NEWTON COLLIER
ENDORSES
ARLAN GIBSON
FOR MAYOR

A dramatic shift is taking place in the Republican wing of the local political scene.

A few hours ago, “Downtown” Newton Collier, Macon’s best known and most visible urban personality, enthusiastically endorsed Arlan Gibson’s candidacy for Mayor of our fair city.

Said Newton, “He (Gibson) brings new blood, new perspective, and the new energy so desperately needed to a city long mired in politics as usual and facing a the prospect of a grim future. It’s high time Macon city proper began gaining its share of the prosperity seen everywhere else throughout the Middle Georgia region. “

The occasion was an informal meeting at Gibson headquarters on Cherry Street early this evening. Present were Mr. Collier, several members of the Gibson campaign staff, and your humble correspondent.

It was following a lengthy give and take, question and answer, get down to the nitty-gritty session that Mr. Collier made his dramatic announcement. Collier, you see was poised to make a run at the GOP nomination himself. He had met with Gibson previously.

I came away from this colloquium with a real sense that the young men of Gibson’s team share their leader’s vision of a city reborn in the strength of it’s citizens working in concert, rather than the old alliances and little political allediances that marked our political history.

This is going to be an interesting campaign. Didn't think I would get fired up this year, but I am.

AND WHO WOULD REPEAL THE SECOND AMENDMENT?

Such honesty has proved contagious. As Brookings Institution scholar Benjamin Wittes chronicles in the current edition of The New Republic, various liberal legal scholars have come to grudgingly accept that the Second Amendment's meaning and intent include the individual right to own a gun. "(T)he amendment achieves its central purpose by assuring that the federal government may not disarm individual citizens without some unusually strong justification," writes no less than the dean of liberal legal scholars, Laurence Tribe. Tribe had to update his textbook on the Constitution to account for the growing consensus that - horror! - Americans do have a constitutional right to own a gun. It's not an absolute right, of course. But no right is.

I am a sucker for a well written article, pro or con, on the subject of gun control.

Here is an excellent piece by Jonah Goldberg, ed-at-large of the NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINEentitled: UNDER THE GUN: LIBERALS GIVE GROUND ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT, Goldberg argues that there has come about in liberal circles some willingness to recognize the Second Amendment as a fact of life.

That's the good news. The bad news is that some left leaners are turning their attention to a repeal of the amendment which, if successful, could alter forever the notion of guaranteed freedoms.

You can read the whole thing for yourself at TOWN HALL look up Mr. Goldberg's columns and read this one for yourself.

Please.

WHO WOULD OF THUNK IT???

In an announcement that seems to have caught every news service, every commentator, every pundit with its britches down, Jesse Jackson endorsed Obama for president yesterday.

Wonders they shall never cease, eh?

IS HILLARY'S CAMPAIGN TANKING?

Americans this year are saying, “We know Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton is a friend of ours. And Hillary, you’re no Bill Clinton.”....... by putting Bill out there next to Hillary, we are treated to a daily reminder of the huge difference between them......He’s funny. She’s not. He’s charismatic. Her circumstances are charismatic, but she, clearly, is not. Bill is intuitive. Hillary’s lips move as she dances — each step is right but there is no innate sense of rhythm or beat.

The writer is Bick Morris. You can read the entire piece, which was first aired on FNC at http://www.vote.com/mmp_printerfriendly.php?id=59

I have come to a kind of conclusion about the party of the Mythic Jackass........If you look at Hillary....stiff, formal, unfunny, uninspiring, you think 'Robot'....just like the dull Algore and the wooden aristocrat John Kerry, you might ask why do the Dems insist on parading people of this ilk in the age of TV and internet where every foible, every flaw, every idiosyncracy is magnified and repeated endlessly around the world?

REMINDER
ARLAN GIBSON CAMPAIGN RALLY
TOMORROW
SATURDAY
MARCH 31st.

I walked by Mr. Gibson's new quarters on Cherry Street earlier today. The corner is all spruced up and rally looks like a campaign headquarters.

Ran this announcement earlier in the week. Please read the brief message below from Nathan Edmonson. Newt Collier and I will be on hand about 5:00 rain or shine.

The importance of this event cannot be under-recognized. Here we have, for the first time, a Black, Conservative, Republican running for mayor of this city. This man is somebody dedicated, through political philosophy and experience in business, to fiscal responsibility, a quality sadly lacking not only on the mayor's wing of city hall, but over on the other side where the City Council, that gang of fifteen resideth.

See you tomorrow. The event will give me a chance to try out my new digital camera.

This Saturday we will have the Gibson Campaign Headquarters open for
you to drop by! Anyone and everyone who feels called or able to
donate your time and energy, please come by between 5-10.

The HQ is located downtown on Cherry Street--you won't miss the
Gibson for Mayor Banners.

Come by, enjoy some food and drinks, chat with us, and bring friends!

We need your help to see Arlan's vision realized. Let's give Macon a
rebirth!

Thank you all, and we hope to see you soon!

WHY GUN OWNERS CANNOT TRUST THE NEW CONGRESS
H. R. 1022

I am going to tell you that it's long and quite technical.

Unless you have an interest in firearms and/or our freedom don't bother to read it.

But here is the full text of a bill, introduced into the current congress which clearly points out the path of the leftish agendum which would deprive us of many if not most of our firearms.

Go through the list....look at the 'banned' rifles....they include ther venerable M1 Carbine that dates back to WW2 and the Ruger Mini-14, a well-built, American made standard of ranch and range since the mid 1970's. The list also includes other examples of reliable rifles and handguns that enthusiasts have been enjoying safely for many years.

The Second Amendment, many of us believe, is the one guarantee of freedom that ensures the survival of the other freedoms we have enjoyed since the founding of the Republic.

HR 1022 won't survive in Congress this year. But it or its brethern will surface again and again unless we remain strong, wary, and not distracted by what has been an apparent truce by Democrats since Algore took the issue off the table during campaign 2000.

Lawful and licensed gun owners simply do not rob banks, convenience stores, or little old ladies in sneakers.

Read....then write your Congressman

DICK MORRIS, AGAIN

Dick Morris' latest weekly report on the upcoming presidential election : HERE s

It's the best thing of its kind found anywhere in the wide world of blogdom...or the 24/7 news merry-go-rounds where Mr. Morris is a frequent guest. His views on the potential candidacy of ex-senator Fred Thompson are particularly illuminating.

Personally, and this helps keep my thinking centered I have come to rely on both Dick Morris and Larry Sabato, who sends out his weekly 'Crystal Ball'. Between the raw polling data, and some intelligent interpretation, these guys, as the kids would say, "Rock".

FOR GEORGIA VOTERS
FROM THE NRA

Please read the following...it is a letter from the NRA (National Rifle Association) with an update on a proposed Georgia Law that would allow gun owners to keep firearms in their vehicles wile at work.

STATEMENT FROM NRA CHIEF LOBBYIST
CHRIS W. COX ON SB43

“Georgia State Senate leaders opted not to give SB 43 a fair vote last night. The National Rifle Association is disappointed in their decision. The NRA believes we had sufficient bi-partisan support to pass this common sense, pro-employee and pro-self defense bill.

“The facts surrounding this legislation were polluted by half-truths and bold-faced lies by opponents during the 11th hour. The NRA was forced to engage in an assertive, fact based campaign to counter these falsehoods. While we are concerned that some referred to our effort to defend the merits of SB43 as heavy handed, we are unrepentant as our objective was to counter a blatant campaign of misinformation.

“Nevertheless, the NRA remains hopeful that the Georgia State Senate will still address the essence of SB 43 this legislative session. This is a thoughtful and practical measure intended to preserve the integrity of Right-to-Carry laws in Georgia and to allow hard working men and women to have an effective means of self defense during their daily commute to and from work.

“Businesses quantify their progress by fiscal quarters. Politicians gauge success by election cycles. The NRA has no timeline in our defense of freedom. We will remain committed to this effort.”

THAT GOOD OLD GEORGE BUSH SENSE OF HUMOR

President Bush at a Radio and TV Correspondents Association dinner last night:

"A year ago my approval rating was in the 30s, my nominee for the Supreme Court had just withdrawn, and my vice president had shot someone,"

and

"I have to admit we really blew the way we let those attorneys go. You know you've lost it when people sympathize with lawyers."

JAMES DOBSON
CLAIMS
FRED THOMPSON
not
A CHRISTIAN

"Everyone knows he’s conservative and has come out strongly for the things that the pro-family movement stands for,” Dobson – considered the most politically powerful evangelical figure in the U.S. – said in a phone call to Dan Gilgoff, senior editor at U.S. News & World Report.

"[But] I don’t think he’s a Christian. At least that’s my impression.”

This story comes from http://newsmax.com which means you can check on it yourself easily and quickly.

Uber Christian and all-around Holier-Than-Crap examplar of American evangelical leadership, James Dobson, did claim over the phone that Thompson, a possible candidate for the GOP golden crown in 2008 just ain't a real, honest to Christ, sho-'nuff good old Christian Boy. A spokesman for Dobson explained later that what he meant by 'not a Christian' was that our LAW and ORDER DA is not an 'Evangelical' Christian.

And here lies the dilemma

RETURN OF THE GOP
to
THE MACON CITY POLITICAL SCENE

As did many, I received the following letter from the Arlan Gibson campaign....campaign for Mayor that is. Mr. Gibson is a Republican.

This is a welcome change from the last mayoral bout in 2003 when the GOP fielded no candidate whatsoever. David Corr, that year, ran as a write-in 'Libertarian' and garnered about twenty-seven percent of the total votes cast. Think of what might have been done given a well run, adequately financed. co-ordinated, major party campaign.

I intend to attend this Rally, meet Mr. Gibson and Mr. Edmonson, ask a few questions, and take the pulse of the GOP. Hope to see many of you there....maybe help me take that pulse.

Had a phone call a few minutes ago from a close friend and political savant who plans to attend as well.

AS ALWAYS
JOHN STOSSEL MAKES SENSE
"THE KIDNAPPING HISTERIA"

John Stossel is my favorite news guy.

His low-key, common sense approach whether in print or on television presents a sane balance to the usual much dredged up by the ratings almighty-driven media.

He is so good at what he does that ABC allows him full a range to vent even when his libertarian points of view clash with the rest of that network's left-pointing biasi.

His latest piece is based upon a segment from 20-20 some time ago. It puts the lie to and behind the media histeria over kidnapped and exploited children. This is a must read if you are a parent, grandparent, or teacher. Things are nowhere as band as many would have you believe. Further, the 'histeria' is impacting many youngsters negatively.

Please click on TOWN HALL look for Stossel then check out the column.

It is the sort of common sense anchor our often out-of-control media needs in these days of 24/7 insanity.

It is frightening, yet compelling and is called THE ROAD TO SERFDOM

Please click on the link and read it carefully. The survival of the west, of the United States depends on increasing our knowledge of the goals of radical Islam.

TAKE THIS
SECOND AMENDMENT POLL

Please, if you value our Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms, take a minute to read this letter from the JPFD (JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FIREARMS OWNERSHIP) and then take the poll linked to it.

I like this organization very much and have added my name to its mailing list. These guys are direct, hard hitting, and thought provoking. It's not that I agree with everything they say, but it is more than a little comforting to have such folks solidly in the corner of American Gun Rights.

Check out the second link and learn more about the history of the original wording and intent of the Constitution's framers.

Please click MORE.....read the poll carefully, I isuspect it has tricked a few. The wording is not for chowder heads used to MTV and AOL.

That's
"CROSSOVER DAY"
not
"CROSS DRESSING DAY"

AT THE GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

We Georgians deserve the ineptitude we get from our elected officials.

I guess it goes back to the bad old days after the Civil War when the federal government in Washington treated the defeated South as an occupied, enemy territory. The bluebellied troops went home after a few years, but a kind of benign neglect kept us in thrall, barefoot and undereducated until Roosevelt (that's FDR) decided to allow government largess to flow our way beginning in the thirties.

During those dark times we tended to cast ballots for every crackpot, crook, and flimflammer that ever rolled down our unpaved roads. We enjoyed unprecedented bad government for decades and the tradition lives on today.

"We've always done it that way before."

MIKE ADAMS
TILTING WITH WINDMILLS,
UNICORNS,
AND COLLEGE ADMINISTRATORS WHO CAN'T OR DON'T READ

"But the discussion didn't get too far before the university official stopped to ask me a crucial question: 'Mike, how could you claim to be a born again Christian and say the things you say in your column?'"

Mike Adams seems to be on the point of open warfare with the liberal administration of his own university, UNC at WILMINGTON, which has allied itself with the equally limp-wristed leadership of Kent State U. in far away Ohio.

Why, because Professor (but not 'full professor') Adams has been writing well-publicized columns blasting Julio Pino, a K. State faculty member, Cuban exile, and avowed Muslim Jihadist. Apparently the KS leadership has been in cahoots with the UNCW guiding lights to see what 'can be done' with the impertinent Adams....and the hell with something called 'truth'.

CYA...SPIN....cover-up....lies......chicanery.....dishonesty....not only the stuff of politics, but part and parcel of your modern institution of sometime education.

Adam's current piece is maybe the hardest-hitting column he has written in a long time. It's called UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS BUGGERED BY GAY UNICORN and can be found simply by going to TOWN HALL and looking up among the columnists Mike Adams.

As a quondam and forever iconoclast in the halls of academe, I really enjoyed this one.

MACON, GEORGIA
CAN MAYOR ELLIS READ?

At the opening of this evening's City Council meeting, Mayor H. Mansour Ellis read one of those politican's favorites, a proclamation....this one has the city honoring women.

Fair enough. No problem there.

But in his presentation Mr. Ellis seemed to read hesitantly, stumbling over certain words, mispronouncing others. It was painful.

This raises a question in my mind. If Hizzoner has a reading problem, who is interpreting for him legal contracts, legislation, reports, and the myriad other items a chief exec. must deal with on a daily basis?

Might we have discovered a clue to the inadequacy of the Ellis administration?

AND WAITING IN THE WINGS
FRED THOMPSON

Ex Senator Fred Dalton Thompson's name is being circulated as a GOP prospecti 2008.

As most know, Senator Thompson has had a long career as a lawyer (Watergate) and actor, currently holding down a steady gig on LAW and ORDER.

Politically he is a conservative hailing from a Southern Border State and has spent much of his life in the service of the people. He could be an overwhelming presence in the primaries, and has enough savvy, experience, and personalityl to deal a serious blow to the plans for the coronation of Hillary The Firs.t

If the Democrats want to head off a Thompson candidacy then need to do it now. Their weapon? The Hollywood crowd, of course. Give Thompson a much larger role on L&O, or, better, promise him the lead in a series of his own. Maybe a tricky Southern Lawyer in the Andy Griffith-Matlock mold. Or a Southern Governor faced with terrorist plots. You know, something with fifty-five minutes of kick followed by five minutes of pure, Dixie, wisdom. Keep him acting until 2009 and Hill is home free.

Maybe. I hope to see the man run. He looks better from here than anybody else limping along the Presidential Parkway.

SEX?
EDUCATION??

No, you don't have to send the kids out of the room.

A neighbor's boy came to me one day this weekend looking for help in Latin. He's in a biblically correct private school where the youngsters start learning 'the mother tongue' in the second gradel. It's kind of a holy alliance between classical paganism and modern fundamentalism. Quite a leap, eh?

SIX STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT
MAYBE

Widely circulated news reports indicate that an illegal alien, on the average, must run afoul of the law six times before he is prosecuted and possibly deported.

The first five times an alien is caught smuggling drugs he goes free?

The first five banks he robs nets him zero jail time?

Five robberies? How about five rapes, or five murders, or five sexually exploited children? Five overdue library books?

As this apparent outrage made its way through the blogs, news and talk shows last week, we received an interesting email from an anonymous sender. Read on.

Cherry Blossom Winding Down
Winding Down
Winding Down

The Macon Cherry Blossom is winding down today. You have your choice: some religious services, an arts and crafts fair along Mulberry Street, or the childrens' parade through our hysteric downtown.

Me? I wouldn't go anywhere there might be an overload of ankle biters, arts and crafts are simply not my thing (a little too cxutsey pootsie), and religious services? You can figure that one out all by your lonesome.

So its housework and furniture moving and gardneing as the temp heads toward ninety and the cats are moving with a summery lethargy.

All my fundamentalist neighbors look on Sunday as a day of rest, so they don't do anything except go to church a few times and nap. Heaven help the fundy child who gets too exhuberant in his Sunday afternoon play in this Land of the Unspared Rod.

Still looking for excitement in The Peach State? Head to Savannah....that city's annual music festival has another full week to run.

FIGARO
FIGARO
FIGARO

We’re near the end of act two of the most spirited performance of BARBER OF SEVILLE I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, Live from the Met.

The Metropolitan Opera, especially the Saturday broadcasts in season has been part of my life as far back as I can remember even as a very young tadpole. For years it was simply ‘out there’….scratchy, heard through tinny speakers in pre-war AM radios. Later, as a teen, I began to listen for some reason not sure why to this day. Been listening ever since, sometimes at a distance, mostly with all the passion a human can muster when something delights him to the very foundation of his spiritual nature.

DOGS
CATS
and
PET FOOD RECALL

Most of my friends, my close friends, anyway, love animals and have pets.

With most of us dogs and cats provide a kind of companionship we don’t get from other humans. It is not a matter of ‘instead’, it’s a matter of ‘in addition’. A loving animal adds to the quality of life no matter how close we may be to family and friends.

And we don’t obsess, most of us. Over our four legged friends. They are simply close companions whose fidelity is unwavering, whose love is unconditional.

THE BEGINNING OF THE WHAT,
MS PELOSI?

Why is Nancy Pelosi smiling?

Poor thing is being savaged by both conservatives and liberals.

Not Republicans, members of her own party unhappy with the bare majority she cobbled together to pass what has to be the most ludicrous, ill-considered, stupidly framed, and moronically contrived bit of war funding legislation that painfully made its way today through the House that Ms Pelosi would like to build.

Not only is the bill laced with unnecessary, porker spending, it requires a set date of September 2008 for all the troops to be brought home no matter what the status of the war might be. Many Democrats are now concerned that the November ’08 elections will be negatively influenced by hideous ethnic cleansing and babies burned and scorched across our TV screens..

Pelosi calls the vote (218-212) the beginning of the end of the Iraq war. But it’s more like the beginning of the end of her hegemony in the House. It will take more than this iron maiden to keep the far lefties in the umbrella that is her fiefdom from driving the Party of the Mythic Jackass into minority status once again.

And the GOP will have learned not a damned thing in the meantime.

DICK MORRIS ON THE
The Phoniest Scandal Of The Century (So Far)

But instead of loudly asserting its view that voter fraud is, indeed, worthy of prosecution and that U.S. attorneys who treat such cases lightly need to go find new jobs, the Bush administration acts, for all the world, like the kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. .

For most of the past six plus years many have wondered why the GOP nationally, both in the Bush Administration and in two houses of congress, has become the gutless 'party of roll over and play dead'.

My own opinion is that this lack of backbone began to be noticed when the GOP put on such a pathetic, mincing little, show during the Clinton Impeachment, possibly the most moronic move any congressional majority ever pulled in the two plus centuries of this Republic.

Why doesn't the President and his advisors take firmer stands, fight harder for what they preach, show a larger set of cojones.?

Dick Morris attempts to answer this question....or at least highlight it...in today's column which you can read in its pithy entirety at http://www.vote.com/mmp_printerfriendly.php?id=41

This is a column I personally recommend for its insight and analysis.

LATEST CENSUS REPORT
BIBB, WE HAVE A PROBLEM

.“That ain’t good,” quoth Doug Bachtel, demographer at UGa, Georgia’s Flagship institution of what passes for higher learning these days.

Just what ain’t good?

Why the latest census figures that shows Bibb County in a flat, no-growth population curve that would register a negative were it not for the birth rate. The official population increase is under 1% between the years 2000 and 2006.

How many of the neonatals in Bibb County are born unto unwed, teen-age, minority mothers who don’t have a clue about raising kids?

So much for the one percent.

MIKE ADAMS
A FATAL FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE SATIRE

"This is more evidence that students need to spend more time in high school learning about the constitution and less time putting condoms on bananas."

I love satire.

Good satire, And Professo (but not full professor) Mike Adams is at his Firsdt Amendment Best in which he explains how and why he is being 'banned in the Europe Union' and suggests, "This is more evidence that students need to spend more time in high school learning about the constitution and less time putting condoms on bananas."

The student senate at the University of Rhode Island, you see, is 'punishing' the University's Republican organization for placinbg a satyrical ad for a scholarship limited to heterosexual, white, males.

Both the EU and the URI apparently do not recognize satire when it thwacks them across the a....er uh cheeks.

A RETURN TO SMILEY'S
FLEA MARKET

The most fun any visitor to Middle Georgia can have for free can be found in a few hours spent in one of the largest outdoor yard sales' in the Southeast, a place called 'Smiley's' located a few short miles due south of Macon on highway 247.

I hit Smiley's on a cold Saturday morning last week, investing a mere thirteen bucks on a pair of the best sneakers that ever graced my 91/2 fat feet.

SPRING BE SPRUNG

One of my favorite kiddie poems runs:

Spring is here,
Bringing cheer.
Birds chirp,
Frogs burp.

It was among hundreds of child-created poetry assembled by somebody whose name I forget but under the title WRITE ME A POEM, BABY. Cute.

Enough of cute. I'm sick of cute (unless it's my own grandchiuldren and then only until 5:00 PM. Wouldn't it be great if parents could palm off of their own monsters every day by late afternoon. Around here families love 'sleepovers'. The problem is that parents are expected to reciprocate and some of these families boast six ankle biters. Talk about tearing your hair out.

As I have always said I don't hate kids unless they're my own. I love children. Bar-B-qued is best, outside and over a spit hand turned by a kiddo motivated by a simple, "You're next"; but a simple roasting at 350 degreees until the child reaches an iinternal temperature of 160 degrees will do. Don't want to leave bacteria unkilled. And children bring with them a plethora of festering disease-laden germs and sundry unpleasantries.

TOWARD A NEW THEOLOGY

This was sent in by an old friend...scholar, activist, intellect, and part-time student of theological obfuscation.

One age-old theological question is, "How did religion begin, Daddy?"

We now have an answer that doesn'tseem to rely on mythological interpretation manipulation.

GEORGE WILL ON
STRIKING DOWN RESTRICTIVE D.C. GUN LAW

George Will is one of our very best and sanest columnists. He discusses in a recent TOWN HALL column the ruling that struck down the repressive Washington D.C. law limiting gun ownership in the home to current and former police officers.

The case is likely to come to a head in the the Supreme Court.

Many gun owners were elated at the lower court's decision. Some expressed caution that the ruling merely opened the way to further strangulation of our gun rights as guaranteed by logical interpretation of THE SECOND AMENDMENT. Nobody knows how the current court will look upon the issue as it hasn't dealt with the subject in sixty-eight years.

Because I want you to read the Will column and follow his logical reasoning, I won't say much about it excvept that (1) I found it riveting and (2) he takesa position that Gun Control could be very damaging to the Democrat Party in an election year. Remember it has pretty much been a non-issue since Gore took it off the table during the campaign of 2000.

Please click the TOWN HALL Find George Will's columns and see for yourself.

A VERY SPECIAL ANALYSIS FROM DICK MORRIS
which he calls
THE DEMOCRATS:
HILLARY BLUNDERS;
OBAMA SURGES (AGAIN)

Many, if not most, observers believe that the Nomination and the presidency is Hillary Clinton's for the taking.

Yet her arch rival, Obama, continues to surge in the polls beefing up solid support while Hillary's campaign seems to flail about not unlike a punch drung pugilist.

Please click the linkjust below to Dick Morris' latest analysis of the campaign. He even gives some time to the GOP candidates where Mayor Giuliani is taking hits and Fred Thompson is waiting in the wings.

I found it riveting, hope you will as well.

JUST ANOTHER DAMN
SITE UPDATE

Have received several emails about the site being unavailable this week at night, particularly.

There is a possibility that with the considerably increased activity, Old Luke's B'lOG is using up its allotted bandwith, whatever that means. We may be forced to move to a higher level of internet hosting which will be a little more expensive but well worth it if readership keeps increasing.

Some wise soul suggested that maybe Mayor Ellis or the City Council is attacking with a denial of service gambit. I don't think so. Nobody in City Hall that I have met so far, anyway, is smart enough to think up something like that.

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH

Julius Caesar had it easy way back in the day.

His enemies in the Roman Senate did him in with daggers on the Ides Of March in B.C. 44. It was over quick and precipitated a last phase of a Civil War that had been going on for almost a hundred years.

Our President, who doesn’t enter the Senate Chamber ever, apparently, and the House Side of the Capitol Building only when he delivers his State of the Union address, is forced to endure a thousand cuts a week, none fatal by itself, but in the aggregate, crippling, demoralizing, and possibly fatal to the office of President.

300

“300” is a blockbuster movie that set all manner of records for tickets sold during its opening weekend.

Set in early fifth century ancient Greece it depicts one small battle that took place during the Persian invasion of Greece in 480 B.C. A Persian Army led by king Xerxes attacks and eventually overwhelms a Greek rear guard consisting of three hundred Spartans whose king and leader is a battle hardened chap named Leonidas.

The movie is noted for its gore, battle sequences, and the fact that the modern Iranian department of culture claims it besmirches the reputation of the Persians, who are believed to be the direct, lineal ancestors of the modern Iranian people..

WELL WORTH REPEATING

Hillary R. Clinton, she of the shrink wrap girdle, breathed new life into and resuscitated an old, old friend.

No, not her marriage. That affair of convenience has laid dorment but successful since before Chelsea was born.

What she is recycling is an expression made famous during the difficult early days of the Monica Lewinsky affair. She blamed 'a vast, right wing conspiracy' for all the problems caused by hubby's dicky dunkin' inflagrante delictu.

If it resonated fourteen years ago, won't it work today? Poor Ms. Clinton needs to fire a copuple more of the former Clintonistas....these guys are mired in the past.

'Vast'. I wouldn't say that. It's more like 'Half Vast', and I can't tell from here whether that is more applicable to the imagined conspiracy or the Senator's own special brand of paranoia.

As most of you know, I live in Deep Dixie, Macon, Georgia, to be exact, the exact epicenter of the buckle of the Bible Belt.

Southerners are pretty careful about the language they use...don't want to offend some fair flower of southern femininity. In recent years things have changed and coarser habits and increasingly vulgar language have penetrated even to this part of the world where a woman’s honor and virtue was well worth fighting a duel to the death over

DEMOCRATS "RE-DEPLOY"
EXIT FOX SPONSORED DEBATE

Here's a fun column....enjoyed reading it. There is a ring of truth to it. It is also snide as hell. You will either hate or love the thing. I found it early today on DRUDGE.

It's called

EDITORIAL: Meltdown over Fox

Network co-sponsors state Democratic debate -- oh my!

And you can find it at REVIEW JOURNAL DOT COM

Here is a sample: " "But the socialist, Web-addicted wing of the Democratic Party was apoplectic. The prospect of having to watch Fox News to see their own candidates would have been torture in itself. So they set the blogosphere aflame with efforts to kill the broadcast arrangement, or at least have all the candidates pull out of the event. Before Friday, the opportunistic John Edwards was the only candidate to jump on that bandwagon."

Enjoy or not....it's Sunday and some of you good folks are on a new time.

THIS IN FROM RIVERSIDE RED
A BEAR BRYANT STORY

We southerners love our football coaches. To have a kid play under a 'Bear' Bryant was many a parent's dream. Not merely because it might lead to a stint in the pros, but these wise, good folks knew this coach was a man of the greatest character who would do more for their kid than teach him the fine points of the gridiron.

Heck...it's a beautiful Saturday Afternoon, I'm deep into an opera after a morning in the garden, just put a batch of baked stuffed shells into the oven, and then came across this story. My day is perfect in every way. No need for politics or the latest dirt from city hall..

AN OBAMA BOUNCE

This latest column from Dick Morris has a real kick to it....a feelingt, maybe mine, that our ex Clintonista is a pundit well above the common crowd.

See for yourself. Obama's 'Selma Bounce' may not have the legs his handlers would like, but it is sure putting a crimp in Ms. Clinton's plans.

This young man has confounded the experts, the politicians, and most of the members of his own party. He is fast becoming viable even though he is yet to articulate a significant notion of his own.

It's all in the perception. Read on!!!

LANCE RANDALL DECLARES

On the KENNY B. and JAMI G. show this morning, young Lance Randall announced his intention to run for the office of Mayor of Macon.

This will be followed up by a formal announcement in city hall to be held at 1:00 this afternoon. He seems to be running on a kind of 'lets all work together' platform....nothing specific yet.

If I can make that gig, I will ask the gentleman three questions. They are:

(1) Do you plan to reduce the number of people serving on the mayor's immediate staff which has doubled in size since the first coming of H. Mansour Ellis?

(2) Will you work to reduce the size of the Gang of Fifteen, the Macon City Council?

(3) Will you please tell us about 'the video tape'?

BLACK CRIME
WHITE TERROR

Hundreds, perhaps thousands of us got an email yesterday describing one woman’s terror-filled experience on the mean streets behind the Pio Nono Kroger as she tried to take a well-known shortcut out of the store’s parking lot after dark.

She was robbed at gunpoint last Friday by masked men wielding handguns. A similar incident took place Monday night. This time the woman victim sped off and was followed by a barrage of shots, at least one of which hit her car.

That used to be a ‘nice’ neighborhood. ‘Nice’ is a euphemism, of course, for ‘white’. Twenty-five years ago I almost bought a house over there on English Street…a neat, well-tended, middle class haven.

SENTENCING A LITTLE BASTARD

I am going to court tomorrow afternoon to see the sentencing of the lowlife who shot a friend of mine.

You may remember a robbery at a Macon liquor store a few months back. The perp, who has now confessed under a plea bargain agreement, will receive formal sentencing and may be allowed to make a statement. The owner, my friend, had a shotgun fired into his chest. He is alive because he thought to bring his arm up which kept the pellets from penetrating vital organs.

But the arm is shattered. The chap has undergone several rounds of reconstructive surgery and will have to undergo more. In the meantime he can't work.

TRIPLE CROSS
PETER LANCE

There was a most fascinating presentation on C-SPAN 2 this morning...a two hour l monologue by Petert Lance, former journalist, novelist, and best selling author.

His subject was based on his latest tome....the massive and apparently well-researched TRIPLE CROSS.

The whole title of this work pretty much tells its story: Triple Cross: How bin Laden's Master Spy Penetrated the CIA, the Green Berets, and the FBI--and Why Patrick Fitzgerald Failed to Stop Him

The presentation kept me riveted over its entire two hours. Quite a trick seeing that I don't have much patience to sit in front of a TV or movie screen. Tomorrow I shall buy the book and begin wading through it.

If what Mr. Lance said is generally true, than we have a serious credibility with the FBI and the bi-partisan report by the 9/11 commission.

More on this as my own research continues.

But the game in Washington continues to be extensive use of goo, old-fashioned CYA.

SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI

Not that Gloria Monday, she was a stripper in the old Tic Toc club on Salina Street in Syracuse, N.Y. when me and the little brother would get served years before we were of legal age. Some of those places would give a kid a beer or a 'seven and seven' (a favorite back then among teens) if he were old enough to look over the top of the bar. Don't remember ever being asked for proof of age.

I'm talking about the old expage.com domain where we kept more than six hundreds stories and assorted nonsense, some of which you can see at http://members.aol.com/luciusson/contents.html but not for long as that site is also about to be dismantled.

They told us it would happen, which was duly reported here. Now the entire series seems deader than Anna Nicole's left tit. We saved the episodes, of course, for no telling where or when some of them will pop up one day.

Say 'Amen', Gloria.

ANN COULTER FLAP REDUX

THE N.Y. TIMES, once America's newspaper 'of record', whatever the hell that means, said about the Coulter statement mentioned here among yesterda's postings, "The remarks by Ann Coulter, an author who regularly speaks at conservative events, were sharply denounced by the candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Their statements came after Democrats, gay rights groups and bloggers raised a storm of protest over the remarks."

Please note the word 'sharply'.

WHILE WE'RE BEING POLITICALLY INCORRECT
ANNA NICOLE SMITH
BURIED AT LAST

She was getting pretty ripe a week or so before they were able to put her underground. Finally, In Bermuda. A rotting, decaying corpse entrusted to the coral soil of that British outpost near (but not too near) the Americas. Stench and all.

Apparently somebody had the bright idea of freezing her until then. For ripe is ripe and, to paraphrase the New Testament somewhere, "Anna Nicole Stinketh". Not a good ending for a beautiful bod that had overcaptured the flaccid imagination of the American public.

Obsess, folks....can't get enough from death through hearing with Judge Cockroach auditioning for a TV gig. Obsess, one and most.

Not to worry....the Anna Nicle Smith death rattle has just begun....probably follow her infant daughter well into middle age. The ghouls will have decades of digesting every detail of this unfortunate woman's brief, tortured time on earth.

Loverly. Just loverly.

A LITTLE GENEOLOGY

Turns out that Obama had a couple of relatives who owned slaves according to a census taken in 1850 Kentucky.

About the same time poor Al Sharpton learned that he had ancestors who were owned by forebears of the late Strom Thurmond.

Al is upset, Obama doesn't appear to be. There is some question whether the 'discovery' was one of the many dirty tricks soon to be revealed by members of the opposition.

Dirty tricks are an integral part of the modern political climate

MORE POLITICAL INCORRECTNESS
THIS ONE FROM
ANN COULTER

By this time you have probably heard that Conservative Columnist, Ann Coulter, called John Edwards a nast word when she addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this week. This has angered Howie Dean who stamped his little foot and demanded that each GOP contender distance himself from Ms. Coulter's remarks.

Fat Chance.

What the good lady actually actually said was: "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I - so I can't really talk about Edwards."

Not one, not a single political pundit, commentator, or guru caught the real message behind Senator McCain's low-key announcement on David Letterman's show that he was, indeed, a candidate for the GOP Presidential nomination.

David Letterman, you see, is a commedian; McCain's candidacy is a joke.

DICK MORRIS REPORTS
THE IRAQ SURGE AIN'T THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN

Dick Morris' latest column has an interesting slant on the growing Obama phenomenon. As this young man's rock-star status grows, especially among potential Black voters, so Hillary's lead in the polls dwindles. All this leaves wealthy trial lawyer John Edwards barely hitting double figures.

It's still early in the game...millions and lillions to raise before we sleep.

They will likely get off with a slap on the wrist due to their age and innocent looks.....BUT we say sentence them to the max.

TORNADO

Night of the twisters around here.

Tornadic activity all through middle Georgia, though no serious damage closer than maybe ten miles from this spot.

Pretty scary stuff...turn on the TV...local channels better than the newsies or all weather. They can now pinpoint small areas of active cells. Watch a procession of storms marching their way to the north and east.

More than a dozen dead in next-dore Alabama. Death toll will probably skyrocket overnight. Stay glued to the boobus tubus.

Neighbors drop in because this house is so safe. We have two massive closets built literally underground straight into the side of a hill. A frightened child brings hs dog, his folks aren't home. Can he stay? Maybe have a cup of cocoa...he's dripping wet....and a towel. Of course. Then locate his parents and let them know where Junior is.

A couple of families come by just in case. Better safe than sorry. Wouldn't have it any other way. This is a real neighborhood. We take care of our own. They stay until the immediate danger passes.

And our little immediate neighborhood pelted by massive amounts of rain, has escaped the worse. A few limbs down....no serious damage.

Safe as March charges in like a an enraged, wild beast.

FIRST:
THE GOOD NEWS

THE GOOD NEWS: There is no accounting error in the most recent accounting of city finances.

THE BAD NEWS: That's what Mayor H. Mansour Ellis says.

It's business as usual in city hall, folks.
