1 navigator's hat. The guy that ran the site added some mojo to the pic. The result is below.We call it 'Luke In Hell'.

A quick check of the old calendar tells us it is less than four weeks into Macon's premier kid-oriented event, THE GAUDET ALL-STAR BASEBALL CAMP.
It is scheduled for Friday, June 8th with a rain date of Saturday, June 9th.
The brainchild of Doctor Jim Gaudet, a former big leager himself, and his wife Jami, local media guru, the camp is now in its twenty-first year and going stronger than ever. Free to all area kids, it has become an important tradition that has touched in positive ways lthousands of boys and girls and theirfamilies.
I have been to quite a few of these wonderful affairs and serve as a semi-official, volunteer photographer taking several rolls of 35mm with my ancient Nikon. This year I have added a pretty fair digital cam to add to the mix..
Macon has nothing like the Gaudet Camp anywhere. The old (and newly refurbished) Luther Williams Ballpark is awash with hudreds of youngsters from six years to young teens, civic leaders, politicians, firefighters, police and sherriff's deputies, parents and those of us who serve in a volunteer capacity.
Following inspirational opening ceremonies led by Dr. Gaudet, the campers are divided into groups according to age where they learn the fundamentals of batting, fielding, pitching, catching, and rules. There is also a segment for girls interested in learning more about the fast-growing game of softball. It's great, heady stuff....the young coaches, mostly college and high school players, are enthusiastic teachers and inspire their young charges with a genuine love for the National Passtime.
You can pick up applications at numerous locations including each Kroger. Parents are encouraged to come with their children and sit in the shaded stands of the old ballpark. It is a time for so many good things in this little community to come together.

Some of you know that I entered into the mailing lists of two diametrically opposed web groups CAIR (Congress for American Islamic Relations) and ANTI-CAIR, whose intent is obvious. My inate predilections, sense of fair play, and keen insight into the obvious cause me to side with the Anti-Cair folks most of the time. CAIR is simply too much of a propaganda instrument funded by Saudi oil monies which puts on a face of wounded victimization every time some Muslim blows up a copuple dozen schoolchildren.
This mornings article is one of the best and well documented pieces ever to come out of ANTI-CAIR. It begins with a comment on the first quote noted above made by one of the Dix Six (Eljvir Duka) and heard in an FBI recording.
Is Muslim violence a justification for perceived antagonism to the worship of Allah? (Not in this country, Buster!!!)
Folling the arrest of the conspirators, CAIR issued a statement urging: ""Media outlets and public officials refrain from linking (the Fort Dix) case to the faith of Islam."
Is this an attempt at bllatant whitewash? Definitely, but many in the wide world of politically correct 'News Entertainment' seemed to downplay the entire affair. Our frends in print and airways did not seem (to me anyway) as outraged as they might have been. (fearing Muslim backlash?)

WHOM TO TRUST?
Nobdy, really, maybe a few select individuals, less than ten, mostly people I have known for many years.
But this old duffer puts no credence whatsoever in things like government (federal, state, or local), an entire educational system from Pre-K all the way to Multiple doctorates, our churches (them above all, perhaps), labor unions, big business, the military, anybody’s media, you name it…if it’s big, entrenched, bureaucratic, hidebound, self-serving).

One of my kids did once, but he outgrew that level of dgrading humor before he turned twenty-two.
Now I do know that the dynamic duo was bounced off the regular radio airways for a promotion that had a couple of poor slobs doing the dirty deed inside of Saint Pat's Cathedral. Made a few headlines.about four years back.
But they're back, this time spewing their declasse inanity over on XM Satellite Radio, where you are expected to pay for the service of being exposed to sick teen garbage.

Way back at the beginning of the year Macon's Mayor, the individual formerly known as C. Jack Ellis, announced in a News Conferenc e that he was converting to the Muslim religion and was taking the name of Hakim Mansour Ellis, in keeping with his new-found faith.
Many of us, including the morning persona of Kenny Bergamy, did as we thought we were supposed to, began using 'Hakim' (sometimes) when we referred to Hizzoner.

It's no secret that I love the game of baseball.
No...sorry, not the Major League kind. Too much money there, too many thugs and spoiled brats, too much doping, too expensive to take the kids for a night of affordable, unspoiled fun.
It's the small town stuff I like. The aging parks, smell of real grass, the excitement of sitting just behind some eager kids trying to work their way up to 'the show', or aging oldsters whose ever eternal hope keeps them swinging for the fences even though their best years are behind them.

Macon's 'Downtown Hotel' continues to inch forward...step by painful step.
How soon will it be that some young MACON TELEGRAPH headline editor starts calling it 'Heartbreak Hotel'?
Noble Investment group is getting its ducks in a row and plans to kick in more than twenty-two million bucks into the project. The city is responsible for more than nine million, about one-third due up front.
Sounds fair enough on the surface? But where will Macon come up with an extra three mill? Let alone the nine it will owe in toto no matter what happens?
Fully ten years ago for several nights at the venererable bar at the old CELLAR on lower Cherry street our guests and staff poured over what were then the proposed for the hotel that would rescue Macon's inner city.
Rescue it from further decay and terminal life support. Rescue it from decades of poor planning. Make that 'non-planning', because the city's fathers (and mothers) haven't had a clue about what to do to stem the encroaching rot, or the guts to take any meaningful steps.
The original plans called for the hotel to be built across MLK from The Centreplex. The two facilities would be joined by a walking cross over. Between the hotel parking lot and that of the Centreplex there would be more than enough parking space.
A first class hotel and some sprucing up of the downtown would, it was then reasoned, bring conventions to our fair city, letting its central location and a little positive imaging bring more convention business here than we could handle.
A decade has gone by since then. We don't yet have Hotel Savior. Maybe we are getting closer. Maybe some version of the vision will come to pass.
I have my doubts, personally. I think a hotel without adequate parking on Centreplex property is a recipe for potential disaster. I see problems with the financing...where are we going to come up with three million right this minute? Will projected income from the hotel and the Centreplex, soon to be put under Noble Group control (it's losing about 400 thousand a year right now) be enough to pay back the city. Or will the taxpayer be stuck with the unintended consequences of inadequate planning?
I would like to know, chapter and verse, about other cities that have given in to Noble Group's siren song. Whom have we talked to? With what municipalities have our people gone to to see Noble in action? What is the extent of our research?
Or are we simply looking at the project with child-like 'visions of sugarplums dancing' in our heads?
Have we done the research or are we relying on the word of lawyers and architects and politicians and snake oil salesmen?

In a 'debate' in Beantown The Slightly Reverend Al Sharpton said of GOP presidential candidate ('Half') Mitt Romney (A Mormon), "As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation."
It might not rise to the level of 'Nappy Headed Hoes', but it shows that Brother Sharpton can be just as guilty of on-air gaffe as is Doin Imus.
The comment seems to indicate that Al thinks Mormons to be somehow either not Christian or somewhat lesser Christian than is Big Al.
Not so, says the Reverend. In a more prepared statement aimed at covering his own backside Sharpton said, according to the AP, ""What I said was that we would defeat him, meaning as a Republican," A Mormon, by definition, believes in God. They don't believe in God the way I do, but by definition, they believe in God."
Sure, Al.
I propose that his second statement is no apology at all. It isn't enough. He should be made to come on O'Reilly or Limbaugh dressed in sackcloth and ashes, flagellating himself with a cat-o-nine, crying, weeping, wailing like a penitent Jimmy Swaggart, and kiss the feet of Mitt Romney.
And then.....
And then...cast unceremoniously from whatever his real job is so that he can join Imus on the unemployment line.

I don't think I have ever written about Paris Hilton, this generation's most spoiled brat.
And I don't intend to again. She seems to crave celebrity, has no visible talent, and acts as if the laws of the land do not apply to a person her wealth and stature.
She may be headed for jail, possibly for a forty-five day stretch. You and I would spend some slammer time under similar circumstances.
Many blame her parents for spoiling the little rich girl.
My opinion? The elder Hiltons made their first mistake when they named their child 'Paris'.

MOTHER'S DAY
MOTHER'S DAY
Mothers' Day this weekend. I wish all you good mothers out there a happy day, enriched by your children and family. A day of peace, reflection, and not a little fun.
I don't celebrate the day anymore. My mother died almost twenty-two years ago...of long and wasting cancer. I think of her quite often....and my dad as well who followed her not three years later. But these are not active thoughts as a rule, reminiscences of specific times and events, no, it's kind of like loosely-jointed flickers of memory, always there in the background. Reminds me of Bob Denver's GENTLE ON MY MIND. Feel the same way about both parents.
They were good folks. Like all parents, they made a few mistakes, but not many. Probably made some errors in their marriage as well, but a generation or two ago such things were not shared with offspring.
Mother was a good woman, a good wife, a good mother. She was probably a better parent than was I. That point is moot, nor does it matter.
I strongly urge that you do something for your Mother this weekend. Something unexpected. Breakfast in bed, a dozen roses, and a dinner out is OK...but try to make it a little more personal. Our expression of love should transcend money and the material. Give Mom something of yourself. Think the old girl will like it.
But do not limit your attention to just one day....you won't always have her around, you know.

KIDS and DRIVING
Haven’t had much time for talk radio last couple of weeks.
Talk radio, to me means Kenny and Jami in the early AM followed by Neal Boortz.
Sorry guys, other things demanding my immediate attention these days.
But a few minutes with Neal told me he was on a tear this morning, a tear about about teen drivers. He used the case of a seventeen-year-old in intensive care inside an Atlanta area hospital. Daniel Peek, a high school quarterback, was alone in his jeep and failed to negotiate a curve. He was thrown from the vehicle. Police indicated that he was not wearing a seat belt, and that alcohol and speed were both involved. Last year Peek was suspended for two games after attending an off-campus party prior to the beginning of the football season.
Those are the basic facts. Boortz’ rant centered on the crying need to deny drivers’ licenses to sixteen and seventeen-year-olds, and stiffen the requirements for anyone to obtain a license.
Do we blame the kid who had what might be termed 'a history', or the parents who might not have provided the right kind and degree of discipline? Is the Peek buy at fault or is he some kind of a victim?
My own $.02 follows.

Nicolas Sarkozy, immigrant, conservative, undisputed winner in yesterday's French national election.
Sarkozy is billed as a fiscal and social conservative, friend of the United States, the man who will move France off the path to socialist, economic, self-destruction.
Hope he will. Be nice to have 'French Fries' back on the menu. Maybe Les Francais will begin to like the United States again, unless, of course, we kick into reverse and elect a socialistic of our own to go along with the current version of the United States Congress.
Personally the only place where I have felt comfortable in La Belle France is in Normandy where we went ashore in 1944 to liberate the people from the yoke of Teutonic oppression.

I received two very disturbing emails this morning from Riverside Red. They concerned the murders of two young college students, Channon Gail Christian (21) and Hugh Christopher Newson, Jr. (23), both of Knoxville, who were raped, tortured, dismembered, and murdered on January 7th. Of this year.
Four young men and a teen age woman (Lemaricus Devall "Slim" Davidson, 25, Letalvis "Rome" Cobbins, 24, George Geovonni "Detroit" Thomas, 24, Eric DeWayne "E" Boyd, 24, Vanessa Coleman, 18) have been charged in the crime. The dead victims are White, the alleged killers Black.
The problem seems to be that there has been virtually no media coverage of this horrific crime. Why? A Black chippie falsely accuses three young White college LaCrosse players of rape, and all hell breaks loose. Does the media cover the most horrible of crimes with a slant that would make glad the hearts of race baiting Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton?

Later I spent some time with Google and found an excellent article on the exact subject by Mark Alexander, editor-in-chief and publisher of THE PATRIOT POST. It originally appeared in TOWN HALL last Friday; I missed it somehow. Does a left-leaning media cover Black-on-White crimer differently than it does White-on-Black? Is this bias pervasive? One possible reason to think so is that there has been almost no coverage of the Christopher/Newsom murders anywhere in the national press, news services, or even those dreadful 24/7 news channels.
A few years ago Luke wrote an article comparing the hate-crime murder of young Matthew Shepherd, a gay college student beaten and left to die by some illiterate white trash with that of a thirteen-year-old gay teen named Jesse Dirkhising raped and murdered by two grown (gay) men. The Shepherd story was front page news for weeks; the Dirkhising murder was largely swept under the media rug scarcely making a ripple in the news. Straight=on-gay gets the coverage; gay-on-gay gets nothing.
It would be interesting….and possibly damning to the establishment….to do some further research into this divergent kind of obviously strongly biased coverage. It would seem to imply that the major sources who jealously guard our knowledge of the world have an agendum or two which might not be in the best interest of the American public.

In a brief, pointed discussion, Mr. Morris awards the palm of victory to John McCain (as did most pundits) owing to a relatively dynamic and forthright performance Thursday night. He also claims that MSNBC and the 'Lib Press' stacked the odds and questions agains Rudy Giuliani who could have been seen at his best owning to media sculduggery.

Ms. Baxter cites several former Bush supporters who have or seem to have strayed from the flock. And I have no doubt that such folks do exist. Obama is, after all, young, charismatic, and seems to remind the faithful that he is another Jack Kennedy, who was, as cold warrior, a favorite among modern neo-conservatives.
However, as interesting as is the suggestion, we should not look on such defections as any kind of a trend, but, for the time being, anyway, take them with a very small grain of salt.
But, boys, it is a long ways to election day and much will transpire twixt now and then.

These are the candidates: on your left you have conservative Nicolas Sarkozy, the probable winner; on your right you see Mme Segolene Royale, a typical Old Europe Socialist whose goal is to raise taxes, extend socialism, and protect La Belle France's greatest national treasure, the thirty-five hour work week.
They met this week in a debate noted for the ferocity of the rhetoric.
At the opening gun Ms. Royale's "Va le faire foutre!!!" was countered by a robust, "Baisez mon cul!!"
Things went downhill from there.

Elizabeth The Second, reigning monarch of the British Isles and whatever is left of the Empire is in Virginia today, receiving, no doubt, a royal welcome. Americans are almost as silly about the Brit Royal family as are the Brits.
The Monarchy goes way back and exists as one of the great political anachronisms in all politics. Only one British King, a ninth century Saxon named Alfred, was designated 'The Great'. All other reigning monarchs are considered 'lesser', apparently.
I went to see the Queen when last I visited London. She wasn't home. 'Up in Scotland most likely this time of the year,' said one of those beefeater guards in the tall beaver hats. So I took the train to Scotland but couldn't find the good woman anywhere. Just as well, got a good peek at the Loch Ness Monster which is far more interesting.
Most Kings and Queens have dysfunctional families. Elizabeth's is screwed up to the extreme. In the olde days they would have chopped off the heads of some of these clowns. No more. They get to be famous and photographed like the vacuous headed hollywood elite whom they emulate.
Diana was the Queen's Daughter-in-law, not her daughter or granddaughter. There is some question whether the Brfit Secret service had a hand in doing her in. Conspiracy theories thrive on both sides of the pond.
The highlight of of the royal visit will be a day at the Kentucky Derby (pronounced 'darby' over there. A lifelong horsewoman herself, it is unknown at this writing whether she will give odds and take bets on the race.
She doesn't need the money for she is already the richest woman in the world which really frosts Oprah's butt.
There is some question as to whether the Queen will issue a proclamation condemning Britain's role in exploiting the institution of slavery in America or demand payment (with interest) for the tea spilled in Boston Harbor back in '73.
We shall return to the British Monarchy before the end of the week.

Read this on Drudge early this A.M., then heard it on Boortz. But it seems that a D.C. lawyer, on the eve of becoming a judge, is suing a small dry cleaning establishment run by a Korean couple for sixty-seven million bucks over the loss of a favorite pair of pants.
Roy Pearson, Plaintiff, maintains the suit justified. One of the things he is suing for is ten years worth of weekend car rentals so he can take his dry cleaning business elsewhere.

That Pearson is Black and the defendants Korean might hint of an old kind of animosity in Black Communities that resent Korean entrepreneurship within their ranks. This has not been uncoimmon in New York and other cities.
To be fair (if not balanced) there is no indication of this in the article.

I have heard the rumors, and you have too, probably.
And I get several phone calls plus numerous emails a day on the subject.
But I deny it categorically. No way have I ever used Deborah Jeane Palfrey and her D.C. 'Escort Service'.
They can damn well go ahead and print those names any time they want...no skin off this nose.
Sure she will ruin some low level politicians, break up a few marriages, probably cause a suicide or ten, and maybe some over-stressed little wifey will get up the courage to slice her philandering hubhy's Johnson off....but the scandal can't touch yours truly.
That's not to say I haven't ever used an 'escort service' in my time. Remember a nice lady named Heidi Fleiss out on the West Coast who provided service, service and elegance. Course the statute of limitations is long gone on that one (I think).
Feeling better. Gonna take my new digi cam to an pro immigration rally and see if we can pick up some illegals and flash their faces across the net. Maybe get a few sent back to wherever.

It finally happened.
With the connivance of a federal grant and a little tinkering by local union of amalgamated gnomes Downtown Macon all the way to Central City Park is now wired for computers. Cordless computers. That technology I casnnot comprehend that lets the user unzip his lap top on a park bench and be on the 'Net in a microsecond.
Great stuff...except the signal is weak and only certain portions of the inner city are covered.
WI-FI is for the cops as their cars will now be equipped the technology and they can exchange pertinent information...as long as they remain downtown and not, say, on the other side of the river where we live, or in the hotspots of north and south quadrants of the city.
But its a start. Seems that the first folks to benefit will be the cadre of homeless, those urban camp crafters, the legion of panhandlers and unemployed who can now better communicate with one another about such things as location of an undercover officer or a generous sucker.
And, BTW, Ron Wildman dod not again notify me about the news conference that announced Wi-Fi. Guess your boss doesn't like being asked the hard questions, eh?

DOWN FOR THE SHORT COUNT
Never happens to me. Hardly ever.
Getting sick....taking to bed, temperature, sore throat, flu-like symptoms, aching bones already wracked by the onset of arthritis. Nasty stuff.
But I Ill and admit it and will be taking my body to bed for just as long as it takes to return to ship and shape.
