THE LAST WORD ON
STATE ASSEMBLY RACE
DISTRICT 137

Three weeks ago I penned a brief article backing STEBIN HORNE'S candidacy in this race over three other GOP contenders.

Now that the contest has narrowed down to a two-way affair between Mr. Horne and political novice Allen Peake, my support remains solidly behind Stebin.

Mr. Peake has run an amazing campaign. I caught wind of it effect some weeks ago when I asked a chap from that district how he was going to vote.

"Why, I'm voting for Allen Peake, of course. He goes to my church."

Nothing about qualifications except that he is a member of a particular congregation. This is proof of the effectiveness of the Peake Campaign. It is based on two things: first, a calculated personal relationship, real or imagined, with a significant number of voters; second, a campaign mantra chanted over and over that he is a businessman and can bring business acumen to state government.

Doesn't work that way, folks. Sorry.

Business is a very different thing from politics. The two require very different skills, background, and temperment. The impication in the boast 'I am a businessman' is that 'I will economize and balance the budget' making broad appeal but this is based on pure, speculation amd assumption.

The truth is that government exists to serve its people; business exists to make a profit.

Allen was a very fine businessman I guess, one who came to politics late.

Stebin, on the other hand, came to politics early and paid his dues as one of the youngest Maconites ever to sit in the horseshoe as an effective, respected member of the Gang of Fifteen. He did a fine job, learning from older Council members of both parties, and clearly made a mark for himself in the arena of practical politics over a long period of time. His natural political instincts were honed and refined in the contentious crucible of city government. It doesn't get any more basic than that.

He will bring to the general Assembly several years experience, accrued good will, hard work, and effective networking that will make him an unqualified leader in state government, a leader who will continue to work hard on behald of the good folks in District 137..

We continue our strong support for Mr. Horne.

ATTACK ON QANA
THE TRUTH LIES SOMEWHERE IN-BETWEEN

There is no question that almost three dozen women and children were killed in the Israeli attack on Qana in Lebanon.

There is, as well, no doubt that the world, including most of the media, lept to immediate condemnation of the bombing.

Hezbollah has housed its terror weapons in civilian buildings since long before the opening shot of the current conflict.

An investigation by the Israel Denense Forces seems to indicate that the building was toppled almost eight full hours after the bombing. It is possible that the slaughter took occurred because of munitions storred by Muslim Hezbollah in a facility open to civilian families.

Said an israeli spokesman, "'The attack on the structure in the Qana village took place between midnight and one in the morning. The gap between the timing of the collapse of the building and the time of the strike on it is unclear," Brigadier General Amir Eshel, Head of the Air Force Headquarters told journalists at the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, following the incidents at Qana.' (Source, DRUDGE)

In our era of instant global communication we tend to believe the first thing we hear as long as it agrees with our inbred predilections. Wish the media could take a more introspective view of such events and hold back 'opinion' until all the facts are in.

More and more news is nothing but propaganda.

MAMMAS, DON'T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE
FUNDAMENTALIST MUSLIMS
A TALE OF TWO CULTURES

When you click on MORE you will find two images, one of them very disturbing.

They illustrate one very fundamental difference between our Western Society and the medieval, restrictive, primitive Sharia-type law that Muslim Fundamentalists would impose upon the whole world.

Convert them....or enslave them.....or kill them. Those are your choices if you follow this primitive Muslim regimen. Doesn't offer many acceptable cjoices for the rest of us.

The two pictures give a good idea of the differences between 'us' and 'them' in the matter of raising children. The first photo was sent in by a loyal reader in the British Isles who does not wish to be identified...so shy is he. The second came in from Maconite 'Riverside Red', a bright, perceptive kindred soul who shares many of my personal world views.

The photos illustrate 'punuishment' of children. Imagine that the first boy has done something wrong and is spending a little quality time with the author of his being. Nothing serious.

In the second photo an eight-year-old Iranian boy has been caught stealing bread in a public place. His punishmenmt....his entire arm is crushed under the weight of a vehicle. He will never have use of that limb again. Sharia. He is being held in place by a grown man. Eight years old!!! Steal, you get your hand lopped off. If you are a woman and have a little tryst, you will likely be stoned to death. There are four or five photographs in the Sharia series. Frightening stuff. It is more than enough to make a strong man sick.

Stoning? That's Old Testament stuff in our culture. Hell, we haven't burned a witch since 1691 or so....and those guys, the Puritans, were fundamentalist Christians.

There is a lesson here.

Several readers have asked me to expand this basic idea into a series. You can read about Bunza the P.K. here in the b'log or HERE where there are links from one chapter to another.

Again, this is fiction. Any similarity between these young characters and real life kids is entirely an unintended coincidence>

VIC JONES ON
CRABPOTS, CRABS, CRABAPPLES
COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION
POLITICALLY IMPOTENT POLITICIANS
and
MENTORING

There has been a heap o' fallout from the Macon P.D.'s no show last night at our local. first-ever community watch organization meeting.

I mentioned that one of the folks I would be none other than Vic Jones. local activist and Jack of all trades. He has been called 'factotum' , ombudsman, and one hell of a great guy.

Vic wrote a letter, as I suspected he might, which you can find simply by clicking MORE just below. Said letter has already reached deep into the vital organs of official Macon. It pulls no punches and should inspire all of us to greater things.

It has to do, to put it bluntly, to not letting the bastards wear us down. Macon desperately needs leadership.....we can do one hell of a lot better than what we have.

SUPPOSE THEY THREW A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PARTY
AND THE POLICE DIDN'T COME

Our first ever neighborhood watch meeting was a winner...twenty one souls met together and talked and discussed and traded names, numbers, addresses, and emails.

According to the flyers we received from Ms. Eunice L. Richard, 'Crime Prevention Coordinator' (tel: 751-2797), "Police personnel from the 1st. Precinct will attend this meeting to answer our questions and address out concerns."

Trouble is, no cops showed up. Ms. Eunice L. Richard was a no-show as well.

A hurried call by one of our hostesses to the First. Precinct let us know they were completely unaware of our meeting, and, somebody added, 'we're sorry'.

There is something very wrong here. Almost two dozen people take the time to show up to help prevent crime in a vulnerable neighborhood, and the promised help and support from the City of Macon doesn't materialize.

A copy of this is being sent to Chief Burns, to the Mayor's Office, and to our three City Council representatives. More important, a copy goes to Vic Jones, Macon's very own Superman.

The evening's saving grace lies in the wonderful folks who showed up and took part in a lively, informal discussion. We have the folks we need as well as the enthusiasm. Boulevard and environs will have a Neighborhood Watch whether we get help from officialdom or not.

Reckon there will be some irate phone calls in the morning, gang. Stay tuned.

THE KISS OF DEATH
IN GEORGIA

Congresswitch Cynthia McKinney has endorsed Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor in his bid to defeat Sonny Perdue in the upcoming gubernatorial contest.

McKinney, herself in a run off election for a congressional seat once deemed her own personal feifdom, has not been endorsed by Mr. taylor in return.

Turnabout is usually fair play, but not in any political arena featuring this controversial woman.

Her endorsement has most likely doomed Taylor's chances for a November victory.

ANDREA YATES:
NOT GUILTY BY VIRTUE OF....

Many will be upset with this most recent verdict. There is something in all of us that demands retribution for the murder of children.

Especially when their mother is the killer.

But this verdict is the correct one. No sane person could have drowned those babies, one after another.

Best she spend the rest of her life in an institution as far removed from kids as she can get.

I doubt that anybody reading this could ever understand what happened that day, what caused this total and complete corruption of a mother's love.

FROM VIC JONES
A TWOFER
MENTORS' PROJECT
and
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

This is local material, for you non-Maconites, but it is the stuff of which the future of our land may one day be built upon.

It is a letter from Vic Jones. Mr. Macon Factotum, and deals with some very real action taking place in his neck of the woods on the twin subjects of Mentoring and Neighborhood Watch.

And they are related, folks. The only way we can turn these gangster wannabes around is to reach them at least a decade before they decide that there is more love in gangland than within their own families. neighbiorhoods, churches, and schools.

"Give me your child until age six and he will be ,ine forever." That phrase the modus operandi of what might have been the best education of all time, that taught by the Jesuit Order of the Roman Catholic Church.

There is some real truth in this.

Please read on.

Don't think we've had a down day all summer....until today. This is not a real b'log entry, this is an apology for there being no entries.

I did spend an hour this evening at Academy Sports discussing PAINT BALL equipment with a bunch of teen kids who really know the subject. KERRY IN DETROIT

Speaking at Honest John's Bar in Detroit over the weekend, John Kerry, would-be POTUS, announced over whatever he was quaffing, "If I was president, this (the current Middle East Situation) wouldn't have happened."

Other than misusing the mood and tense of the verb 'to be' (If I were president, again trying to show that he is truly a man of the people, and not just another, run-of-the-mansion, wooden indian, Boston Aristocr, Kerry addressed the noon-day crowd who listened with mild amusement and genuine disinterest.

Some Honest John's patrons were actually reported to be sober. Others were clearly in full party mode which seemed to make the Kerrystiff and uncomfortable. Well, uncomfortable, anyway, since he is by nature 'stiff' to begin with.

Said one member of the audience after it was over, "Yeah, if Kerry were president today we would all be speaking Arabic."

SPORTS NEWS
THIS JUST IN
AMERICAN FLOYD LANDIS WINS TOUR DE FRANCE

As improbably as it sounds, yet another American has whipped the entire French nation at its own best sport.

Sort of like the Taiwanese or Japs winning the World Series.

When informed of the American victory, Jacques Chirac is reported to have said, "Rien ! ! Je ne peux pas croire que le fils américain d'une chienne nous a battus encore". Which means something like I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT AMERICAN SOB BEAT US AGAIN.

Chirac was speaking into his sixth glass of cognac grumbling about probable drug use among the competitors from the U.S.

A special session of the French General Assembly was called for the first week in August, but since all members will be on mandatory six week holiday, that will be impossible.

Chirac's minister of sport was guillotined by an angry mob in a Parisian suburb within minutes of Landis' victory.

MY WAR WITH GEORGIA PUBLIC RADIO

What, war? With a public radio network? Conflict with those left wingy, pacifisto, nastinesst-avoiding, Bush bashing, pinko, commie, tree hugging, bleeding heart, limp-wristed group of peacenicks?

Well sort of. And it's pretty serious.

But it has nothing to do with political position, pander, or posture.

It's a technical thing that has morphed into a major pain in my gluteus maximus

It has been going on for some months now. I listen to NPR with fervid regularity (1) Saturday afternoons for the Opera of the week; (2) Saturday night when I love to hear broadcasts of folk, Gaelic, and bluegrass music....three hours of sheer delight, two thirdfs of which originate right here in Georgia More...

BUNZA STEELE and GNAT
part one

Two items posted here recently have brought in a deluge of email. Yesterday's piece, CYNTHIA MCKINNEY FOR PRESIDENT was one. More 'are you out of your mind' email has appeared on this screen in the last day than in any other twenty-four hour period.

Second place goes to a short story about a local Preacher's kid nicknamed 'Bunza Steele' by his peers for his annoying habit of saying during what should be a moment of blessed silence 'I have buns of steel.' And doing it often, of course.

So today click MORE if you would like to read the first part of a further adventure of Bunza introducing this time his best friend, classmate, and fellow conspirator Nolan, another charter member of the local junior mafia, a gaggle of of local kids who chucked, whether by intelligent design or subconsciously, all trappings of modern political correctness.

These characters are fictional, of course, entirely so. And if they seem to bear any resemblence to real live, troublemaking middle schoolers, such is a pure coincidence.

FIGHT FAIRLY, ISRAEL!!!

It was yesterday early morning when I heard one of those abysmal, though mercifully truncated, ABC radio news broadcasts proclaiming that some number of Lebanese had been killed in the fighting along with a specific number of Israelis.

The count was most definitely on the side of the descendants of Abraham.

More dead lebanese….fewer dead jews.

And somehow, this was not a ‘fair’ thing. Dovetails nicely with Putin’s ‘disproportional force’ position.

And the idea has been batted about a number of left-leaning b’logs: there is a certain degree of unfairness since more Arabs are dying than Israelis.

My old man had a phrase that described the mental capabilities of this sort of person. He referred to them collectively as ‘shit for brains’, but only after the second bourbon of the evening?

I don’t have a problem with thinking liberals or conservatives/ It’s the completely knee-jerk variety, the kind most common in cyberspace that truly fry my fern. Anybody who thinks modern warfare should mean some kind of equity in death is brain dead. We have come a long ways since the days of the French and Indian Wars when The French General Montcalm insisted the British invader, Wolf, fire first.

One of the primary purposes of modern conflict is to ‘degrade’ your enemy….kill enough of him so that he can’t threaten you in the future. Easy enough to understand, even for an unthinking reader of b’logs.

The Israelis must use overwhelming force not only to ‘win’ this one, they need to convince the Arab street it isn’t as all-Allah-powerful as they think they are. Your average Arab Muslim is, to be totally accurate, thought impertinently un-politically correct, is a peasant, a peasant in the medieval sense of the world. Muslim peasants understand force….they are used to it. They respect it. Negotiation will never work. Only force.

And the Arab on the Arab Street must relearn that lesson every few years.

Go Israel!!!

GEORGIA'S PRIMARY AFTERMATH

National attention has been riveted on yesterday's Peach State Primaries. Goody for us.

Some surprises from yesterday’s primary. Great stuff.

First of all, the darlin’ of the Christian Coalition, Ralph Reed, was easily defeated by Casey Cagle in the Republican race for Lieutenant Governor. This is as it should be. Voters apparently saw through Reed’s obvious attemps to play down his ties to his money days as a Washington Consultant, representing Jack Abramoff and specialized gambling interests.

That’s the trouble with D.C…..most people don’t have the moral integrity Not to be tainted by its promise of wealth and power, as well as the heady blandishment of becoming an insider. For all his imagined ‘Christian Principles’, baby-faced Ralphie proved himself no better or worst than the rest of these our brethren. He became just one more whore, selling himself to the special interests which have so corrupted a fragile political process.

And Cynthia McKinney is being forced into a run-off in three weeks. Last night she brought along another Cynthia, Sheehan, Cynthia, to help her celebrate what became a narrow and hollow victory. McKinney is vulnerable. Her well-documented antics, her overt racism, her disregard for her constituency and incessant self-promotion have begun to take their toll. Neal Boortz pointed out this morning that the overwhelming majority of donors to the McKinney Cause bore Muslim or Arab names. Does this surprise us that folks well-disposed to the destruction of the United States would support this woman and her crass anti-Americanism.

We will have an article coming out online about MS. McKinney. Don’t miss it.

YES I DID!!!

I voted this morning.

This old duffer has voted in every election since November 1960 when he had the choice between Kennedy and Nixon as the presidential candidates. That was a long time ago, my Senior year in college back when i was a somewhat rebellious Republican.

True, I missed two or three primaries when I was out of the country. But at least one of those was done by absentee ballot.

I couldn't stomach the young shitheads who made up that group of undergraduates known as 'Young Republicans'.

What? You don't understand. Why kiddo, just go rent a copy of my favorite movie, ANIMAL HOUSE and scope out the 'other' guys, the ones who wore the suits with the narrow lapels, were in league with Dean Wormer, and were the non Delts. Neidermeyer and company....that was the typical Young Republican of my undergraduate days.

Been buckin' the system ever since, Bucko, and it's been a trip and a half.

Oh....how did I vote today? Or, way back in 1960.

Simple.....I voted my conscience and convictions.

PRIMARY DAY IN GEORGIA

State officials predict that twenty-two percent of Georgia's registered voters will turn out today to cast votes in this primary election.

Twenty-two percent.

Not even twenty-two percent of the total voting age population.

Hell, no....twenty-two percent of the registered voters.

That sucks. We don't deserve the democracy hard-won by our ancestors. We are an ignorant, lazy under-educated, stupid, bunch of inbred rednecks and blacknecks who haven't the brains to participate in the election process.

I would say more, but the polls just opened and I intend to vote early.

OFF THE RECORD AND UNSCRIPTED
THE HUMAN SIDE OF WORLD LEADERSHIP

It wasn't as juicy as Vice President Cheney's "Fuck You" directed at Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont on the Senate Floor, but it was pretty good.

In an informal conversation this weekend with his friend TontY Blair at a point when a microphone was left live. The following sentence was uttered by Mr. Bush: "You see, the ... thing is what they need to do is to get Syria, to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it's over."

I suppose the leftie b'logs will attack his choice of words. I, for one, think it's perfect.

For a modest fee, yours truly is willing to give 'cussing lessons' to anybody who would like to enter politics and needs to find just the right bon mot to fit an occasion.

RECAPITULATION
OUR CHOICES IN TOMORROW'S GEORGIA PRIMARY

No, we haven't entered the lists in regards every conflict. Our endorsements are carefully selected to cut through the bovine excrement flooding our yards, the airways, the internet, and the print media. Some of these campaigns have been particularly brutal this summer, using largely negative tactics and half truth coupled with the long arm of modern advertising.

Having said that, LUKE'S B'LOG endorses the following:

1. For Governor in the Republican Primary: SONNY PERDUE

2. For Lieutenant Governor (Republican Primary): CASEY CAGLE

3. For Georgia general Assembly District 137 (Republican Primary) STEBIN HORNE

In Georgia we do not register to vote by party. I can walk into my local polling place and simply let the clerks know whether I choose to vote as a member of The Party of the Mythic Jackass or The Party of the Imperial Pachyderm. It won't happen, but i sure like this system better than primary voting according to strict party registration as I did in other states of my former residency.

LET'S REVIEW WHAT WE LEARNED HERE TODAY
GEORGIA VALUES

It's primary time in The Peach State.

If you 'ain't from here', that doesn't mean much to you. To those of us native born or adoptive, the lead up to an election is the time to listen to a constant barrage of radio and TV spots in which each candidate lays forth for all to see his right wing chops, his conservative values, his 'Georgia Values'.

I suppose in other far-flung corners of the Republic we would find 'Nebraska' or 'Rhode Island' Values. Bet those characters couldn't qualify that either. ''California Values' would scare the hell out of me.

Of course nobody defines Georgia values which is the nice thing
about politics, the voter can read into such pithy statements anything he wants.

"Liberal" is a fighting word, unless you're Cynthic McKinney, then 'Bitch' may be more operative.

We have young conservatives, older conservatives, conservatives who have been businessmen, conservatives members of the Georgia Bar, conservative unemployables.

But we are all conservative, if we be candidates for office, anyway, if only in the thick of a campaign.

Allen Peake seems to have the record for the sheer number of times he implies he is a 'conservative' in a single thirty-second slot. That's unscientific research, of course. Just caught me as humorous whenI heard it twice during some gawd-awful late night TV show.

It will be over Tuesday...unless there is need for a run-off or two. Then we get to do it all over again as we near the November elections.

American Democracy is a flawed thing. But it sure beats the hell out of anything else.

A STATE OF WAR

We are in the middle of fighting a world war.

It is a war that will determine the future of Western Civilization.

It has been going on for quite some time. Sad thing is American politicians didn't have a clue that they were involved in a shooting war until 9/11.

We aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. Maybe we don't deserve to win this one.

Read on.

SHOULD ISRAEL SHOW RESTRAINT??

As the conflict in the Middle East escallates with every WHUMP of an Iranian made rocket, the world seems fairly united in its blanket statements for Israel.

"SHOW RESTRAINT!!!"

It has become a mantra...rasped and repeated from every many nations, every continent, such responsible (?) groups as The European Union, Nato, the vaunted United Nations. SHOW RESTRAINT, ISRAEL!!!

Ask yourself this simple question. If some terrorist group were to fire rockets from Canada or Mexico into a town or city within the U.S., should we, would we show restraint?

The answer is, of course, a thunderous NO!! We would (should) go after them with every force we have even if it means an incursion into a foreign country.

Same with Israel. This mess has been orchestrated by Iran, pressing poor Syria into the service of Jihad.

There is no such thing as 'disproportional force'. What is needed is overwhelming force to put an end to the problem.

AN OPEN LETTER TO
PARENTS OF OBESE (FAT) KIDS

There is a minor tempest brewing over what term we should use to describe overweight children.

Childhood fat has become a major problem in our couch potato society. But the PC crowd seems hell bent on shielding parents and their little chubettes from the slings and bolts of raw truth.

"Obese" and "Fat" are considered by many to be insulting to little ears and likely to cause psychological trauma in fat fed little minds.

Horsecrap. In our insanity to protect feelings, many parents continue to insulate their offspring from the dangers of obesity.

AND WHY NOT
FANTASY POLITICS?

DREAM TICKET

You may be one of them.

You know, the guys who like to play fantasy football or fantasy baseball in the off-season.

Probably have fantasy in other sports, but this is Georgia and hockeyhasn't caught on much down here. basketball? Well, the Hapless Hawks are among the worst in the NBA.Besides i wouldn't walk across a street to see overpaid thugs double dribbling.

I play a variant on the theme from time to time and have picked my favorite candidates for President and Vice President in 2008. I don't care what party, if any, they represent...I simply want to have a chance to elect: JOE LIEBERMAN as PRESIDENT and his partner ZELL MILLER as VEEP.

That's my dream ticket....what's yours?

REPUBLICAN PRIMARY
OUR PICK FOR GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 137

Who is the most conservative candidate in all of North Macon?

Who will do the best job for district 137, a largely white enclave of folks with enough money to escape the horrors of a decaying inner city, and the gross inadequacies of the county school system?

Who best stands for lower taxes, strong families, ‘Georgia values’, better education, crime, law and order, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera?

Who, indeed?

We're about to give one b'log's considered opinion!!!

WASHINGTON D.C.
AMERICA'S CRIME CAPITOL

There is a huge upsurge in violent crime taking place in Washington, D.C.

We’re not talking about politicians robbing the everyman to line their own pockets, we’re talking muggers, rapists, murderers…the whole gamut of twenty-first century urban thug. There have been, according to the Associated Press, thirteen murders so far THIS MONTH and crime in its every ugly form targeting tourists and taking place in once safe locations like The Washington Mall, that section of the city devoted to historical, commemorative sites. That area is not under control of the D.C. Police Department, but rather the National Parks services.

Mall visitors are being asked to: “"be our eyes and ears," said Sgt. Scott Fear of the Park Police.. "We're going to ask them to be vigilant."

There is a better way, of course. Instead of making every effort to control legal handguns in and around the district, Washington should begin allowing law-abiding citizens the right to carry weapons for personal protection. A good start would be to let those with the right to carry concealed in their home states, do so in the precincts of Washington.

Then, when some self-styled Ninja bad guy, or urban tough meets up with a slug in the chest courtesy of Mr. or Ms Law Abiding citizen, the crime rate will decline.

It's getting as dangerous to live in Washington as it is to live in New Orleans.

HOW TO WIN AN ELECTION IN DEKALB COUNTY, GEORGIA

If you are CYNTHIA MCKINNEY, arrogant, black and secure in your under-educated, knee-jerk political base, all you have to do is be a 'NO-SHOW' at up to debate your opponents.

(For those of you 'who ain't from here' please remember that the overwheling majority of Georgia citizens are not McKinney supporters.)

BURNING THE FLAG
vs
SHOOTING THE Q'RAP OUT OF THE Q'RAN

It’s OK to burn the American Flag. At least for now. Some congressional pisspot will submit another flag-burning amendment in a year or two, probably in time for the general election of 2008.

But what about shooting the shit out of the Muslim holy book, the Quoran? Drilling it full of holes and dumping the body at a mosque in, of all places, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

And, in a move reminiscent of the old JACKASS TV show, the guys that did it are supposed to have left a video of their deed on MYSPACE. Video’s name, KILL THE KORAN.

The situation has upset Ibrahim Hooper, mouthpiece for CAIR, The Council of American Islamic Relations, who has filed a complaint with the Justice Department. The FBI is looking into the matter.

Haven’t heard from A-CAIR yet. Might in a day or two.

So what do we have? Grounds for a hate crime or simply a couple of morons exercising their right of free expression. If we can burn a US Flag, we ought to be able to shoot holes in the Quoran or the Bible or writings of Zoroaster, right?

My own inclination is that this is a free speech matter, its obvious offensiveness notwithstanding. This country must never become like our increasingly brain-dead European cousins who are inching closer to law that makes it a crime to ridicule or even condemn a religion. Make that THE Muslim religion. Have to treat those clowns with kid gloves. Can’t even publish a pic of their prophet, can we?

Well this b’log did, dammit. It put online all twelve of the ‘offensive’ pictures of the bearded
one whose followers would kill or convert every one of us, turning the world into a Muslim playground.

Simply do a search in the space to the left. Type in ‘Danish Cartoons’ and get your kicks with the prophet’s pretty pix.

BOSTON'S BIG DIG
and the
BOMBAY BOMBINGS

There is a major difference between the destruction taking place in a newly constructed Boston highway tunnel and the horrific slaughter of dozens of subway riders in Bombay, India.

In Bombay the killing was done by terrorists, Kashmiri separatists most likely, another branch of our peaceful Muslim neighbors who have been in a state of de facto war with Hundu India since the 1940's.

While the collapse of a section of tunnel in Beantown, part of a massive public works project known locally as 'The Big Dig', might indicate that it has been business as usual during the fifteen years of this project....a construction boondoggle marked by a cost overrun of a mere seven hundred per cent. The two billion buck original estimate has risen to fourteen, all federally funded, which has brought nothing but joy to Bay Staters from Senators Kennedy and Kerry all the way down to the crooked construction bosses, union officials, and makers of substandard steel and concrete.

Business as usual in the Bay State. One of the scandals during my days up there was the revellation that Massachusetts roads were built with only a fraction of the base and substructure that was common to all other New England states....and at a much higher cost. Yep, that's the way we did things in Massachusetts. Apparently they are still at it. Potholes are more common on the Mass Turnpike than on that other great piece of modern American roadway engineerin, the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Of course the fourteen billion has done wonders for the state's economy. It proves the old Reagan 'Trickle Down' theory....money trickles down to the peasant on the street after the politician, the union boss, the cop on the beat, the safety inspector and their drivers gets his little piece of the big action.

Bostonians are very happy that the rest of us are funding what is purely a local boondoggle

Sometimes it's easier to deal with terorists...at least you can kill those bastards on the spot. Politicians and crooked inspectors rarely go to jail.

Taxpayer, be screwed!.

HERMAN CAIN IN FOR NEAL BOORTZ
DIVERSITY vs MULTICULTURALISM

Listening to Herman Cain as I type.

Herman Cain, African American businessman, successful, up-by-the-bootstraps background, Republican, conservative. Just missed the GOP nod two years ago in a run at the U.S. Senate.

Nothing scares my liberal friends more than a conservative, Black success story who didn't rely on the government to get him where he is.

If the truth be known, reliance on government at any level to run interference is most often the kiss of death.

Cain is discussing American 'DIVERSITY', comparing it to European-style 'MULTICULTURALISM' which has allowed the cities of that continent to be people by unassimilated, hate-filled Muslims who want nothing more than to change that culture into some version of their own.

The last gap of the crusades,? Maybe.

The end of Western Civilization? Possibly.

If it is still Monday Morning where you are, try to tune in. I will have something to say on the subject later today.

FROM TOWN HALL TWO COLUMNS
ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT FRONT

For those of you who are rightly concerned with the attacks on our rights as guaranteed by the Second Amendment, TOWN HALL has two very different columns on the subject today:

1. MIKE ADAMS has a wonderfully tongue in cheek piece called HOW TO BUY THE RIGHT REVOLVER.

2. CAM EDWARDS offers up a chilling column about the ongoing attempt to destroy Americans' Constitutional rights by international treaty in WE SURVIVED....FOR NOW.

You can access any Town Hall contributor by going to the web site and searching for the writer's name.

WHILE HIZZONER'S AWAY.....

With C. Jack Ellis busy about Macon City business deep within sub-Sahara Africa, city hall has been a more relaxed, friendlier place for the past week or so.

It's pretty evident the second we walk through the front door.

Not gone, but certainly less is the antagonism between C. Jack's personal staff of fourteen and the Gang of Fifteen (or thirteen by current count) that is the Macon City Council.

On a normal day, with Ellis holding down his newly fortified corner office, there is a plethora of overt and covert activity between the two opposing bunkers that no comprise the first floor of City Hall.Right now, with Jack away, unable to feed the flames of his personal animosity toward the Council, it is almost a pleasant place to pay a visit.

We can only hope that the level of hate will subside once C. Jack has left office.

And remember, there is a grand jury, a Federal Grand Jury, working secretely in the background.

CHOCOHOLIC UPDATE

Thank god (or somebody important) for bright, astute readers.

With the under-educated, anti-intellectual, and non-verbal polluting classroom space, political paerties, offices, the blogosphere, and the media, it is a delight to receive a well-written document that comes directly to the point and does not waste time with political correctness.

Some of my enthusiasm is buoyed up by my boundless enthusiasm for dark, semi-sweet, fat and calorie laden CHOCOLATE.

Long is the spirit and enthusiasm, but the weakness of the flesh is tempered by a nasty little disease called daibetes...so yours truly treads softly where these matters are

Last night I told you about an email from a reader who had important information about the opening of a gourmet chocolate shop soon to open on Macon's Second Street.

Amy sent in more information overnight. Please read: >>>>>>>That said, I talked to Scott, the chef, who our group ran into last night at Acapulco's and he said that he was trying to come up with some stuff for people trying to lose weight or diabetics. So, I'm really excited.

Since getting your e-mail, I looked in my purse, because I got Scott's card (had some to drink at Acapulco's and not sure I kept it). he guy's name is Scott Keirnan and the place is at 314 2nd St. - xocolatlgourmet.com<<<<<

I ran the URL and found the site 'under construction'. Have patience.

So, Scott Keirnan, let us know when you will be open and we shall put out another plug for your business. Always good to see the exciting, the innovative, and the high end come into Macon's downtown.

Thanks for the heads up, Amy.

Ciao

FROM THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER
SKINHEADS AND NAZIS INFILTRATING AMERICAN ARMED FORCES

One of the most frightening articles I have read in some time claims there is solid evidence of widespread infiltration into the American Armed Forces (all branches) by American Nazis and Skinheads hoping to get the best and most up=to-date-training in weapons and explosives.

According to the article appearing first on the SPLC WEBSITE on July 7th. and reprinted with changes in THE NEW YORK TIMES, certain ultra right wing publications are urging their younger readers to join the services so that they may be more prepared to fight in the upcoming, inevitable 'Race War'. Such a war is an item of faith among certain of these lowlife organizations.

At one point the article claimss: Department of Defense investigators estimate thousands of soldiers in the Army alone are involved in extremist or gang activity. "We've got Aryan Nations graffiti in Baghdad," said one investigator. "That's a problem."

It goes on to say, "Southern Poverty Law Center President Richard Cohen urged Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding racist extremism among members of the U.S. military.

Please check out the article for yourselves. It is short and very much to the point.

From this perspective, it's downright frightening.

A CHOCOHOLIC'S DREAM COMES TO DOWNTOWN MACON

Got a great letter this evening from a gal named Amy Bell who painted a wonderful word picture about the opening of a new and trendy shop devoted to....CHOCOLATE....opening on Second Street.

Amy writes: Anyway, last night at First Night, we got to get into the new gourmet hocolate shop that's opening on 2nd street. I thought that might be a cool feature item. The guy who is running it -Scott - is working or has worked at Idle Hour as a chef and is selling all kinds of chocolates. I felt like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory - we got to go back in the back and see the mixers and stuff. I'm a huge chocolate fan

This sounds like a winner for any of us addicted to the dark, sweet stuff. I plan to get down there just as soon as I can....and urge you all to do so....The sincerity and enthusiasm of Amy's recommendation can't be avoided.

Shades of Willie Wonka!!!

AN IMPORTANT THOUGHT ON THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION

"That's the argument of flexibility and it goes something like this: The Constitution is over 200 years old and societies change. It has to change with society, like a living organism, or it will become brittle and break. But you would have to be an idiot to believe that. The Constitution is not a living organism, it is a legal document. It says something and doesn't say other

A CHALLENGE TO GEORGIA'S VOTER I.D. LAW

Ex governor Roy Barns will be in court later today arguing against the current law that madates state proffered, photo, voter identifications which can be a driver's license, Military I.D., or a free I.D. card available in each of our 159 counties.

Barns will argue that the new law is unfair to THE ELDERLY, PEOPLE OF LOW INCOME, AND MINORITIES. The suit hopes to impose a temporary injunction on enforcement based on constitutional grounds.

Nonsense...horsehocky!! Take me as a perfect example: Senior Citizen, well over 65, who draws Social Security, and is a member of a minority (25% Polish, a true minority in Deep Dixie.)

I am for the law as it stands...it can go far in eliminating voter fraud, which, here in Georgia, has tended to favor the Party of the Mythic Jackass.

THIS ALMOST SLIPPED BY ME
FIRST FRIDAY

Unlike Luke, who loves First Friday in Downtown Macon, I'm not a big fan, personally.

But that's more of a function of advancing age and the aches and pains that come with the territory. I have long been a supporter of Macon's inner city and weep over what I see as it's long drawn out death throes.

Anyway, tonight Cherry Street will be awash with party and good times. Politicians running for office should make a point of being on hand to press the flesh and kiss babies.

I have no patience with babies....which is why I could never run for office.

HOW NOT TO WRITE A NEWS STORY
by
ARIANNA HUFF 'n' PUFFINGTON

I read Huffington's daily b'log probably two or three times a week. It serves as a good sorce for a predictable kind of unthinking, knee-jerk, brainwashed liberalism in the extreme.

Noted for her vague and fuzzy-feeling rhetoric, she outdid herself this morning when she began an article as follows:

One of South Korea's largest newspapers, citing an unidentified official, reported Thursday that North Korea has three or four more missiles on the launch pad.

This is journalism at its vaguest. The rest of the article doesn't do much else to tighten the specifics of source and identification, or to add an iota to the sum total of our knowledgeour knowledge.

Be careful what you read.

Poor Arianna!!

NO HARD TIME FOR KEN LAY

Ken Lay, former CEO of ENRON is dead.

Lay was due to be sentenced to jail after being found guilty by a jury of his peers for deliberately running a shell game with the once gigantic corporation.

All over the blogosphere well-meaning folks are thrilling to the prospect of Ken Lay before the Almighty already judged and on the fast track to hell.

Sorry. Ken Lay is dead. That's the end of him. Hell is a figment of Man's imagination....a necessary invention in the good old days because tiny mortal minds needed to believe that those who wrong them suffer in some afterlife.

Hell is the stuff of fairy tales, stories told to children to keep them in line.

Pure fiction. Lay is dead and he's not facing anything except worms and decay.

A-CAIR CHALLENGES CAIR TO A DEBATE

Here is an email that will warm the cockles of the most cynical liberal heart. It comes directly from Andrew Whitehead, who is a monumental thorn in the siade of the CAIR organization:

>>>>>>This is an open letter to Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR spokesperson:

Mr. Hooper,

Since the settling of the lawsuit that your organization filed against me, you have been telling people that I paid CAIR to drop the lawsuit.

Now, your statements have brought my reputation into dispute and I'd like the opportunity to set the record straight.

I am publicly inviting you to debate me on the lawsuit, or any other subject involving your Islamic terrorist-supporting organization that you'd care to discuss.

Just me against you, or any other member(s) of your radical Islamist hate group you’d care to bring with you.

If you're afraid, say so, I understand.

NEO-NAZIS AT IT AGAIN

And we don't mean the ignorant, undereducated, hate-mongering morons we associate with Skinheads and the KKK in this country.

No...these are the real deal. Neo-Nazis in der Vaterland, the good old, Hitler loving, Deutschland uber alles variety, home grown descendants of the good people who committed atrocities untold during the halcyon days of the Third Reicht.

To distinguish them from modern, American 'Neocons'

And what did our little Neo's do? Why they held a book burning, after pre-empting a pre-christian. midsummer, traditional peasant festival in Saxony.

And what book did the imbecils burn? Well, THE DIARY OF ANN FRANK, that dangerous legacy of a Jewish family slaughtered by the 'real' Nazis of six decades ago.

Wonder if the Hitler mustache will nake a comeback. It's enough to burn through the Leder of your Hosen.

AMBUSH
by THE MACON TELEGRAPH

This is for Maconites only. The rest of you can move on to another article or scratch your behind or something else useful.

CAN YOU ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS?:

1. What is Macon's millege rate?

2. Who is macon's Public Works Director?

3. You see a stop sign down on a city street and want to have it fixed. Which city department handles street signs?

4. What City Council committee oversees spending and changes to the city budget?

5. How many sworn police officer positions (positions budgeted but not necessarily filled) does the city have?

6. How many City Council members does it take to overturn a mayoral veto?

(You will find the answers at the end of this article)

Kind of hard, wasn't it? I only got four right....67 per cent....enough to pass a graduation test, but not very good.

STIRRING THE OLD POT
RE: TORT REFORM

We published a couple of weeks back an opinion piece about the fact that the state government's highly touted 'Tort Reform' legislation had done nothing to bring down the soaring cost of medical insurance in the peach state.

In fact, putting caps, it was reasoned, on malpractice suits only made things worse.

Click on MORE to view an exchange between Allison Wall, executive director of GEORGIA WATCH and Dr. Frank Kelly, President of the Bibb County Medial Society. The original was published in the Telegraph. Itis reprinted here with Ms. Wall's permission.

We have a tendency, here in Georgia, in both local and state government to take a simplistic kind of 'one size fits all' approach to complicated issues. The General Assembly certainly did us no favors in this matter any more than it did on treating all 'sex-offenders' alike, from the slimeball stalker and preditor of little children to the poor bastard who takes a wizz in the woods and gets thrown in the slammer for 'exposing himself'.

Let's make sure that when we elect men and women in the general assembly they have at least a rudimentary brain stem or ganglion in their heads.

Read on. Macduff.....

AN ESSAY ON MATERIALISM
by DEAN C BRUNEL

As a devout atheist, religion remains a favorite topic with me. As a student and later as a teacher I was much involved with the bible....both testaments....as literature (much of it pretty good), as a source for historical studies (too much of it piss poor), and as inspiration (for the other guy, of course.)

Here in the buckle of the Bible Belt, we frequently run into such concepts, one hundred per cent believed, as 'the inerrancy of the Bible;, and the faith-based notion that the world was created in a six day time frame by a god who made man 'in his own image' along the way.

Poor god. If he truly created us in his own image, he must be a sorry lot.

Received a magnificent essay today which I have asked for and been given permission to publish it on this b'log. It is called an ESSAY ON MATERIALISM and should, as Neal Boortz loves to say, 'stir a little puddin'.'

Read it, if you dare....but don't skim it, take your time. Maybe read it over more than once.

THEN...get off your gluteus maximus and send me an email about what you think....I will pass it along to the author.

Who happens to be, Mr. Dean C. Brunel...one of the finest Legal minds the Bay State has ever produced, and my brother.

A POINT OF CLARIFICATION
SONNY PERDUE FOR GOVERNOR
ENDORSEMENT

A quick point of clarification.

About any endorsements coming from this website. Judging from the number of emails, I sisn’t make myself very clear when I endorsed Casey Cagle for Lieutenant Governor.

They all said about the same thing…roughly, “Well, between Cathy Cox and Mark Taylor whom would you pick?”

Sorry, that’s just the point of my endorsements. I only throw this b’log’s support to those candidates for whom I (or Luke) will actually vote for in November.

So in the case of ‘The Big Guy’ vs ‘The Little Woman’, their race, while important to many, is a non-issue around here, since the winner of this month’s Democrat primary won’t receive my vote anyway. Should Governor Perdue lose the GOP primary, then it becomes a new ball game and yours truly will have to recalibrate his thinking.

So here goes……THIS BLOG ENDORSES SONNY PERDUE FOR A SECOND TERM AS GOVERNOR.

Why? Simple answer, short and sweet….he has done a pretty good job during his tenure in office and should have a chance to continue to work out his agenda.

Has he made mistakes? Probably. But overall he has turned in a solid performance.

I have lived in Georgia for thirty years now. The state has been blessed by a succession of excellent governors during that time. Take it from somebody who has lived in far flung places like New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Maine….we got it good, folks.

Please vote for Sonny Perdue.

And yes, during the next few days we shall float some other endorsements.

SCREAMS THE HEADLINE
VULTURES LOOM OVER SHUTTLE

I am not a superstitious person, but were I an astronaut and I saw vultures circling around the 'space' shuttle as it sat on the ground, I would find a way to opt out of the curent mission.

JULY THE FOURTH
and the
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
Part One

I’m not going to be an old fart about this subject.

Like most people over sixty I sometimes dwell on what I see as America in decline. Hell, the whole world. The end of Western Civilization which has endured and morphed and grown since the Pyramids were shiny and new and gleamed in the desert’s morning light.

One of the things that tends to stick in an oldster’s craw is the irreverence young people seem to take about some of our venerable traditions. We see it on holidays often. “They just don’t treat (Christmas), (Easter), (Thanksgiving), (Veterans’ Day) with the respect they (it) deserve. And it is thus with July Fourth….the fourth of July….America’s ‘Independence Day’.

MACON SAYS GOOD-BYE TO
JOHNNY JENKINS

The Glorious Hope Baptist Church was packed as friends and fellow musicians said adios to one of this city's all time greats, Johnny Jenkins.

Eulogy and rememberence were fondly delivered by Eddie Kirkland and Hemp Swain.

Our own Johnny On The Spot, Newt Collier, Macon's very own Everyman, reported that sadly and unexpectedly he saw no sign of anybody from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the family of the late Otis Redding, the Waldens, nor representative of the municipal government.

Must be that musicians departed are, like prophets, without honour in their own.country..

FIRST POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT
CASEY CAGLE FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF GEORGIA

I shall be making a few political endorsements between now and the Georgia Primary, barely two weeks away.

The rules are simple. I will only endorse a candidate I plan to vote for. So, for instance, since I intend to cast a ballot for our sitting governor, Sonny Perdue, I will not endorse either Democrat candidtate, the Big Guy or the Little Woman

The reasons for endorsing CASEY CAGLE are two: First, he has a solid record in the Georgia State Assembly; SECOND, Ralph Reid has been for many years too much a part of the Christian Right to be trusted by those of us who fear the kind of twisted legislation and moralistic social stricture conservative Christians tend to bring to elected office.

I do not intend to spend long paragraphs explaining these views any further.
