ALL THINGS POLITICAL
AIN'T WE GOT FUN?
AIN'T WE GOT FUN?
There is portion of this essay which did not appear in the last ELEVENTH HOUR. It had to be cut due to space constraints. It is hard-hitting, but instructive, I think. The missing portions are the underlined portions below.
THE ELECTION IS LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY and we would like to make a few suggestions to our loyal reader/voters. In no way shall we attempt to cover all, or even most political contests…national, state, or local. Here are just a few thoughts.
1. For President of the United States: George Bush, Incumbent. We wrote in some detail about this a few weeks ago (ELEVENTH HOUR, 09/15/04). To us the choice is simple. Our nation is at war. We must kill our enemies before they kill us (Yes, that isn’t very PC or cheek-turning, is it? Just a little dose of reality). A former president, a Democrat, summed it up when Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “DON’T CHANGE HORSES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREAM.” The Macon Telegraph’s four person Editorial Board consisting of Messrs. Richardson and Dodson, as well as Mmes. Stinson and Enyart has endorsed John Kerry as well most other democrats and candidates with a relatively liberal point of view. No big surprise there.
2. In the United States Senate Race between Johnny Isakson(R) and Denise Majette (D), our wholehearted support goes to Allen Buckley(L). We are unhappy with Isakson’s overly-good-old boy approach to politics which seems more glad-hand than substance. Ms Majette should have stayed in the House of Representatives and gained experience there. We wonder whether the truth behind her lackluster bid for the Senate will ever come out. Mr. Buckley as a Libertarian stands for less government interference in the lives of people at a time when the octopus of Enormous Government is swallowing us wholesale.
3. It the bitter race between Republican Calder Clay and incumbent Jim Marshall for 8th District House of Representatives, a race filled with far too much invective, we really don’t like anybody very much. Frankly, my dears, I don’t give a damn. Marshall has been a strong supporter of Robins Air Base, which could prove a real plus should some obscene future version of the U.S. Government decide to cut back on military preparedness once again. Sure, the streets of heaven’s scene will be guarded by the blue helmets and empty rifles of the United Nations. Right?
4. Finally, for Bibb County Commissioner, we must recommend strongly Charles Bishop over Lance Randall on the basis of his long experience in Government and law enforcement. While Mr. Randall is an intelligent, candidate, attractive in many ways, we feel his long association with our less-than-effective Chamber of Commerce is more of a detriment than a help to his candidacy. He might consider beginning his political career just a little lower on the totem poll. Perhaps the Telegraph’s Editorial board is influenced more by the Randall family name than the merits of the candidate.
