OBAMA, GAY RIGHTS, and the NOVEMBER ELECTION

Since Newsweek’s depiction of Barack Obama as America’s ‘first gay president’, talk radio has become inundated, as expected, with the subject(ad nauseam.

My readers are generally aware of my own views on the several gay/straight issues. I often answer a virulent attack from the religious right with a simple statement, “Sir (or Madame) gay folks are as free to practice their sexuality as you are your religion in the privacy of the home, just don’t try to cram it down my throat.”

I do not believe in anything called ‘gay rights’; but I am all for ‘human rights’, pretty much the same for everybody no matter what their race, color, religion, sexual orientation, or the shape of their heads. Human is human; rights are rights.

Too far have we gone in giving special attention to the eternally victimized. Murder is murder. To add a hate crime count to the charge is simply one more example of political correctness gone amok.

It looks like we shall have a choice in November between ‘Half-Mitt’ Romney and the incumbent. At this point I shall support the former, even though he is ‘Obama-Light’. Cannot bring myself to vote for a man I consider to be an old-line Communist albeit in modern dress. So, as I did in 2008, I shall enter the Diebold voting desk and hit the touch screen holding my nose, hoping that things will settle down without violent revolution or a plunge into the dark abyss of socialism.

Revolution ain’t necessarily a bad thing either.

It’s almost gun show time in Middle Georgia. Matt Eastman is bringing his massive production to the Agricenter in Perry on April 28-29. The last time we had a show in Perry was way back in November. And it was a beauty.
Over the past couple of years I have had the good luck of attending Eastman shows pretty much all over the Peach State. There has been a big change over the last decade or so, a change in who visits said events. Where once an arena would be filled with a few somewhat dour and largely silent denizens from our section of Deep Dixie, now they have turned into truly family affairs. Our venues here abouts are witnessing the same phenomenon.
Wives and kids now accompany Daddy…..sometimes husbands and kids accompany mommy. In any event the result is the same: gunshows are for family fun and entertainment. Eight bucks a day for adults (children under twelve get in free) is all you need for a full day of pure joy for the outdoors-persons among us. Want to take a lunch break? The Agricenter offers some pretty good fare, or, in the spirit of adventure, get your hands stamped by one of the Eastman crew and head out to a local restaurant for a family lunch. You will have lots of time to return, show your stamped hand at the entrance, and pick up where you left off.
Daddy can be a real hero at a gun show. You will be bombarded with questions from your ankle biters. Don’t disappoint the sprouts. Sho them just how much you know about shooting and hunting and all the outdoor sports. See you there.

TAKE YOUR DAUGHTER TO THE RANGE DAY

Most of you know that I am a proud member of an outfit called The Marion Road Gun Club here in Bibb County( www.marionroad.com )and have been for more than thirty-five years.
The Club gives me an outlet to work on behalf of that all important SECOND AMENDMENT of the United States Constitution in several meaningful ways. One of those is that I get an great deal of opportunity to interact with the public at gun shows, meetings, and special events open to the general public. ‘General Public’ means, of course, pro and anti gun control folks as well as the vast number of undecides and don’t-give-a-damns in the middle.
At our regular monthly meeting this week we voted to join in a new, nationally recognized event known as “Take Your Daughter To The Range Day” (http://nationaltakeyourdaughtertotherangeday.com ). And so, on June 9th upcoming the MRGC will open its gates to the public inviting area residents to bring their daughters (and sons) to our facilities to learn something about shoot and, of course, gun safety.
Details will be forthcoming in the near futurem but I promise you it will be a great day for families and for the future of The Second Amendment,

COVERING UP FAST & FURIOUS WITH THE HELP OF OUR GOOD FRIENDS IN THE MAIN STREAM MEDIA

“Then, of course, there was the backlash from the extreme left once Fast and Furious broke. Mother Jones called it “one of the right’s latest conspiracy theories”; Talking Points Memo mocked the claim that the Obama administration had designed Fast and Furious as a gambit to outflank Second Amendment advocates “outlandish.” Jon Stewart said such theories were “f—— crazy.” Rachel Maddow stated that it was all “the insane paranoid message from the NRA.” Her MSNBC colleague Chris Matthews said the theories sprang from a “strain of the crazy far right.” And, of course, David Brock’s Media Matters, which was coordinating regularly with the Obama administration, said it was all ‘hysterical rhetoric.
We have heard so much about the FAST & FURIOUS debacle that some of our pro gun friends are experiencing a dangerous level of satiation that leads to sheer ennui. For some it becomes all too familiar.
But here is a new slant, an article that with impeccable documentation exposes a relatively new side of the scandal, i.e. the level of complicity offered by the MSM (Main Stream Media) from the git go designed to cover the collective glutei maximi of Eric Holder, the Obama Administration, and the entire anti-gun crowd and its unconstitutional agenda

It is more of a review, if anything, a review of a recent book by Katie Pavlich titled, aptly enough, FAST and FURIOUS. Like many who distrust the growing power of the central imperial American government, I try to minimize my footprint somewhat, but not to the extent that many similarly inclined souls do going entirely off the grid. I do not use plastic in transactions (neither credit nor debit cards): cash still buys groceries, cat food, and ammunition), I do not own a car or have a driver’s license. My phone is a simple land line that sits atop a desk and can record messages from those who would welcome a reply. It was bugged a few years back, but that’s another story. Debugging is relatively easy.
This morning I read one hell of an article that was republished on Lew Rockwell’s Libertarian newsletter that addressed the question of the police being able to track our every move via the GPS device in our cell phones, phones carried daily by more than eighty-five percent of the population. Even the poorest among us can now own cells thanks to the largess of the federal government which, apparently, equates ownership of a cell equivalent to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Tracking ones every move, whether he is suspected of criminal activity, does not need any kind of a search warrant or permission from a court.

The first clue I had happened when I opened my front door and found a young police officer holding a flashlight as I exited clinging on to an almost new 1911 in .45 ACP caliber. I reversed the weapon before the kid noticed its presence. ”Are you Donald Brunel,” he asked, finally staring at the pistol whose matte black finish reflected no appreciable light.
“I am and I apologize for the self-defense mode, but we cannot be too careful at this hour of the night.
“You have been reported as a missing person. I thought I would find your door kicked in and you lying dead or seriously injured inside.”
And so on went the brief conversation. It appears that friends and relatives had been unable to reach me by phone all day long. So one brave soul notified the dispatch number if our MPD.
And no wonder. Just before the arrival of the young officer I had been wondering about the lack of calls to my usually over-active land line. It had rung not once since early morning. I picked up the receiver and poured a few drops of yellow liquid onto the desk top. It appeared that one of my precious cats had aimed a leak directly into the electronics of my phone. The only noise coming through the head piece was a crackling sound. No voice could break through the static.
Then, late this afternoon, another mignon of the law, this time a deputy sheriff knocked. I was ready this time….knew the guy….and put down my lethal little friend before opening the portal.
More of the same, I was a missing person. Explanation given and accepted. Bye for now.
Two days without a phone has caused not a little consternation except right here. It proved to be a silent blessing not experienced since my last camping trip into the deep woods.
New phone in place and charging. Maybe I won’t tell anybody for a few days, or weeks, or…….

THE BEST OF THE BEST

It’s been a long, dry spell since Middle Georgia has been blessed by one of Matt Eastman’s massive gun shows.

The wait is about over. This coming weekend, March 3-4th. An Eastman offering will descend on the Macon Centreplex just in time to whet the appetite of every outdoor enthusiast in the area.

Show hours are 9:00 5:00 Saturday, 10:00 to 5:00 Sunday. Admission is a mere eight bucks for adults; children under twelve enter free. Matt’s shows have broad appeal not only for the weekend target shooter like myself, but also the man, woman, or child who enjoys hunting, trapping, camping, or simply time spent in the forest and fields of our great American outdoors.

In recent years, it is observed, more and more are Eastman Gun Shows becoming true family affairs. There is no better way to spend a long, relaxed Saturday or Sunday with the kids answering their many questions, teaching them some of the finer points of hunting gear, and explaining the intricacies of hundreds of breeds of rifles, pistols, and shotguns.

So come on down. And be sure to drop by the Marion Road Gun Club display where you can learn not only about our organization, but all about our upcoming weekend (March 17-18) when we shall hold our first ever APPLESEED SHOOT.
