It always amazes me how these simple minded peasant pounders of the desert sand can come up with such well lettered signs IN ENGLISH. Our own school kids couldn't do as well.

but

but
HAVE WE HEARD THE LAST GASP OF THE MACON HERITAGE FESTIVAL??
Bragg Jam in Macon this weekend. But we won’t discuss this music festival until its all over.
Should be good…lots of acts, weather looks promising, college students in town if they can be coaxed from their video games and computers.
You Tube and My Space might just prove to be the downfall of the hospitality industry at least as far as fourteen to twenty-eight-year olds are concerned.
The Bragg Jam was moved this year from midsummer to a better calendar spot…late September. It stands, despite what city hall would have us believe, the last remaining true music festival left our ‘Music City’, Have we fallen far!!!
We can discuss Bragg Jam once it is over. Brax, whose life was tragically cut short was a former student. Nice kid. A young musician with talent and potential. I never met his brother.
The B.J. has been well promoted, well organized, and has involved a broad range of local folk.

THREATS OF TERRORISM
TRUMP MOZART
THREATS OF TERRORISM
TRUMP MOZART
IDOMENEO, RE DI CRETA ("Idomeneus, King of Crete") is one of Mozart's best but, on this side of the Atlantic, least known operas.
It contains a scene in which the king appears on stage with the severed heads of Buddha, Poseidon, Jesus, and Mohammed.
Guess what? The slight suggestion of the possibility of threats from angry Muslims has caused the Berlin Opera to pull this magnificient opus.
Makes me want to pen my own opera, something done in the style of Mozart or Rossini. Let;s call it, MOHAMMED AND THE FORTY PIGS and have one scene set in a harem. It will combine the charm of The Arabian Nights, Alladin and the forty one armed thieves, magic carpets, and genis, all wrapped up in the guise of near eastern mythology where the peaceful followers of Mohammed hack and slaughter their way to world Jihad.
As a practicing Greco-Roman Classicist, I ought to engage in murder and plunder because of the inclusion of the god Poseidon, ruler of the sea.
Gosh!!

JOHN STOSSEL
on
BIG BUSINESS AND BIG GOVERNMENT
on
BIG BUSINESS AND BIG GOVERNMENT
President John Kennedy's father told him, "Businessmen are S.O.B.'s"
My Dad went a step further saying, "Son, don't trust big business, big government, or big labor unions."
My own boys they probably got sick of hearing, "Don't trust any entrenched bureaucratic organization....these exist only perpetuate themselves."
This includes major political parties like: The Party Of the Mythic jackass and The Party of the Imperial Pachyderm. I don't like 'em.
And of course it encompasses what we call Big Business, for the union between business and government makes genuine free enterprise almost impossible.
And yours truly stands four square in favor of free enterprise....but what we have today in this country is anything but.
John Stossel, ABC's maverick conservative, has written one hell of a column that appears in TOWNHALL today. It is called, simply, "BIG BUSINESS LOVES GOVERNMENT".
Relying heavily on Timothy Carney's "THE BIG RIPOFF: How Big Business and Big Government Steal Your Money", Stossel writes an inciteful column on the unholy union between government and business going back well into the indistrial revolution of the 1800's.
I recommend this highly. Go to TOWN HALL and find Stossel under Columnists.
Go get it.

DAMMIT BE CAREFUL:
KIDS DON'T HAVE ANY SENSE
KIDS DON'T HAVE ANY SENSE
The radio just informed us that another child was struck while waiting for a school bus.
That's the third this school year....two fatalities. A nine-year-old's body isn't much of a match for a carelessly-driven SUV. Little bones break easily.
One child was hit a block from here, another killed less than a mile away. Today's fatality took place on Thomaston road.
These little guys are children, they don't have much common sense, they don't come into this world with a full set of reasoning faculties.
If a child darts out, his safety is still our responsibility.
Be extra careful out there. Please. The child whose life you save could be your own.

ON A CLEAN, CLEAR, CRISP FALL MORNING
I don't own an alarm clock. I have cats instead.
Cats who think sleeping in is a sin.
Afternoon naps are OK, for they join with me then. But in this house we waste neither early morning's light, not a couple of hours of pre-dawn darkness.
The big gray, AKA Jihad, Gray Boy, or simply Castrato prefers to hit nature's trail after breakfast. His breakfast, not mine. These cats demand a feeding before my morning coffee. The lone female, Fatwa, would rather experience her out-of-doors only after the day stands in its full glory. And the kitten, or not much a kitten anymore, Wiggles, is not allowed outside unless accompanied by myself. He has no sense of direction, no fear of cars. Silly thing knowns no enemies and trusts dogs.
So, breakfast over, coffee mug in one hand, Wiggles inthe other, I gently push open the door and step into the morning dark.
The moment is perfect, sensual, exotic...furry feline on one arm, coffee too hot for MacDonald's in the other limb, a clear, star-hung sky with Orion's belt dominating the open space between two trees, a light breeze, and the cool cement of a leaf strewn patio under bare foot.
Perfect. Glorious. Tells me I am alive and well and ready to take on the full panoply of this day.

MS. RICE REPLIES TO MR. CLINTON
We know that former president Clinton became apoplectic during his interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace over the weekend. His remarks were pentulant, personal, and totally contrived.
Condoleeza Rice, however, in her measured rebuttal to Clinton's arrogance and invective, was completely dignified in her carefully crafted response. You can read part of it below:
Thank god for the old-fasioned, honorable, and diplomatic language of the State Department.

THIS IN FROM RIVERSIDE RED
DENZEL GETS IT RIGHT
WHY CAN'T MOST OF THE HOLLYWOODIES?
DENZEL GETS IT RIGHT
WHY CAN'T MOST OF THE HOLLYWOODIES?
Brooks Army Medical Center
Don't know whether you heard about this
but Denzel Washington and his family visited
the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in
San Antonio ,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This
is where soldiers who have been evacuated from
Germany come to be hospitalized in the United
States, especially burn victims. There are some
buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher
House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay,
for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying
in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses
on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled
most of the time.
While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave
him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how
much one of them would cost to build. He took his check
book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there
on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear
this story and want to get the word out to the American
public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.
The question I have is why does:
Alec Baldwin,
Madonna,
Sean Penn and
other Hollywood types
make front page news with their anti-everything
America trash and Denzel Washington's Patriotism
doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of
any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San
Antonio.

CLINTON'S RIGHT WING CONSPIRACIES
VAST
and
HALF-VAST
VAST
and
HALF-VAST
The biggest problem with Friday's tete-a-tete between Chris Wallace and Former President is that it really is a non-issue.
Of course it fits perfectly into the mass media's love affair with ratings engendering confrontation between two manufactured protagonists. I guess those news guys assume most of us can't count higher than two, since issues so pften are multi-faceted. That's the fallacy of dichotomy.
i didn't see the original, but heard frequent re-broadcasts. But i do have an idea I have not heard or seen elsewhere. Try this.
Clinton's comment about 'right wing', conservative questioning smacks, of course, of his 'little woman's' 'vast right wing conspiracy' speech in the early days of the Lewinsky affair when she was truly standing by her man, but not like some little Tammy Wynette,. Hillary is too strong a figure for that.
Question...since the former President's remark, indeed his whole diatribe, seemed somehow contrived, almost scripted, is 'vast right wing conspiracy' to become the mantra of Hillary's campaign for president.
One by one she is enfolding into her gentle bosom former Clinton Cadre members, Terry McAuliff most recently. It is doubtful that Ms. Clinton came up with the original all by herself. It smacks of professional speech writer.
Such a phrase would have great resonance in blue states, where we southerners are all too often thought most like the North Georgia natives found in DELIVERANCE.
Watch out for this one, good folks, Suspect we shall see a hell of a lot more of this kind of slanting.
Speaking of 'little women', I wonder how Ms. Nancy Grace would have handled the interview.

BEARING ARMS
Regular readers know I am a strong supporter of two things very important to me: (1) individuality; (2) the individual’s right to own guns.
That’s not to say, of course, that there are other things in life also near and dear. But I just spent a day strolling leisurely through a gun and knife show, and here lies my focus for the next few hours.
I own several firearms and have all my life. My Old Man, a pretty good Joe, started teaching me to shoot a twenty-two rifle at the age of three.

BIN LADEN DEAD?
Oh, Mon Dieu!!! Est-ce que Bin laden Mort? Ce n'est pas possible, je crois.
But the French have said that he is dead, and the French are honorable men.
Aren't they? I mean, really, aren't they honorable and not double-dealing monkeys?
That's cheese eating surrender monkeys. Brie on the breath!! Teeth of roquefort. All that sort of thing.
jacques Chirac wouldn't lie to Americans....we saved his ass from the Jerries in 1917 and 1944. A man of Chirac's character wouldn't forget our sacrifices, would he?
Merci, non!!!
A French publication tells us Bin Laden is dead...or nearly so, which is almost the same thing, ain't it?
French government denies the report. So does our State Department. Haven't heard from Usama B. L., yet. We can count on him to tell us the truth.
Who gets the twenty-five million reward if he croaked?
If a normal suicide bomber gets seventy-two virgins, how many does Ben get? Do the math...I can't count that high.
For all you do this virgin's for you.
Only slime will tell.
Whither Bin Laden? Thither Ben Laden???

GUN SHOW POLITICS
MEETING MAC COLLINS
MEETING MAC COLLINS
Until recently I had thought I would be giving my endorsement, albeit a half-hearted, kind of pro forma endorsement to Jim Marshall. He is our former mayor, after all, who used to jog through our neighborhood....my late Labrador, Bubba, was a big fan.
And Mr. Marshall has done a pretty good job as a Representative. He is basically conservative. fiscally responsible, and a strong supporter of the military, without which our part of the state would be a unmitigated disaster area.
But is he the better man for the job?
I am not sure right now. I had the chance to talk at some length with Mac Collins at our gun show this afternoon, not only Mr. Collins but the leaders of his campaign as well. It is quite possible that I will be changing my mind....but not until after considerable soul-searching.
So, dear friends, please give me two weeks to think about this matter. two weeks during which you can bombard me with information (hard, info, please, not rumor or speculation). Two weeks should be enough for me to put everything together and make my choice.
This is too important to be left to gut feeling, emotion, or the usual degenerative rhetoric that makes up the bulk of so many modern political campaigns.
Please watch this space.

HUGO CHAVEZ
THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
As this is being typed, in huddled circles around the country, GOP smart boys and stragegists are salivating over the use of Venezuelian Dictator's outrageous anti-Bish rhetoric in Harlem and earlier at the United Nations.
We shall soon see campaign ads featuring Chavez side by side with Democratic leaders saying very much the same thing. That should include Charlie Rangle and Nancy 'Big Mamma' Pelosi who professed feigned outrage over Chavez' statements in a lame effort to cover their own backsides (or is it backslides?).
It will be brutal, well funded, and most likely to hurt the 'Crats in their bid to take over the House in November.

THE RETURN
of
TERRY MCCAULIFF
of
TERRY MCCAULIFF
It's apparently a done deal, but Hillary Clinton has 'engaged' the once powerful Terry McCauliff, former DNC national Chairman, and loser of elections in 2000, 2002, and 2004 to run her presidential campaign.
The why is a myster to me, but it must have something to do with old loyalties and and an irrational belief that a one time perennial loser can morph into the next Carl Rove.
As a bet it's a long shot.
I suspect it has to do with the increasing and obvious opposition to Senator Clinton's candidacy for the highest office in the land. With the recent resurrection of losers, albeit powerful losers, Kerry and Gore, with the Party of the Mythic Jackass shifting dangerously to the left, Ms. Clinton appears increasingly like a 'moderate' or even a 'centrist', which is simply not true. The fly in her ointment is her early support for the War in Iraq, fast becoming the centerpeice of the Democrats' main strategem for victory.
McCauliff is old-line, loyal Clintonista. Maybe the former first lady will trot out the likes of James Carville (whom I like) and Paul Begala (whom I don't), whose loyalty to all things Clinton remain undimmed through the latter years of GOP hegemony. This is most likely to be her ultimate strategy....bring to the forefront the proven winners and execs of her husband's years in office, whose loyalties are beyond suspicion.
One of the weaknesses of the American political system is that individuals inspire loyalty far more often than do ideas and deeds. That's probably one of the defects of human nature. It was personal adulation and unblinking fealty that put Adolph Hitler in power.
If Clinton's campaign relies too much on the old timers from the 1990's, she will lose either in the primaries or in the general election. There are many Americans whose hatred and mistrust of the lady are waiting to be tapped. A makeover and new lipstick won't do it for her.

GUN AND KNIFE SHOW THIS WEEKEND
GUN AND KNIFE SHOW THIS WEEKEND
Yep. See some of you there....I'll be wearing my NRA cap, probably...most probably.
If you are a politician looking to get elected in forty or so days, better show up and press some flesh. Gun show people vote...in large numbers...Saw Sonny Perdue at one of these things last year.
Tell us about your 'Sonny Do' list if you can make it. Yeah, I see the ads. Not bad. Bogart and Bacall were better, but we have you and the Mrs. and they are long gone.
Several well-known local personae will be on hand tomorrow. Could be a good PR gig for local pols. Down-to-earth pols, Second Amendment pols....we don't need any Chucky 'The Greaser' Schumers or Teddy 'Rotundus' kennedys. Remember that pic of John Kerry holding a gun and talking? He didn't know it was a firearm. Thought he was making out with Theresa. Then there was the faked pic with a goose.
If you are new to the shooting sports and wish to purchase a firearm, learn hos to use it safely. The only thing worse than an idiot without a gun who doesn't know jack about firearms is an idiot with a firearm who doesn't know jack about it.
Not knowing 'jack' is not a reference to Macon's mayor, Hizzoner, C. Jack Ellis. Around here 'not knowing Jack' will probably work to your advantage.
Gunshows are family centered, a good way to spend some relaxed, educational, quality time with the wife and rug rats.
Ciao

THANKS FOR A SUCCESSFUL MEETING
THANKS FOR A SUCCESSFUL MEETING
Great meeting, great group of people. Off to a great start.
Tonight we elected Merry Bacon President and Sandy Tyson Secretary.
We didn't actually 'elect' them, it was more of a spontaneous 'unanimous consent'. But we ended up with two superb officers to steer us through opening months of growth and organization.
One of the concerns raised was the fact that members knew of situations where the Macon PD had investigated a crime, and there is no record of a report having been filed.
This is a complaint I, personally, have heard from multiple sources of late. Why? Why are crimes not being catalogue and recorded once reported by the general population?
Good question!!! Anybody have an answer?

EL DIABLO
In his polemic to the United Nations yesterday Hugo Chavez said, "I don't think anybody in this room could defend the system. Let's accept -- let's be honest. The U.N. system, born after the Second World War, collapsed. It's worthless."
The UN is useless...absolutely, Mr. Chavez, absolutely.
Useless as....heck, we covered that yesterday.
You can read the entire speech HERE I don't know how long it will be available on Drudge.
I read the whole thing pretty carefully. It was reminiscent of some of the speeches Mussolini used to make in the late twenties and thirties....kind of lumping every prejudice and 'anti' sentiment together tied lossely by some pretty obvious, low grade rhetoric. Hitler was more evil, but his speeches were better constructed.

MEGA BUST ON I-75
Crime doesn't pay.
Un;ess we don't get caught.
And hope springes ever eternal in the breast of the would-be felon, most especially, perhaps, the importers and distributers of illegal substance.
Just north of Macon, in the town of Forsyth, known decades ago as one of those pissy little Southern whistlestops that used to finance all city activities with trumped up speeding fines, an alert George State Patrole Officer made the largest bust of his life.
It may have been the fact that the large, black SUV seemed more heavily loaded than is common.
It may have been the dark complected, possibly Arab looking pair in the front buckets.
It may have been the fact that the vehicle was proceeding deliberately northward, doing something like fifteen miles per hour under the posted speed limit.
Whatever, just as soon as the lone trooper pulled the vehicle over, the passanger bolted and leaped a deer fence lining the highway. Witrh gun drawn, the officer cuffed the driver and opened the rear gate.
Where he found more than one thousand pounds of illicet California spinach having a street value of of more than a hundred thousand dollars, destined for the unsuspecting restaurants of Atlanta

"FAIR IS FOUL, AND FOUL IS FAIR
HOVER THROUGH THE FOG AND FILTHY AIR."
FAIR FONT OR FOUL?
This story comes courtesy of NEAL BOORTZ who has just today returned from a vacation in Arizona as well as a command performance at the White House.
He tells the stody of a New York State third grade teacher who used a font (reproduced below) she had downloaded from the internet to liven up a cover page she was prepared on a spelling unit for the parents of her l'il darlin's.
She didn't realize that the font represented human figures in rather indelicate poses.
She's in a little trouble with her superiors.
Frankly, I have looked at these letters and you have to look very closely to see anything offensive. That's not to say that the letters are decent. It's just that I can't tell and would probably missed all the action myself in my well-known innocent approach to everything.
Some people just have gutter level minds.

When I get excited about a Council session I try to appear in person. If not, I watch it on C. Jack 14....or record it if something important seems likely to happen. That's kind of hard to do since most of the efforts of this august body are carried out in committee meetings or behind the scenes.
Cell phones!
Please read Vic's letter.

REMINDER:
VICTOR JONES TO SPEAK AT MACON CITY COUNCIL MEETING TOMORROW
(TUESDAY)
This is it folks.
Tomorrow's the big day.
Probably prove to be the most traumatic in the history of the Gang of Fifteen.
Victor Jones will speak on compelling issues, including shoddy police work reputed to be endemic within segments of the MPD.
He has been working on his speech day and night for a week. It should be a beaut given the man's incredible verbal skills.
Weknow for a fact that he has pored more time and effort into this five minute segment than did Senator Gore or Senator Kerry on any State of the Union address.
If you can't be at City Hall in person, then please tune in to C. Joke TV, Channel 14, 6:00 PM.
SUPPORT VICTOR JONES!!!/b>

THE BOUNTY HUNTER
Poor Puppy is having his problems, stemming from a bust he made in Mexico a few years ago.
Here's a suggestion for the United States Governmnet...a win win for everybody except Mexico.
(1) Grant the man a full Presidential Pardon for any crime(s) he might have committed.
(2) Tell Mexico to 'shove it'....in Spanish, of course, maybe get Theresa Kerry to repeat her performance of two years ago.
(3) Open a Swiss account in Dog's name with the twenty-five million set aside for information leading to the arrest of Bin Laden.
(4) Send Pog to catch this bearded bastard....let him draw on the twenty-five for expenses.
GO DOG!!!!
Shove it, Mexico!!!!

LETTER FROM A FRONT-LINE MARINE
LETTER FROM A FRONT-LINE MARINE
When I opened Riverside Red's e-mail, I wasn't prepared for what I read. Twice. This is a riveting letter from an officer in the thick of things in Iraq. It is non-political, but underscoring the whole I sense a strong distrust of the civilian leadership that is calling the shots over there.
It it authentic? I assume so. Don't know for sure....but read it and see if you have a tear in your eye as did I when finished.

NEARLY FULL PROFESSOR MIKE ADAMS
BECOMES(?)

BECOMES(?)
A RADICAL MUSLIM(?)
Luke likes North Carolina's favorite (and perhaps, only) conservative Republican university professor a little more than I. But we both like good, acerbic satire. Here's one from Dr. Adams.
The good Prof converts to islam. He's been a Muslim for three whole days as of the column's writing. He lets the Pope know, in no uncertain terms, what the peaceful religion of islam is going to do if His Holiness does not offer a proper apology for the remarks made last week.
Go to TOWN HALL and look under comumnists.
No, Gingerbread Head, not 'communists', 'columnists'.
That's a little like confusing 'protestant' with 'prostitute'.

Wondering what has half the Muslim world pissed off at the Pope?
Not much, really.
Seems like it’s perfectly A-OK for members of that peaceful religion to go about beheading prisoners, murdering one another at an obscene rate, blowing up schools, women, children and non-combatants. Nobody much complains; nobody seems to think our fun loving, Quoran quoting Jihadists are doing anything out of the ordinary when they murder and maim all in the name of their Allah. More...

WHEN IRISH ARTISTS PLAY BOTH KINDS OF MUSIC
COUNTRY AND WESTERN
COUNTRY AND WESTERN
Wearing my old Kos earphones left over from my long ago hippie days.
Actually I am too old to have been a real hippie. I never did dope of any kind. Partly for reasons of morality, partly out of fear of getting arrested, and partly because I had long before earlier learned that good old American Bourbon could do everything for (and to) me I ever wanted out of a substance with potential for abuse.
I must have been a member of the 'Beat Generation',therefore, or, maybe 'an angry young man'. But, you know, I don't recall getting angry very often and avoided physical altercations like any good liberal young college student.
But my phones are being put to good use this evening....volume turned up on an old stereo (not as ancient as the phones) and listening to one of the great programs ever to come out of the peach State. It's called THE GREEN ISLE RADIO SHOW...it originates in Savannah, has a character named Harry O'Donohue as its host, complete with brogue and accent. who once a week gives us a real taste of Irish Celtic music, modern and traditional.
But tonight it's Irish 'Country'...no, not songs about the Irish countryside, rather songs done in imitation of American Country and Western. It's great stuff.
Age has degenerated my hearing to the point where I can turn the Kos up to full volume and not feel like I'm trapped inside a brazen steeple bell.
Glorious!!
The Old Man is in a groove, a grand and glorious groove, and no amount of Hip Hop or Rap will induce me to head downtown for the 'back To School' show being held tonight at the City Auditorium....if it takes place at all. There is a large question.
Back to Mr. O'Donohue....an authentic Irish musician in his own right. A genuine talent.
What a treasure.

NANCY GRACE UPDATE
The Graceless Ms. Grace was raked over the colas by the gang on FNC's NEWSWATCH this evening. Those guys were devastating.
Neal Gabler, well known writer specializing in media affairs, called her "The biggest bottom feed on Televison, adding that she, "Trades decency for ratings."
There may not be as much media decency out there as Mr. Gabler thinks..

Evening folks.
Been a quiet day here. Morning of yard work. Afternoon of opera. Georgia Public radio didn’t even mess up the feed this week. Those guys got a pretty good streak going for them…for a change.
The opera? Great, one of my favorites…Donizetti’s Elixir Of Love….an 1832 farce wrapped up in glorious, non-stop, heart pounding music beautifully sung by the D.C. company under its most excellent director Placido Domingo. Personally, I think this outfit is beginning to kick the Metropolitan’s ass from time to time. Now that’s language not often used among Opera Lover…..headline…..METROPOLITAN OPERA ASS WHUPPED BY UPSTART PLACIDO COME LATELY. Might help spread the word, guys and gals.
So right now I am sitting down to dinner, preparing myself to spend the evening writing. Just pulled a gorgeous looking Cod (Alaskan) Florentine made with fresh (of course) spinach bought for a song at a local market. Don’t know why spinach prices are so low this week. Must be a glut on the market.
So, the dish, attractively presented, is sitting atop a little side table here at my desk. It smells absolutely wonderful, looks gorgeous, and I take the first, flavorful bite. This is too good to keep for myself, guess I'll call some some friends in to share it with.
And….and……and….

In fact I don't like her at all.
We're supposed to, I guess. She's a Macon native, middle level news persona, and occasional guest on Kenny and Jami. And didn't she come down to lend her charm and warmth to the last Cherry Blossom Festival? I don't remember.
Next time she shows up in Macon, show her a copy of this brief article.
But she's also abrasive, bitchy, acerbic, and downright nasty when she interviews. nasty even for an ex prosecuting attorney.
A woman killed herself this week after a particularly insensitive Nancy Grace interview. Was that grilling a factor in her suicide? I don't know, and neither does the ineptly named Ms. Grace.
I have only tuned in to her broadcasts by mistake. A mistake that shall never be repeated.
And before some over-sensitive bimbo accuses me of being 'anti woman', or 'insensitive', the qualities I find so offensive in Grace I would find similarly distasteful in any guy.

WAR WAGED WITHOUT RANCOR
The current war on terror is unique in the annals of human warfare in that it is probably the only conflict in history waged under the aegis of political correctness.
"Thou shalt not demonize your enemy.....even if he is trying to kill you and yours without mercy or compassion, and wastes neither time nor action to demonize you."
Maybe it is possible....the administration certainly thinks so, but who knows? It's never been tried before.
We have waged war against Spics, Krauts, Japs, Jerries, Gooks, Slant Eves, Slope Heads, Heinies, Nips, and what now, 'Muslim Freedom Fighters'? Maybe, 'Religious Exteremists'? How about 'Disadvantaged Desert Dwellers'?
We play by the nice guy rules....they play the game their way, the way they have for centuries all with the blessing of their Allah?
Give me a hate-filled Muslim ultra conservative and I'll show you a damned good target.
If I ever open up a drinking establishment again, a bar, if you will, it will be named The Allah Akbar.
And that is the politically UNcorrect word of the day.

HEART OF GEORGIA GUN AND KNIFE SHOW
HEART OF GEORGIA GUN AND KNIFE SHOW
Upcoming a week from Saturday and Sunday (September 23-24, a local promotion, THE HEQRT OF GEORGIA GUN AND KNIFE SHOW will be held in the Colisseum.
Generally smaller than other similar shows that come our way, the twice-yearly HEART OF GEORGIA is, nevertheless, a quality outfit that gives local entrepreneurs a chance to show off their products and services to a generally local audience.
This is one I recommend personally and will be there myself on Saturday and probably on Sunday as well.
Gun shows are first rate family entertainment. Kids under twelve get in free if accompanied by an adult. More and more are we seeing family units, mammas included, taking the time to browse and buy.
Look carefully and you will find bargains galore. I always do.

Lots of questions about this weekend, folks.
Haven't heard much advertising and promotion.
It's like C. Jack's Big Bang is more like a wet firecracker.
Macon's most informed citizen, Newton Collier, told me this evening that the Sam Moore Show had been moved to the Civic Auditorium for some reason. Start time should be 6:30, if Jack's groupies follow the original schedule.
There are several rumors abroad on the land that the festival is in fincial hot water.
So what else is new?

COMING TO CITY COUNCIL MEETING SEPTEMBER 19th.
VICTOR JONES
VICTOR JONES
Victor Jones is a formidable opponent.
Especially when he's mad.
Even more when he's 'totally PISSED OFF'.
I have been told on excellent authority that Mr. Jones will take five minutes of Macon City Council's precious(?) time next Tuesday, September 19th. to address some important public safety issues that have, until now, remained largely under officialdom's radar, to say nothing of the media.
Please attend the meeting at City Hall in person if you can, if not tune in to C. Jack T.V., cable channel 14. Anita Ponder will gavel the session to order about 6:00 PM.
There may be some fireworks then, but even if the session comes off in a gentlemanly, civilized manner, the reprocussions of Mr. Jone's five minutes will resonate until the last syllable of C. Jack's reign. Be forewarned.
I plan to be there up close and in person.

NEWS FROM THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF ORGANIZED RELIGION
The attached article appeared last week in the WALL STREET JOURNAL and was sent to us by a favorite reader. (Since retiring, frankly, I don't read the WSJ as regularly as I once did.) It concerns some of the results and consequences, intended and not of the movement to ever larger congregations. Even this ancient and dedicated atheist found it fascinating even without a dog in the fight.
My guess is that church is more about belonging than believing. We will hit that idea at a later time, but I guess people feel more comfortable hanging with folks who think as they do (or 'don't think', in many cases).
Anyway, the article is more than well worth your time. Please click on 'MORE' and enjoy.

ABC's
THE PATH TO 9/11
THE PATH TO 9/11
I had not planned to watch this ABC six hour special, especially after sources said it had been ‘gutted’, that the network had caved in to pressure from the Klintonistas, and that it was riddled with error and inconsistency.
Some of that might be true, I don’t know for sure. But I found the presentation riveting and watched the entire thing and TV is not something I waste much time on.
Taking politics out of my personal equation, the PATH TO 9/11 had one message so overwhelming, so powerful, so true in a government where a tangled web of hidebound bureaucracy is the norm, to wit: THE REAL BUSINESS OF EVERYBODY GOVERNMENT IS TO COVER THINE OWN ASS.

EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
The daughter of my oldest friend (sadly, deceased not long ago) sent in the following. It is an article that compares California and Iraq in ways i never dreamed of previously. It is a hell of a read and well worth a few minutes of your time to read and inwardly digest.
I am curious about the original author. He's a classics professor, Greek and Latin Classics, the only such I recognize. When I entered the University of Michigan way back in 1961 I attended that graduate school primarily so that I could study under a Professor Hanson, a first rate scholar and researcher into the mysterious elements of later Roman religion. My teacher died many years ago. Wonder if they ar related. Looks like a Google night...or Opera, which I sometimes prefer as a search engine.

RECALLING
9/11/

9/11/
and
12/7
One of the very first things I have a singular and vivid memory of way back in 1941 was the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese military machine.
I was less than three years old.
It wasn’t the fighting and the carnage that upset that terrible two, it was my parents’ emotional reaction to the news of the bombing. Dad paced the floor with determined strides, cussed, and phoned his friends….mother cried and called her family.
It was fascinating.
It’s been almost sixty-five years since that horror; I have had occasion to recall it and my own static, childish presence within many, many times.
But never more poignantly than I did five years ago when the events of 9/11 unfolded on the universal TV screen.

IS EXTORTION THE LATEST TOOL OF THE SENATE'S DEMOCRATS?
It appears that the Democratic Senatorial leadership has sunk to a new low....even for them.
In light of the upcoming 9/11 special airing over two days on the ABC network, members of the Party of the Mythic Jackass take exception to certain dramatic elements and segments of what might be called a 'documentary'. Former president Clinton has weighed in requesting changes...as have many others who do not wish to see their party leaders portrayed as being weak in the Homeland Security cum terrorism department.
Two days ago Harry Reid and several leading Senate Dems sent a letter to Bob Iger, president and CEO of Disney, parent company of ABC Television.
The letter contained not so veiled threats about potential retaliation were ABC to run the special as it exists. Iger is reminded of the power of the federal government in the granting of FCC licenses...which seems to be a very direct reminder and threat of the governments power to give and to take away.
The questional poertion of the letter is found below in italics. The entire letter can be found by clicking MORE.
What the hell is harry Reid thinking, if, indeed, that is what the process is called?
The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest. Nowhere is this public interest obligation more apparent than in the duty of broadcasters to serve the civic needs of a democracy by promoting an open and accurate discussion of political ideas and events.
Disney and ABC claim this program to be based on the 9/11 Commission Report and are using that assertion as part of the promotional campaign for it. The 9/11 Commission is the most respected American authority on the 9/11 attacks, and association with it carries a special responsibility. Indeed, the very events themselves on 9/11, so tragic as they were, demand extreme care by any who attempt to use those events as part of an entertainment or educational program. To quote Steve McPhereson, president of ABC Entertainment, “When you take on the responsibility of telling the story behind such an important event, it is absolutely critical that you get it right.”
Unfortunately, it appears Disney and ABC got it totally wrong.

CLUELESS GOP LADIES
FROM MACON
ABUSED BY HACK WRITER AS SEEN IN
THE DRUDGE REPORT
FROM MACON
ABUSED BY HACK WRITER AS SEEN IN
THE DRUDGE REPORT
There is little in this wide world that fries my aging fern more than hack writing posing as responsible journalism.
Such an article appeared this morning on THE DRUDGE REPORT. I would have passed it by if it were not the subject of discussion WMAC’s Kenny B. and Jami G. Show.
He piece initially caught their attention because it carried a Macon dateline….wow macon on Drudge. You can read it for yourself...simply click on MORE for a link.
To summarize the thing, the writer cites a Maryland based professor and an AP poll which seem to indicate that President Bush has lost much of his support in the Southland. She (the writer) then moves to Middle Georgia where she quotes several local women, some of whom are known to all of us, which quotes seem to support the Professor’s contention, and the poll’s findings.
HOLD IT RIGHT THERE….we print all the news that fits…..we fit all the news we print…what’s going on. What kind of simplistic, hack journalism are we seeing here. I sent an email (some of which is reproduced below) to our early morning Dynamic Duo which Kenny skillfully and carefully edited for obvious reasons. What can be said here, cannot always be said on air.
Here is the letter as written but augmented subsequently:
You are making far too much of the Breitbart.com article quoted by Drudge. It cites one professor in Maryland, an AP poll, and a handful of local women. While the poll might have relevance for the entire south, there is no attempt to quantify or qualify trends among women voters here in the heart of Georgia. You cannot extrapolate anything of substance from a few slanted snips of quotation. Where is the balance? How many women did the writer interview? What was their political breakdown? Demographics? Balance? Intelligence?
Betcha anything the 'reporter' found them together at a luncheon and let them talk to her recorder fortified by a couple of glasses of vino. There is absolutely nothing trustworthy about the piece. Maybe they met at a bar after work….a bunch of gossipy gals sitting down some serious quaffing, suddenly approached by a VOILA…A REPORTER, A.P. REPORTER, even. This time the reporter was none other than Atlanta based Queen of Hack, Shannon McCaffrey. I assume, though it could be wrong this ‘Shannon’ is a woman, for she so often writes about women’s issues.
One of the women cited was described to me by a former Principal at Stratford Academy (who must obviously remain anonymous) as, "The stupidest (white) woman I ever met." Taking out the racial slur simply makes the poor woman supremely ignorant in a much larger arena. Simply because she is described in that most unfortunate and pejorative manner, does not make that quote valid. This same kind of non-validity should be applied to McCaffrey’s ‘effort’.
It is unfortunate that the writer has chosen our local ladies to prove her point. They ought to be insulted, but the fact that they have been mis-used in this unseemly manner has most likely passed somewhat above their heads.
It’s almost Republican Abuse.

ONE OF THE SEVEN DEADLY NO-NO's
The photograph that accompanies this piece was found in the tabloid, LONDON DAILY MAIL.
And it is gross. It shows a fully grown python immediately after it has swalled a pregnant ewe, that is, for those educated recently in Georgia's public schools, a female sheep.
Reminds me of the drawings that accompanied the original French (and English) editions of LE PETIT PRINCE, where there is a fanciful drawing of a large snake after having swalloed...an Elephant. (Child's inagination).

CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING
THIS SHOULD SCARE THE HELL OUT OF US
This is Vic Jones at his best.
He's angry, frustrated, impatient with what seems to be the inertia and CYA attitude of members of the Gang of Fifteen, The Macon City Council.
This report on yesterday's public Safety Committee meeting will gladden the heart of any career criminal or any young person intent on pursuing a life of crime.
Do we have crime in Macon that is going unreported to make the stats 'look good'? Why is the MPD having trouble finding space for violent criminals in the County Jail?
This is a must read, folks. For some time now I, personally, have had the feeling that the inmates are running this asylum. Whom do we trust? Is 'protect and serve' a hollow, meaningless phrase?
Read On......and please comment.

I arrived alone and unafraid on these deep Southern Shores just over thirty years ago, in 1976.
A year or so later i read that Anjette Lyles, a former maconite and resident of Central State Hospital had died. Central State is the large institution thirty miles from Macon where the state locks up some of its people who have major mental problems.
The rest, we think, find employment as politicians or teachers in our public institutions of lower learning.
Now Anjette was a convicted murderer and, in 1977, she was still a bit contentious topic because, as is so common among older Maconites, she was related, it seemed, to half the town.

AUSTRALIA'S CROCODILE HUNTER DEAD
I don't know any details yet, but the guy dubbed 'the Croc Hunter' was killed this weekend. The alleged perps are a gang of juvenile sting rays and are, presumably, still at large.
Tragedy? No, not exactly a tragedy, but a death that could have been prevented, the death of a popular TV performer who entertained millions world wide.
By doing odd and dangerous things including playing with crocodiles and poisonous snakes, risking his life many times a year.
For ratings. TV ratings. Television ratings almighty.
Looks like the the kinder and gentler Animal Planet is dedicated to putting its stars in mortal danger for the purpose of self promotion. The weather channel and other 'news' outlets has been doing it with hurricanes for a few years now. Following the success of reality TV videotaping cast members on the ragged edge of a death rattle is all the rage.
Newton Minnow once called television 'a vast wasteland'. That was back in the sixties. Think how far we have fallen since then.

NAZIS AND FASCISTS AND ALL THEM MUSLIMS
We make a mistake, and that includes an embattled president, when we throw pejorative terms around in our efforts to label that enemy who is plotting the downfall of what you and I call ‘Western Civilization’.
Much has been made of words like ‘Fascist’ and occasionally ‘Nazi’. ‘Islamo-Fascist being the tag currently promoted by our leaders…and many on the talk show right.
I guess what these folks are trying to do is raise the awareness that the current crisis following the attacks of 9/11/01, is every bit as serious as what we went through during World War Two, when we bent our every ounce of energy to defeating an ‘axis’ enemy consisting mostly of Germany and Japan.

WHY PROFILING IS NO LONGER NECESSARY
The federal government now has a new and very effective tool which will help keep our airports safe from Muslim Terrorists bent on destroying us and our way of life.
All airport security has to do is keep a little closer eye on the parking facilities:

After more than a century, the venerable New York Times, America's quondam 'Newspaper Of Record', has changed the motto appearing on the masthead of every issue.

Last week I purchased a burger and fries at McDonalds for $3.58.The
counter girl took my $4.00 and I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave
it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies. While
looking at the screen on her register, I sensed her discomfort and tried
o tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for
help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there
and cried. Why do I tell you this? More...
